  1. This is Wheeler's third time out against the Braves. He made his debut in Atlanta and they're the only team that has seen him more than once. The Mets won both of those previous starts, 6-1 in the debut, with Wheels going six shoutout (but wild) innings, and 7-4 on July 25, with Wheeler giving up long homers to Uggla and Freeman. Uggla's on ice right now, but Freeman seems like the only Brave who has been a consistent threat to the Mets in reacent years. (To a lesser extent, McCann, I think.) Wheeler's page is sponsored by "Howard Megdal, Writer-At-Large, Capital New York."
  2. It was a lucky shirt! They probably wrote that into the screenplay to keep him dressed as production continued. So, did you like?
  3. It's a little tough to compare starters with relievers, pitches with guys on bases with pitches with the bases empty. Good research needs good controls. I haven't clicked and read deeply. Maybe they do have controls.
  4. Nope. Tweets are saying Recker going down. BOOOOO!!! He's out-hitting d-Arnaud by 196 points. This is all about appeasing the half-Filipino lobby!!! BOOOOO!!! Mets' 87% less dreamy!
  5. So, it seems like the best d'Cision is to send him down until September, right?
  6. I have to give the forum credit. The CPF had Braun's number years ago.
  7. Brown's gonna have at least seven total bases today. Calling it.
  8. Obsessing over pitchers getting credited with wins, or a team winning specifically on the days he pitches on, always seems a waste of mental and emotional energy. Get guys playing well as often as they can and wins will come more frequently. If they do, why care who they're credited to?
  9. There are a lot of issues.
  10. The Mets have used 4.23 pitchers per game --- including the extra-inning affairs --- meaning 3.23 pitching changes. My guess would be that the majority of those would be between-innings changes. That's not the crux of it. In fact, the length of games, if I'm not mistaken, had been dropping for a while and seems to have gone up the past few years, even as offense (and therefore pitching changes) has cooled. That miserable game-that-won't-be-named featured at least one time when Mejia wouln't leave the dugout, and then, of course, his injury, after which a cold pitcher had to be brought in, and given as many warm-ups as he wanted.
  11. On the playing field or not, baseball and basketball get more than a few timeouts for the coaches to confab with their players --- including mandated "TV timeouts."
  12. Jason DeGrom's modest run of success of late, which has had him elevating his status from organizational filler to gen-u-ine prospect, continued today --- taking a perfecto into the sixth against Salt Lake, before surrendering a leadoff single. In the seventh, he gave a walk ad a double and got pulled because the Mets are getting a little shy about the workload of their young pitchers. Reliever John Church, wayward (and apparently prodigal) adoptee of mine, allowed both runners to score, but still, heckuva show. That's not just the PCL, but it's Salt Lake City. High desert --- 1,288 meters above the ocean. Thin air and dry air. Not a friendly place to pitch, but DeGrom will. not. be. slow'd. His final line (six innings, two hits, two ernies, two walks and three strikeouts) ended up pretty similar to that of the opposing starter(six innings, three hits, two ernies, three walks and three strikeouts). That opposing starter was erstwhile Long Island Duck Dontrelle Willis. But the 51s feasted on the bullpen and walked off the victors.
  13. So, if you really have any grounds to complain that your club asked your surgeon to deliberately botch your surgery, isn't that the kind of thing that should appear in a legal filing or an official criminal complaint rather than a bitch press conference?
  14. Doug Mientkiewicz, hothead.
  15. Have to go back to the Nieuwenhuis game for a game that was so flat despite the team being within striking distance the whole time.
  16. Somewhere, there's somebody, probably more than one somebody, who was brought to this game to convince them of how wonderful baseball is.
  17. Definitely a mixed-race indyvidual. You, D'Arnaud, Rob Schneider, and Lou Diamond-Phillips oughta tour together.
  18. Binghamton clinches tonight and is heading for the post-season for the first time since 2004, when Wright went .363 / .467 / .619 // 1.086. Guess Dykstra has to stay down now.
  19. The Pads are Thayer's third team, and he'll probably play for three or four more before he's done, but the Padres are defintiely the team a guy named Dale Thayer should play for. Don't know why.
  20. Dale Thayer is warming up for Than Diego.
  21. Ike woulda definitely been deader, then.
  22. Zvon wrote: I don't like that at all. And the RF threw a lollypop to the cutoff. Lets see, maybe d' is an RBI monster. The rightfielder played that clean. Ike woulda been deader than disco.
  23. Well, at least Flores could comfortably get himself to second on that hit.
  24. Volquez is weird. He's always moving --- twitching and stomping around the mound --- but takes his time actually toeing the rubber and throwing the ball. Big two-out hit for Ike.
  25. Not a good goldtending day for Davis.
