  1. "Le Grand d'Orange" to you. See what pulling MLB out of Montreal has done to us. Our French is collectively suffering.
  2. 1) Noah Syndergaard Not showing it yet, with a 4.70 ERA through two starts. More concerning is the six walks and seven strikeouts. 2) Steven Matz Much more compelling is his 2.93 ERA through 15 1/3 innings over three starts (1-1 record). But the wildness is still there, striking out 14, but walking 11. I think too much time in Vegas makes good men a little plate-shy. 3) Dilson Herrera Getting his hitting done, with a .333 / .370 / .405 // .774 line in Vegas. Definitely not ready as I see it. 4) Brandon Nimmo With a .214 / .306 / .381 // .687 start in Bingo, it's not a quick job out of the gate, but it definitely shows him as the three-true-outcome species that he is. Has got two homers in his first 50 appearances, so there's that. 5) Kevin Plawecki His .216 / .237 / .324 // .561 warms few hearts, but as you might have read, that includes something like an 0-20 start followed by an 8-17 run since then. 6) Rafael Montero Spouted a 4.15 ERA over four games as a big league reliever. Coming in for high leverage spots with men on base is probably not a good opportunity to show his trademark control, and it's again been spotty (including walking in a run with the bags juiced). Will be interesting to see if he bounces back as a starter as he heads back to Vegas to re-train for a starting opportunity. 7) Michael Conforto Making St. Luciens happy by putting up MVP numbers in the Florida State League: .366 / .460 / .707 // 1.167, featuring four homers and 13 RBI. 8) Marcos Molina Good start in St. Lucie, with a 3.27 ERA through his first two starts, 12 strikeouts and four walks through 11 innings. Is a rare thing as a 20-year-old starting pitcher in full-season ball. 9) Amed Rosario This one is a 19-year-old in St. Lucie, starting at shortstop and hitting .250 / .302 / .325 // .627. 10) Jhoan Urena Slowing out of the gate with a .238 / .273 / .381 // .654 for the SL Mets.
  3. Threw 1 2/3 scoreless against the Mets in his debut. I'm gonna pretend it didn't happen.
  4. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Reports out of Miami tonight suggest Loria could be seeking a replacement for Redmond already. Kicker: It's Wally Backman he wants to replace him. Looking forward to Miami incurring a big fat tampering fine.
  5. Anyhow, as much as it seems he's been good but not great, and therefore begging for his self promotion campaign to blow up in his face, 24 strikeouts and one walk through three starts. Gabba Gabba Hey! Currently sitting on 20 straight innings without a walk issued by a Mets starting pitcher. In another context, Niese and Gee might be designated as "control specialists," but on this staff, they're no big whoop, control wise.
  6. Bat-Signals, brought to you by Quallcomm, he'd be all over it.

  8. That's a great interview. If I was a-working for the Mets, I'd be diving into the archives looking for footage of Bush at the ballpark in 1971 or 1972, just 'cuz. Maybe he's just keyed up for opening day, but it's notable how fast Gary Carter is working to keep his pitcher in a groove, turning quickly to the ump after a foul asking for a new ball, and then pumping it back to his pitcher and jumping into his crouch.
  9. That Uni Watch link, btw, didn't take me to a Harvey-related posting.
  10. The last guy with individual customized stickers for his bat knobs was... nobody? I'm not sure. I don't know. It's silly diversion when a group of fans does it. But yeah, it's embarrassing when the subject becomes invested in it. Grown men (or women) rallying around their brand is a necessary thing, because a team or a band need a name and identity to define the collective. A grown man working his own individual brand into the collective act is another story. Nature gave you a face and a set of abilities. Your parents gave you a name. Make the most of these things and that's your brand. I mean, Deion Sanders... Jim McMahon... Brian Bosworth... these men become remembered not as bold champions no matter how high their achievements but rather as tiresome creatures.
  11. But, as the standings thread teaches us, they're 16.5 games out NET! At any rate, it's nice to see them in a hole before their Matt Harvey reappears mid-season.
  12. Our old buddy Alan Dykstra serves God and man, crushing his first career homer off the screen to turn a 2-0 Yankee lead into a 3-2 deficit. Unfortunately, the rest of the Rays didn't do their part, and Yanks came out on top.
  13. Mets are not the only red hot team in the league, as their two new fellow division leaders are also aflame, particularly the top-spending Los Angeles Dodgers. San Francisco is floundering, and they've installed our old bud Angel Pagan as their number three hitter. They seem to have a solid starting eight, but they miss Hunter Pence daily and dearly. 15. An ironic upside to a surplus injuries is, if you can hang in there, healing players are always on the way back. Of course, that means you have to hang in there, and they have to come back relatively whole. 18. So then, he's sitting on what may turn out to be the perfectest season in Metly history.
  19. If Blevins' season is done, he'll have thrown five Metly innings, coming up two outs short of the best unblemished career in team history, behind only Dan Schatzeder and C.J. Nitkowski (fellow lefty short relievers both), who each pitched and punched their Metly cards at 5 2/3 innings, without giving up a run.
  20. I feel confident we'll see more of d'Arnaud. He's hitting a lot better than Wally Pipp was. And Pipp was 32. And as hopeful as one may be about Plawecki, there's little reason suspect he's a catching Lou Gehrig.

If we have to disable both d'Arnaud and Blevins (and based on the last time I checked, I would guess we do), the decision seems to point straight to Monell and Leathersich, though Ricecakes and Alvaraez both have room for hope. Also possible that Gilmartin and Torres do the left-handing and the Mets call up a righty. Kudos to Sandy for seemingly needing one left-hander and going out and getting two.
  22. That was tough. It stayed down on Campy. Two injuries, man.
  23. Stanton is more in scoring position at home than at first.
