  1. ZW does a quick, clean second after a difficult first.
  2. Oops, two quick beisrunners.
  3. Go-Go really jumps out of his shoes to swing.
  4. Apparently, Tulowitzki won't be arriving in time for the start of the game. 5. They're starting Overbay. That's a gift, but we need to unwrap it.
  6. He sure knew how to rock the bat-handle-in-the-crotch pose. Right hand on the barrel. Left elbow on the knee. Was it that standardized for everybody or just for him?
  7. Doubly so. But he wears a generic uniform in that Five-Hour Energy Drink Commercial. And he looks so mutated that I don't want to go near the stuff.
  8. I haven't got used to Bald Beltran. He creeps me out.
  9. A lot of people don't even think Griffey belongs at all, because he very humanly faded in his thirties, while his juicy colleagues thundered on. The juice era is a double-edged sword. You're damned either way. Unless you are Jeter.
  10. There's the redemptorist notion that recent trends are all about Jeter. That everybody is tarred by the era, except Jeter the Pure. Heaven is barred until he reopens the gates. If I may blaspheme by analogy a bit.
  11. But the rain. The soft rain. Johnson had no rain.
  12. batmagadanleadoff wrote: And while they're banning the rule on banning shifts before it even takes effect, I hope they ban the soccer offside rule as well. Mainly because I can't figure it out. This shift rule proposal isn't as dumb as you guys make it out to be. I think the main problem with the rule is that no one's used to it, and that baseball's been a shift as you please game for forever. If this rule had been in effect for a long while, no one would be giving it a second thought. That said, I don't think I'd like it, myself. I don't know. The soccer offsides rule has been in effect forever and I don't like that one either. Nor hockey for that matter. A prima donna wants to goal hang, let him. You can mark him closely or enjoy the fact that his team's defense is one man short. STRATEGY!
  13. Meanwhile he's got the staff in the back room running a "Truth About Jeter" campaign.
  14. Five pitchers have made 100 appearances for both the Mets and the Brewers. I've got K-Rod. Lockwood. Ummm... . Hey, a hit!
  15. Brews have the Mets outscouted and outgunned. Everything working for them.
  16. Who's the sleep-deprived 12-year-old?
  17. I'd put my money on Tejada being as smart as any other player on the team. Dillonji quite wild.
  18. Popup in short left. Back goes Wright. It looks like he's... OH! A diving catch with his bare hand! What a play by Wri... Wait a minute. It looks like the Padres are going to protest. Bud Black is saying Wright left his designated defensive position. I think Black might have a case here. The umps are putting on their headsets....
  19. Well, surely it's clear that's because one has options, and the other does not. Merging threads here.
  20. Chuck Knoblauch busted for allegedly beating up his ex-wife. His induction into the Twins Hall of Fame has been "cancelled" --- which is a notably different word than "suspended" or "delayed, pending the outcome of this matter."
  21. Zvon wrote: Ugh. I thought the big thing was getting Wilmer at bats? ... Shopping Flores maybe? Well, he's in the lineup tonight. Tejada has been hit by pitches twice in the last two games (including one to the head yesternight) and they've been playing him non-stop for a month without a backup on the roster.
  22. Surprised this wasn't done last night. Glad it was done.
  23. Wilmer uppage. Niewenhuis downage. We have a shortstop. Of sorts.
  24. Yes, I think they are averse to players playing terribly. And I think they are doubly averse to paying them $7.25 million (the prorated share of $12 million) to hit terribly. And triply averse to paying them $4 million for two months of dreadful production, whether or not they get a reliever. If the Mets want a reliever, I think they would just sign a reliever. Of all the things to bait the GM over, I wouldn't tout not signing Kendrys Morales. It hasn't turned out well for the Twins at all. He's a DH who has hurt the team as they sunk to last place, and it's cost them real money for the honor.
