Mejia: 14 Farnsworth: 3 Torres: 2 Valverde: 2 Familia: 1 Matsuzaka: 1 Eveland: 1 Farnnie and Valverde are in the clubhouse, so to speak, but surely we can get Black in on this action. Torres, Rice, Germen... what say you? OK, maybe not Rice.
Promotions and alterations and that rotation doesn't hold at all. But if you went last night, you saw domination from Greg Peavey: 8.0 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 SO. He's 8-1.
That's just a terrible break. As a supporter of Trammell and Raines, I hates it. On the other hand, I'd like to think that gets them into the long, slow cycle of Veteran's Committee review before their beards grow too long.
Here's the other thing. We didn't dump Ike. We held out and got two no-kidding arrows for the quivers of future Met managers. Tough choice, but solid so far. Terry in the post-game was talking about himself as a development-oriented baseball guy. That the satisfaction in seeing guys come through at the big league level was knowing how much work they've put into their game to turn that corner. I'm trying not to see that as Terry laying out an exit strategy --- a lot of great big league managers were teachers and developmentally minded --- but let's just say I'm a little closer to being on board with Operation Backman than I was a year ago.

I dunno, they essentially paid about $2.2 million* for 7 weeks of nothingness from Morales and about 1/3 of a season for a middle reliever who walks nearly 5 per/9 innings. Coming off a serious injury, too.
