  1. No offense, but who in their right mind would let a player miss a game for a hockey game? --- Jay Horwitz
  2. Cameron-for-Nady: Hugely unpopular trade at the time the Mets made it.
  3. That .243 / .341 / .324 // .665 line as a stater should obviate the sarcastic headline, no. If he was a regular starter, I imagine that Megdal would be tempted to campaign for his benching. As it is, the outfield starting situation looks like this: Duda: 29 games Byrd: 20 Valdespin: 12 Baxter: 11 Cowgill: 10 Lagares: 6 Brown: 3 Nieuwenhuis: 3 That tells me that the situation is still being sorted out. This time tomorrow, Baxter could be one of the three team leaders in outfield starts. His campaign would have been more impressive if launched three weeks ago.
  4. I'm in no hurry to dump Valdespin for Satin.
  5. The Angels and Astros are playing a combined .318 ball, though the Angels have the fifth highest payroll and the Astros easily the lowest (no matter how hard Miami tried). I think such a matchup leads to a lot of folks not having their heads in the game.

  7. Ankiel was hitting .194 / .231 / .484 // .715. Not good, but more or less what you'd expect out of him, and in fact, his best performance in a few years.

  9. Lucie obviously heard about Bingo getting no-hit tonight and decided to make up for it, pounding out 17 runs on 16 hits in their 17-1 victory over Palm Beach. Noah Snydergaaaaaard was brilliant, going seven innings and yielding only one run on four hits, walking one and striking out seven. The offense was led by... well, everybody, but shortstop Matt Reynolds had two doubles, a triple and five RBIs. Celebrate that one, Matt.
  10. Bingo particularly blue tonight, no hit by Harrisburg Senators Paul Demny and Ian Krol. They did manage to score one on a walk, an error, and a double-play groundout, but went down 6-1 to the AA Nationals.
  11. Zvon wrote: I get it now. Baxter only steps up when everything is on the line! Like.
  12. I smell a pie in the oven.
  13. Mets like to run the bases too.
  14. Grilli is gonna look silli.
  15. Fuck it, John Stearns. I've got a new 12.
  16. Plate appearance of the night here.
  17. That was Tejada being better than average.
  18. Let's not run here. I don't like Martin, but I respect his arm.
  19. Not to look a gift RBI in the mouth, but Davis' butt still seemed to fly out there.
  20. "My name is Justin Turner. Specialty: Gettin' on base and cream pies."
  21. Not particularly hard-hit hits for the Bucs. Double play finishes them here.
  22. Not that big a surprise. Check out Buckles hitting it hard the other way.
  23. This Pitty team likes to run the bases.
  24. They could have gone all righthanded by putting Recker at first and Turner at second. The Buccos, interestingly enough, end up quite the opposite, with an all-righthanded bench.
  25. Rick Ankiel graduated from Port St. Lucie High, so I imagine he'll get a shot with the Mets before all is done. I'm not sure that this is the day, though. As noted, sort of redundant with what they have now.
