  1. I bet Fman was in Intercourse during the blackout too.
  2. Holy crap on that GiDP. I thought he'd throw a curve there, but he came after the guy.
  3. I'm glad the top of Murphy's glove is stickier tonight.
  4. A fat-faced Dodger lefty ace coming from 3/4 brings me back to 1981.
  5. I think it's true that city needs to provide the services they've neglected to provide the neighborhood, and at the same time, enforce municipal codes against local businesses regarding violations that they've looked the other way on. That's true whether the city's process of grabbing the land and flipping it to the Wilpons or whoever goes through or not. And that's not engineering a neighborhood.
  6. Can we please get a more high-res Nancy card?
  7. Ceetar wrote: Yes, but you don't get a Wrigleyville, at least these days, without some attempt at it. I don't believe it's true that that attractive dynamic neighborhoods can no longer occur organically, and must be engineered by the government. And if it is true, I'd like to know where I can sign up to make it not true.
  8. Going to the game alone, with ringside seats, basking in Johnny-come-lately reflected glory, looking for all the world like Billy Crystal west. But you know, he's back with his wife, and loves animals, and is noticeably old, so I shouldn't be bringing the hammer down on him, but a strange amount of bitter antipathy bubbled out of me last night and some of it landed on him.

Yeah, but I'm sticking with the notion that his dee is closer to Bourn than to Duda, and I believe, if they want to bring him back, and bring him back as an outfielder, that any deficiencies in his outfielding can be ameliorated at least in part by a commitment to the position and a little overtime with Tom Goodwin or Gary Pettis or Mookie Wilson or whoever. The guy nearly went splat yesterday going after a ball five or six rows into foul territory. (The walls at Dodger Stadium are a workplace hazard that really needs to be fixed.)
  10. Michael Bourn, without the commitment.
  11. And Danny DeVito, last night, you made the list.
  12. I'm not sure what you're referring to, but as much as I complain about Young's positioning, after seeing Duda's work out there for the last several years, Young looks like some genetically created outfielder spawned from the DNA of Roberto Clemente and Rudolf Nureyev. You kill yourself looking for something akin to "the solution." Nobody's marrying the guy. Better to look for improvements and opportunities, and Young has fit that bill just fine, even as his strike three hack in the ninth last night was fugly.

  14. We chase Nolasco early, and we're feasting on the back end of the bullpen for a good chunk of the series. We have a deeper bench, we're making some deadly counter-moves, like sending Brown (or Duda!) up for Quintanilla with two men on in the eighth. We have a deeper bench and a little more wa and a little less ego massaging, we're maybe sending Satin or Brown up for Davis when they send in a ridiculous junkballing lefty against him. Feels like the first time in a month Ike's gone down chasing that low breaking pitch like he did the whole first half. Ah, what's the use? What's the use?
  15. We shoulda be so on top of this game. Let's not go quietly. I too am feeling irrational antipathy for the Dodgers.
  16. Justin Turner, compared to Dustin Pedroia by Vin Scully. I'm suddenly not convinced.
  17. See, great time for a pinch-hitter. But I'm not thinking of Justin Turner. Where's Brownie?
  18. This guy getting us with junque.
  19. Boo, Dodgers, Boo.
  20. Shoulda scored at least 10 that inning.
  21. Even Scully thinks so.
  22. Bad call on Laggy, man.
  23. Do that, McHugh.
  24. OK, finally knocked this guy out. Pour it on, top o' the lineup. A-Team producer in the game.
  25. Well, that was an inning we shall not speak of.
