  1. That's fair. Gerry Arrigo. (Do Gerrys count?)
  2. Hard to compare him to Bay unless you wanna. Half the years and close to half the salary once you account for inflation. If he doesn't work out, he's a lot easier to move aside.
  3. It's a lot easier for a professional to wake up in the morning having lost the game playing it the culturally mainstream way than to lose it playing it against the grain. You get hung a lot more quickly losing your own way — whether that's the cause of the losing or not. Change takes more than brains. It takes professional courage.
  4. Who had the best season from the Mets 2014 bullpen. Well, don't look at Bobby Parnell, folks. The answer is right before you. Can I repeat? Will I wrest closing duties from those other two? You make the call.
  5. That certainly remains to be seen. I imagine none of us has an average amount of time spent on issuing a challenge.

  7. CBS Sports wrote: Managers must challenge replays from dugout. No more slow walks over to umpires on the field in order to stall while team replay mavens check their TV monitors. Hey, look.
  8. That's Tom Seaver's brother, Larry Bowa's cousin, and Art Howe's twin.
  9. Randazzo, it turns out, is the cousin of MLB umpire Tony Randazzo.
  10. Yes, I know it's not the same. My post was meant satirically to point out that the same news was being posted more than once. OE: I'm certainly guilty of the same.
  11. Not only is Syndergaard the #11 prospect according to Baseball Prospectus, but a publication called BP has ranked a Mets prospect named Thor in their 11th slot. When we report the same news a second time, it's like a fake validation of the earlier post. YEAH!
  12. Oh, at the start of the season, I wasn't good enough to be one of the two lefties to break camp in the Mets bullpen. What kind of insanity was that? I'll tell you what kind. You know how the Mets packed the bullpen with veteran retreads until the kids in the house were ready to take over? Valverde and Farnsworth, right? Forgetting anybody? Damn straight, you are. The Mets opened the season with two lefties, and their names were Scott Rice and... and... C'mon, people! John F. Lannan!!! That guy was totally a 2014 Met! But I not only replaced him. I replaced him so quickly and so effectively that I damn near deleted him from your memory. Fading like a picture of Marty McFly's siblings. That guy got Edg'd. That's how I work. You might get Edg'd too, if you don't watch out. I assume Met Fairy has some pix of Met 66 to post below. In the meantime, what do you see in my 2015? Because I like it here.
  13. Lucas Duda found himself last year. Does he have what it takes to keep himself? To find more of himself. For he is a big man, capable of punishing entire rooms full of people. Foolish people. They don't pull people's arms out of their sockets when they lose. Duda is known to do that. [fimg=350]http://cdnmo.coveritlive.com/media/image/201405/phpXyfoJIDudebacca.jpg[/fimg] Lucas Duda... what's his 2015 looking like?
  14. Matz is all over the board, i'n't he? Looks like a make-or-brake year for Rosario, as far as prospect stock, if not so far as his ultimate fate. He could easily become the Mets #1 prospect by this time next year, or fade like the grass in the fields.
  15. I'll take that bet. I mean, come on. A .667 OPS is a perfectly viable output by a defense-first bench player in 2014. It's not ideal, but considering he's something like the team's seventh option and he burned down the town in Las Vegas last year, I'm pretty glad we have him. Definitely understand why folks are surprised he wasn't dealt off. He's in danger of stagnating in our system. And every team needs a ball hawk. He was probably the 51s' MVP. I'll go with .265 / .335 / .371 // .706 in 44 games. Five-for-seven in steals. Wife does something attention-grabby. Gets her some ink in the New York Post. It won't be clear at first whether she's just naive or a real piece of work.
  16. That's beautiful. He doesn't even look that old but seems unsure about where he belongs and what he's gotten into. The world is passing him by. He knows good things are afoot, but he has the vaguest idea that something important is being lost also, and he's helpless to stop it. He'd try to warn somebody, but he's not sure anybody gives a shit, and it might just isolate him further. That photo captures how I feel every day.
  17. Right?
  18. He can certainly provide some Dykstrability to Lagares' Wilsonianness. The problem with that scenario is that Mookie had to rip his shoulder and shatter his eyeball for Lenny to get into the mix. For now, it's hard to think of him as worthy of getting ahead of Nieuwenhuis. And he's going to be 27. Just one in a series of logjams that Sandy seems to cultivate.
  19. I'm Danny Espinosa. Beards are bullshit.
  20. Not all 12. More than a few of those monkeys were acting under their own volition.
  21. Dress made out of used Mets baseballs. Umm...
  22. The best news here is that the Mets have learned to recognize when a guy is pitching a Ponzi scheme. WtG Mets!
  23. Edgy MD wrote: I've got a new theory on jersey retirement. Rather than sweat whether Carter's 8 or Hernandez's 17 gets retired for their excellence and or character, why not press for the unceremonious retirement of Ambiorix Burgos' 48, so no player again be linked to his ignominy, and his legacy never again hinted at by the appearance of a Mets uniform. And the gods hear my cry.
