  1. Sometimes I can't find a place to park, and I have to drive around the neighborhood a little. That can be tricky. #ADaywithHarvey

(I don't know if Rod ever tried it, but it was something you could convince someone who remembers him that he did). Later Dudian.
  3. I prefer "Rustic" as his analogical descriptive.
  4. The problem with designated-old-guy-pinch-hitters is that in this day of five-man benches, they're going to have to pack a glove. I wasn't hoping to see Abreu in the outfield twice in his first week. You can only wonder what Sandy is thinking when he spent the offseason enjoying the notion of a Chris Young/Juan Lagares/Curtis Granderson, perhaps with den Dekker available as a defensive sub for Grandy. Instead, they've got EY/Grandy/Abreu right to left. Not how it was drawn up, certainly.

  6. He'll almost have to, considering he's missing a chunk of the season.
  7. Wow, he really isn't the story.

Nimmo and Dykstra merely put up a baseline level of great yesterday.
  9. Yeah, Bingo didn't play, but Savannah made up for it by winning twice. St. Lucie was down 4-3 in the bottom of the eighth and threw up a 10-run inning. Nimmo: 2-2 with three more walks. Buy stock in this guy now. Likelihood of the organization sweeping two days in a row with that many games played: 0.09765625%
  10. That's a fightin' lede for sure.
  11. I would guess -- purely a guess -- that "tired of hearing about the '86 Mets" meant "it's time we create a new championship legacy" or something like that. I would bet my "Chocolate Strawberry" 12-inch on it. VERY stupid controversy. Thank God they won last night. Another suspect for the money quotes defending the honor for the 86-ers is the gay-bashing pitching-coach-with-a-chip-on-his-shoulder for a recent Mets opponent.
  12. That's a pretty good got-your-back-ing by the team. If Colon shuts out Puma or the media on his own, he looks soft and weak, and they can rip him for being a-scared instead of for his gut. Puma better get square soon, though. He can't do his job this way. ON the other hand, I'd bet he had little to do with the headline.
  13. Mark Simon reports that Cishek had face 17 lefties so far this year and allowed hits to exactly none of them. Until tonight.
  14. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I think if Salty had got on base in any other manner than a home run, he would have switched to Rice for the the next guy. Yeah, playing matchups with the bases empty is usually overkill (unless it's an All-Star homerun hitter up there). I guess it would have been right tonight, with hindsight, but generally, it's overkill.
  15. I've been thinking in my post-game tubbie and I got the impression that Terry and his coaches have put a LOT of thought into how they would go after Cishek. I mean, he not only had a pile of lefties lined up there, but at least three of them (Duda, Nieuwie, and Granderson) with a classic lefthanded loop swing that can go down and get the low pitch and negate the sink from the sidearming righty. Duda, Nieuwie, and Abreu all went the other way.
  16. Frayed Knot wrote: 8) Five straight LHBs against side-arming Cishek is certainly the way you want to do it. Only d'Arnaud that inning wasn't and that's another argument for him Sac-B-ing Yeah, credit to Terry on this one. He also bunted with the righthanded d'Arnie. I would have pinch-run Nieuewie for Duda (would I ever), but by not doing so, Terry avoided having the fake lefty (Young, Jr.) up there with the winning run on. He also dodged the prospect of scoring the tying run but having to going to extras with Young at second. Nieuwie really seems to have a lot of big hits in the ninth and later.
  17. Poppin' to the rhythm of the Curtis Gee Who needs a Farnie when we we're home, scot free? By the way, how huge a load is that off of Germen's back?
  18. Now NEIUWIE's shot I might have sent Omar on, but he seemed to stagger step around second. But trusting the next guy paid off.
  19. How about Teufel with the stones to send Duda on that one?
  20. Nieuwie to pinch-run?
  21. Muffiest inning ever.
  22. Now I feel like I should have done more thorough research on Salty and Jones.
  23. That was a pretty good pitch, but it was the same pitch as the one he wanted two pitches earlier, but this one had more plate, and Salt was waiting for it.
  24. Hard to predict anything like Rustiffic results, but it would be something if, like Rusty, a sudden Abreic appearance would cause the pitcher to change the way he's approaching the batter in front of him.
