I'll post the full standings tomorrow after the late games are in, but the NL East is all finished, and the Mets go to bed as both the division leaders and the hottest team in the National League.

My quiz answer: Ralph Kiner, Stan Musial.

That popup aside, d'Arnaud has been looking like a five-tool all-star tonight. I'm thinking of petitioning MLB to let him keep wearing 42.

Another team's broadcaster noted that Nieuwenhuis (also a re-enactor) gets around pretty well for a big man. Maybe it's because he debuted for the Mets in center, but I tend to think that he's a pretty big man for someone who gets around so well.

Here's to a whole season of the Phils running DeFrietas out there.

Pitcher's got nothing here. I'd still happily encourage the team to bunt against the shift.

And Tejada thanks them by knitting them a bootie.

It's beautiful. Everybody who comes to the plate reminds me at least a little of Butch Huskey.

Ruben getting applause?!

Ronnie's right. The catcher gave Asche a lousy target.

Even the umps are wearing 42.

Doo-Doo Bomb. [bigpurple:3798q87v]KABOOM![/bigpurple:3798q87v]

Sawed-off line out. A little bit o' luck, a little bit o' skill.

Bases loaded, two outs. Warthan goes to the mound to tell Niese to shave.

Savannah Manager Jos Leger is only 32 and looks about 25. Its possibly the last season for the Sand Gnats, whose owners are considering moving the team. The city of Savannah has declined to build a new stadium, and the Gnats contract to play at Grayson Stadium expires at the end of the season. It's his forth season in Savannah. His first DSL managership started when he was 28.

I'm having one of those weeks where everyone seems to be setting me up for a "THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID!" punchline.

They each owe you a dollar. ASSERT YOUR RIGHTS! Stupid internet. Apply for a "Ron Taylor Day" copyright now in anticipation of next year!

Key information to glean from that lineup: [list:k1plbviq][*:k1plbviq]d'Arnaud bumped up to second in the lineup. #faith[/*:m:k1plbviq] [*:k1plbviq]Campbell inserted into lineup. #hope[/*:m:k1plbviq] [*:k1plbviq]Murphy kept at second base. #love[/*:m:k1plbviq][/list:u:k1plbviq]

MLB to honor Butch Huskey.

Well, wounded captain once again. I guess this makes for a Granderson-Cuddyer-Murphy triumvirate of leaderliness until he returns. The short-benchedness is clearly a dangerous game to play. I demand that they actives Racienello. What would you give up and would you be willing to pay full freight? ($15 mill this year and $15 mill each of the next three years if he gets 500 at-bats in the previous season.) I think it's a $2 million buyout elsewise. I imagine they'd take Daniel Muh straight up, as long as we threw in a fake prospect so it didn't look like they took Daniel Muh straight up.

Wright hitting the DL makes his pursuit of Strawberry something of an uphill climb. 1) Darryl Strawberry: 252 2) David Wright: 231 3) Mike Piazza: 220 4) Howard Johnson: 192 5) Dave Kingman: 154 6) Carlos Beltran: 149 7) Todd Hundley: 124 8) Kevin McReynolds: 122 9) Edgardo Alfonzo: 120 10) Ed Kranepool: 118 ... ... 22) Rusty Staub: 75 23) Lucas Duda: 74 24) Ron Swoboda: 69 ... ... T34) Bernard Gilkey: 52 T34) Frank Thomas: 52 36) Daniel Murphy: 49 37) John Stearns: 46 Strawberry and Kranepool, for that matter feeling a little safer this morning.

That makes sense. You can't run far on it, but he still had his forward momentum to take him the last few feet.

I like Campbell too. Like that we have a lot of good options. Hey, here's more upside: more time to heal Wright's shoulder! Still would like to go a little while with a healthy Wright. He's been playing too hard for too long, trying to perhaps do too much.
