That's Glenn Davis, laughing about how phallic it is when the swoosh penetrates the loop in the Y.
  2. Gee must've leapfrogged a gaggle of Mets in the PotY standings. And the Brown card... wow!
  3. Girardi totally managing like his season/job is riding on this game.
  4. Two-run single by Sandoval puts the 51s up 3-2. Wally being Wally, immediately sends him and he steals second. Dustin Lawley hits one to the deepest part of the park, advancing Sandoval to third. Hoffman hits a rocket but right at the leftfielder. And we got to the bottom of the fourth up 3-2.
  5. Tovar ends the game. B-Mets down 2 games to zero. Lousy two hits for them all game.
  6. Forcepts walks. Alonzo Harris comes out to pinch run. Wilfredo Tovar at the paltevar.
  7. Mets down to the their last out, Forsythe up with a 3-0 count.
  8. Trenton up 2-1.
  9. Your outclassing of me is distressing. We go to the eighth.
  10. Sawx go up 5-2 and have the bags juiced as they chase Nova.
  11. Bingo locked into a 1-1 tie in Trenton in the bottom of the seventh. Darin Gorski has gone the distance for the B-Mets. DiamondFairies in attendance I can't stand doing this alone again.
  12. Big whiff of Ichiro with two in scoring position and the Sawx get out of it. Victorino leads off the next inning and homers to put the Bostons up 4-2. Best radio commercial: "Baseball's getting into the swing again here in Boston. And you know what that means --- stocking up on your favorite Little Debbie snack cakes!" "Getting into the swing"? It's September.
  13. Hard to say worst, but yeah, he was terribly uncomfortable and disappointing. I didn't think he had a future at all.
  14. This guy calling the game for Boston is great. He sounds like somebody you meet in a deli arguing about how to make potato salad.
  15. Today's actual Red Sox taking on the Gothams and up 2-0. Ivan Nova takes 82 pitches to get through three innings.
  16. But they further suggest that his accuracy is hardly unerring, so much as his play is as economical as it is aggressive, and you look at a play like this one, it's suggestive of the infielder who gets the ball away quick enough on a throw to first to allow the firstbaseman to adapt.
  17. For instance, we have a damned impressive disabled list.
  18. Check out that thread on Laggy's arm. We have the best of a lot of things, depending on how broadly or narrowly you define "things."
  19. It was probably a stupid name for the film, but that's the breaks.
  20. Or I got a second-hand report and misrepresented it.
  21. FanGraphs looks at Juan Lagares' work as a throwing outfielder, and comes to the conclusion that his stats are no illusion --- and in fact, his performance has been historically admirable. But close analysis points credit to neither his arm's power nor accuracy, both of which have been historically rated as "solid." Instead, they plotz over how he maximizes what he has, accentuating his throwing ability with his speed, aggressiveness, confidence, positioning. In summary, he uses an infielder's instincts and skills in the outfield. It's all fascinating and so sexified that your work porn filters are probably gonna block it.
  22. "Mets get a day off in Cleveland." Can't imagine that sentence has been typed a lot before this week. Rooting for Tampa, Boston, and Baltimore will be no problem ---- feels familiar. Hopefully opening up the taps on Detroit not only ups the Boston morale, but allows them to rest their best bats and bullpen arms and come at the Yankees fresh.
  23. Red Sox, stunningly, are up 18-4 on Detroit. Detroit's a great team, but if you can exploit their defense or get into their bullpen, they can be beat, or, if you're the Red Sox, CLOBBERED.
