  1. A lot of starters sliding happily over to the bench like it's the 1970s all over again. But Laggy sliding over for Caleb Stewart? I laugh! I scoff!
  2. I'd be less than shocked. I mean... somebody is gonna get paid eventually. It wouldn't be surprising if he gets a deal that pays him big in his last few years of team control and then gives them back two of his free-agency-eligible years. I mean, he's a post-op pitcher. It wouldn't be the first time that Scott Boras steered a client into protecting his future by taking some of his paydays up front. I mean, it wouldn't be, right?
  3. Kelvim Escobar: veteran starter/sometimes reliever. He picked Omar's pocket, signing for $12 million before the 2009 season and then blowing out his shoulder before ever throwing a pitch for the team in the minors or majors. Ka-ching.
  4. It was painful? i was five, but I tend to think it was full of grace and meaning.
  5. "Wick Weed goes into his stwetch... checks Wentewia... STWIKE FWEE!" "Weah getting wepawts that Gwant Wobits has been QUITE the wascal."
  6. Nelly in the Archives Nelson Figueroa (March 2008) Figueroa (April 2008) Waivers (April 2009) Wifey Watch 2OO9 (January 2009, but Alisa Blows up in April) Figueroa named IL Pitcher of Week (June 2009) Figgy DFA'ed ... again (May 2009) Much Love for Nelson Figueroa (January 2010) Mets Fifth Starter (February 2010, and who voted for Escobar?!) Highlight of the whole bit is when LWFS dubs Alisa "Ms. Managed Expectations."
  7. "Tiger Woods Shoots 73 at Phoenix Open in First Round of 2015." Woods bogeyed the first two holes and double bogeyed the fourth. He was making Willie Mays on the Mets look like Mike Trout on the Angels. It was tough to watch at times.
  8. I guess we shouldn't expect Bobby O. to go unquietly.
  9. We have a "Wifey Watch" thread. And there's Alisa actually wearing a jersey that says "WIFEY." That's funny!
  10. Nelson would bring back the eyebrow factor that's been missing since Josh Satin played his way off the team. Alisa, on the other hand, is nobody's fool. She knows exactly which thread to look for herself in.
  11. Bobby Ojeda, out as Mets in-studio analyst. Front of the line to replace him is... Nelson Figueroa?
  12. Yeah, there's a lot of places to go before enforcing multi-batter minimums, which again, really changes the nature of the game. How about limiting warmup pitches for a guy who just left the pen is an easy place to start.
  13. Edgy to co-worker/former MLB employee: So, you know Rob Manfred? Co-Worker: Know him? Not really, but I've certainly sat in on a few meetings with him. Edgy: Yeah, I guess marketing and labor relations wouldn't frequently have cause to meet. Co-Worker: No, not really. But I can tell you that he's kind of... he's kind of... a huge dick.

  15. And Law names his Hot 100. 116. Blah Blah Blah 17. Noah Syndergaard: ("seems like the safest bet of any of the premium pitching prospects on this list.") 1840. Buncha shmoes. 41. Michael Conforto 42-44. Weirdoes. 45. Kevin Plawecki 4564. Guys I frankly don't trust. 65. Dominic Smith 6668. Wannabees 69. Amed Rosario (but somehow not one of MLB's top 10 shortstop prospects? BAH!) 7090. Nutjobs. 91. Brandon Nimmo 92100. Derelicts and problem children. Notable in their absence: Matz and Herrera.
  16. I feel a compulsion to be where the incoherent idiots aren't.
  17. One of his teammates had a little girl named Dakota also. It was a happening name back in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer era. You get your Dakotas and Cheyennes, but nobody ever names their daughters "Cowlitz" or "Blackfoot."
  18. Manfred has since walked back his shift comments. I knew I would like this guy the moment I read this fan comment on Adam Rubin's Facebook page: The Comissioner is an idiot or a FREIND THE THE MET OWNERS.
  19. These are deadly times. Charlie had a strong, cleft chin, like a proto-Neil Allen. Played for the Mankato Mets in 1968, one of their but two years of existence, under future Mets manager Joe Frazier. Had a strong season for them. The trade was ironic, in that it was formulated to right an historical wrong, but it ended up sending away the only Met born in Flushing. (To that date, anyhow Flushingite Ed Glynn would follow later.)
  20. Mejia settles at $2.595 millyun.
  21. Cecchini, Rosario, Reynolds, et al. fail to defend Mets honor in the shortstop category. Boooo....! BUT... Keith F. Law ranks the minor league systems: Chicago Cubs Minnesota Twins Houston Astros N=#FFBF00]uy=#FFBF00]or=#FFBF00]ic=#FFBF00]an =#FFBF00]Me=#FFBF00]ts Boston Red Sox ...
  22. I would've guessed Carson still had a future as a lefty specialist. But he probably had about five DFAs in his future before he learned to stay away from the wheelhouse. The Tim Byrdak career track. Now, who knows? The indy minors beckon.
  23. Mets Guy in Michigan wrote: I also liked the old Asheville Tourists logo, with the styling bear and his loud shirt, camera and suitcase. He's ready to have some fun! >>>> "Are you packed for vacation yet, Smokey?" >>>> "Not yet, Honey. Can't find my vacation spikes."
  24. None other than the legendary Dakota Wendell.
  25. Well, that's why you bring in on a minor league deal and send him to Vegas. Sink or swim, Evy.
