  1. Urena has gone from soft to svelte and even more raw power has followed, as he put on a show in batting practice, hitting a far-off shed and frightening maintenance workers. How cinematic! I may print this quote out a few dozen times and paper my cube with it. Urena didn't make mlb.com's top-ten-by-position lists, making third base the first position in which the Mets got shut out. I'm hoping this made him angry.
  2. No homers for Cuddy yet. But he's got a double and he's scored the game's only run.
  3. You just know they're buds (the McHughs and the Gees), but a team like Houston needs Collin and Buzzy to light things up more than the Mets do. We've got... um... .
  4. Dillon Gee takes the hill against his ol' buddy Colin McHugh, as our middle infield is hobbled. 5. With me, Chip Ambres and Chris Aguila have become one blurry C.A.-initialed reserve outfielder DFA-ing his way through the summers of 2007/2008. "Neither of the collapses happened while I was on the roster!" Crip Ambuila cries.
  6. Business Insider: Mets Addicted to Trivia Crack. Daily News: Kids Use Wishing Tree to Support Their Teams [fimg=500]http://assets.nydailynews.com/polopoly_fs/1.2159698.1427140810!/img/httpImage/image.jpg_gen/derivatives/article_970/mets1.jpg?enlarged[/fimg] Listen, Wright, that wishing tree is for kids. You could at least try to disguise your handwriting.
  7. The Chip Ambres Game. His third and final game with the Mets, each featuring one at-bat, in which he rolled the go-ahead (and ultimately game-winning) hit in the 10th inning against the Dodgers, putting the 2007 Mets up by 3.5 games over the Braves, who lost in 10 themselves.
  8. I apologize. But I would not let Ray Watts & the Questions go so unappreciated for giving what was, and remains, a lost gift for mankind.
  9. Hi, I'm Zack Wheeler, and this conversation would have been MUCH more interesting if my name was Zach Beeler and this thread went up several weeks ago. But hey, there are still questions to answer. Will I rehab in St. Lucie or New York? Will I step out with my lady friend? Any new lady friends? Will I show up at Jeter Day like some sort of tool? Will my hairline make a comeback like Howard Johnson's did, or will I go bald with honesty and dignity like Joel Youngblood or LeBron James? Will I do awesome things with my big awesome truck? I hope I do! [fimg=700]http://cdn.c.photoshelter.com/img-get2/I00001uLgcyB7Lng/fit=1000x750/NY-Mets-pitcher-Zack-Wheeler110.jpg[/fimg] My 2015 won't include much baseball. What will it include?
  10. Who's the resident Chip Ambres expert here? I forgot all about him, too. But I believe he had a heroic moment or two late in the season.
  11. Special congratulations to today's floaties, pitcher Chase Huchingson and catcher Jeff Glenn, who each made their debut with the SpringMets. Huchingson pitched a scoreless ninth. In other bullpen news, Buddy Carlyle got his first blemish, giving up one of two Mike Morse homers. His ERA ballooned to a still-impressive 1.42. Morse may be overlooked as a possible upsetter in the division balance of power.
  12. Zvon wrote: Should I go hunt down The Hampster Dance & Chinese Food? If you'd like to find a newfound critical context in which to appreciate this song among all you've ever heard, yes. If you don't want to just be plum annoyed for the rest of the day to the point of anger at everybody you encounter, no. I would describe the first with being the musical equivalent of stepping on a Lego piece barefoot. In winter. I would describe the second with being the musical equivalent of jerking your foot up after stepping on the Lego piece and kicking the coffee table.
  13. Yeah and not a lot of Otis Redding lyrics have won Pultizers either. It's called soul, baby. And the main quality of sixties soul ain't typically in the lyrics sheet. It's in the delivery. We want a hit!
  14. Your listening life must be a lot richer than mine ("The Hamster Dance" and "Chinese Food" aren't worse?), as I find it delightful.
  15. Loy Records apparently had a catalog of all of three singles.
  16. I imagine future Hall of Fame players have faced off against each other. And certainly guys who would have been in the Hall of Fame as players had it existed have faced off against each other. Trying to find an overlooked precedent. Ted Williams faced Bob Lemon, but before Lemon joined the Hall of Fame. Bob Lemon faced Frank Robinson, but before Robbie joined the Hall of Fame.
  17. Not a lot of Velasquez affection. Three games. Three ERA. Sold to the Yankees for an undisclosed sum. He and Satterwhite are two of a kind, man.
  18. I did some quick checking. Start one vs. Mets, 1977: Koosman. Start two vs. Mets, 1978: Koosman. Start three vs. Mets, 1979: Swannie. So far, yeah, I guess.
  19. It seemed that the Mets always tried to match up their default "guy" when Seaver was confronting them Jerry Koosman, then Swan, and when Swan got extensively injured, Zachry. I'm certain my memory of that is distorted by the drama of it all.
  20. I got shipped out a couple of days ago, but I made it to the third week of March and none of you can say the same. But I'll be back. I'm from the Bronx, I've survived three seasons of indy ball, and I kinda look like a Latino John Franco. I'm a dalgurned survivor. [fimg=500]http://www.collectthemets.com/posts/20140518-BMets-Velasquez2.jpg[/fimg] I struck out 49 and walked only 13 in 54 innings at Bingo last year, so you know I throw strikes. What kind of throwing do you see me doing in 2015?
  21. Monell replaces Recker. I'm not sure if that was planned or the Mets are adhering to some sort of mercy rule.
  22. Holy moly. Two-run homer for Muno.
  23. Four innings and two earned runs for deGrom. Nice to see Ichiro not providing on both offense and defense today. Love the guy, but love more that the Marlins have elected to float him for a year while he's a shell of his former self.
  24. Wild pisch by ex-Met Pat Misch and the Mets have double digits in runs.
  25. I'm a believer in that protocol.
