  1. Heath Bell, in camp on a minor league dealio with the Nats, has dropped 40 pounds. He may well be in the best shape of his life!
  2. In my mind, Procter did get an appearance or two. I guess I've conflated him with Dave Liddell or somebody. Time to schedule a neurological exam. And maybe a visit to the procterologist.
  3. I don't understand how anybody gets away with that crap.
  4. I'm empty. I had forgotten Presley was a pitcher. In my clouded mind, he was a failed third baseman. Frayed Knot has already left me defeated just by having a legit guess.
  5. I'd like to apologize for my substandard contribution to children's literature. I went into this new venture with the highest of expectations, intending to add the Newberry Medal to my pile of MVPs. I did not know at the time that there is no pharmaceutical that enhances a person's performance in crafting pre-school level verse. I should have researched this before entering into this venture. I basically produced a $17.95 coffee coaster. For this, I am deeply sorry. Sincerely, Alex
  6. Getting passed on the depth chart just as I'm on the verge... IT HURTS!! IT HURTS, LAGARES!! Montero knows what it feels like. Who do you think got passed by deGrom? IT BURNS!! So I'm taking my little d back out there, where I'm sixth or seventh on a depth chart of five. Oh, the injustice!! IT'S SEARING PAIN!! What happens with me this year? Will a spot open up? Will the timing be right so the opening happens while I'm playing well? Help me out, here.

John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Still a solid guy most nights and playing for a 102-win team is going to be to his advantage, win-column-wise. 16-10, 3.66, 150 K's, 50 BBs in 170 innings Lefty Specialist wrote: Playing for an 81-win team with a spotty offense will hinder him, win-column-wise, though. 13-8, 3.46, lots of ND's. Interestingly, the bearish guy here predicted the lower win total, but the higher win percentage, .619 to .615
  8. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: It's easy to forget that he was supposed to be a relief pitcher when they first brought him up. This often gets framed as evidence in the "Mets have no clue" case, but I thought it was flattering. They brought him up for a spot start with the intent to keep him around for relief. I didn't read this as "We don't think he has the goods to start" so much as "We don't have an opening right now, but we think he looks to have put the minors behind him."
  9. Rookie of the Year. Surprise of surprises. Men's Hair Care Now cover model. But... well, kinda old for a rookie. Can I build on last year's success? Can I?! What will 2015 look like for Jacob deGrom?
  10. RealityChuck wrote: Black now looks like Yukon Cornelius. "Ground balls bounce!" Justin Turner... that guy was digging for silver and gold.
  11. Lefty Specialist wrote: Edgy MD wrote: PREDICT!! Seriously, man, these threads are about money on the table. 50 games. 3/25/.250 (pushes chips in) BEARISH!
  12. Wait, is Speed gonna be played by Cedric the Entertainer?
  13. Totally suited him. That's the beard of a guy who spent the offseason working on boats in New England. Not like the posers we're getting here. Zachry, or course, also wore it authentically. His was the beard of a guy who hauled fertilizer in the back of a pickup. It defined Mets beards for a generation, inspired wannabes like Kevin Kobel and Dwight Bernard, and distinguished the scratchy Mets from the beardless Yankees. Is there any doubt this guy had a still?
  14. 2. They weren't all good days, but on its best days, Jason Pridie's beard could turn heads. [fimg=600:176gynlq]https://cbsnewyork.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/127231943.jpg[/fimg:176gynlq]
  15. You wouldn't have though any Met could out douchebeard Justin Turner, but here we are. I think Kirk is giving the best beard of those three. High quality Mets beards through history: 1. Angel Pagan, baby. [fimg=350:18r4u0x3]https://thenypost.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/angel_pagan-300x3009.jpg[/fimg:18r4u0x3] [fimg=350:18r4u0x3]http://baseballnewssource.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Pagan.jpg[/fimg:18r4u0x3] Neither of these fully capture's its magic, but I think it was LWFS who said that Angel may have achieved the Platonic ideal of "beard." it was a beard fit for a man named Angel.
  16. I dunno. Zim's got a third-base line behind him, while Backman seems to be in the middle of the diamond.
  17. So I told Kate, "No, that's a great look for you. Everybody will think so." I'm deeply sorry. Sincerely, Alex
  18. Wasn't the Odd Couple re-boot called Two and Half Men?
  19. From the "THINGS WERE BETTER WHEN DIFFERENT TEAMS USED DIFFERENT MARKETING AND DESIGN FIRMS" comes this wonderful unearthing of Houston Astros game day programs from the sixties. Look at them mocking the Mets! That's fighting art! Look at Casey!
  20. Orioles supposedly near a one-year, $2.4 million deal with Everth Cabrera, killing a Mets dream or two.
  21. To All My Fans, Beyond what I apologized for yesterday, I'd like to apologize for the slap play. That was bush. Like, seriously bush. I know you have every reason not to believe me, but I'm going to contritely try to make up for that. Sincerely, Alex --- To All My Fans, I think I may have wrapped up my prior letter too early. Because after submitting it to the media, I went looking at old photos. Look at this one. What a tool! [fimg=250]http://www.thepritchettlawfirm.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/arod-cigar1.jpg[/fimg] I humbly apologize. Sincerely, Alex
  22. The Nats "win" offseason polls for Worst Free Agent Signing and Most Outrageous Contract. Considering that pool is of MLB execs, you have to think it's meaningfully informed (on one hand), but queered by at least some degree of wishful thinking on the other. Who doesn't want to see the rich kid's toys break? Anyways, it's nice to see at least the suggestion that somebody else's contract will eclipse Bobby Bonilla's with regard to the long tail of the payment obligations.
  23. For indeed, what is life without farts in crowded rooms?
  24. Yeah, I guess it's the runner coming straight that had me thinking steal-of-home. It could also be the runner scoring a grounder to deep short or something. That would explain the pitcher not backing up. Or maybe the pitcher just stinks. Watching old OC episodes is like an orgy of incidental art. I want to start a blog where I try to identify all Oscar's b/w photos the prizefighter, the racehorse, the (apparent) Mets team photo. Which year is that from? Which year are his banners from?
