  1. So, is Miller going on between games or after Game Two today? Because if it's half as beautiful in New York as it is in DC, it's a great day for some jungle lovin'.
  2. My money's on Carlos Torres.
  3. I like to read this as a greeting: "What's up, Duda's Ass?!"
  4. It apparently doesn't, as the rule includes a disclaimer that it only applies to doubleheaders scheduled 48 hours or more in advance, for some reason. And obviously this isn't a true double header under any circumstances. Yeah, they can send down the guy they get the most usage out of, but it's the late innings of a tie game, so they are presumably going to use their best available relievers to close out this first game.
  5. They could have a strange roster situation where the team moves to activate Murphy, but he'll be unable participate in the first game, and Campbell (or Dilson) will have to grind their way through, knowing he'll be dismissed after the continued game. That's already going to be the situation with Verrett, or somebody.
  6. Love to see the bases loaded for Grandy or Duda so they can't stack the right side.
  7. Downside of the pitcher-batting-eighth strategy comes into play here.
  8. Frayed Knot wrote: Perhaps if they try looking at more called strike threes then things might improve. I believe William Safire would have considered it better usage to pluralized it as "strikes three." Anybutts (suck it, Safire), we have a leadoff single and Laggy ahead in the count. Lots of strategy coming up. Nope, ball four almost becomes a double play.
  9. Five-pitch innings work nicely.
  10. Tied up on a double doing an awfully good impression of a two-base error. Bleh.
  11. Double for Cuddy. Would be HEWJ to get him home with Harvey on the bump and a potential short workday.
  12. Six more outs make this official. [youtube:2xrzwvg0]cwoiy-Fwm0E[/youtube:2xrzwvg0]
  13. Can we pretty please drop him into the three-hole?
  14. I'm thinking Steve Miller ain't getting this one in.
  15. Hey, we're scoreless in the third, and... IT'S OUTA HERE!!! CURTIS GRANDERSON GOES THE OTHER WAY!!!
  16. Granderson takes sole possession of ninth place.
  17. Mets sign 28th rounder, catcher Anthony Dimino. If Anthony makes it to the big time, he'll be the first big leaguer out of Belmont Abbey College since Hal Haid (1919, 19281931, 1933).
  18. Lefty Specialist wrote: Keith said his pitch recognition is poor. Cueto beat him with changeups all night, until he finally laid off them and walked. Yeah that was fascinating. Cueto got ahead 0-2 and then suddenly seemed to have nothing in the tank. He was pitching it all over the place, seemed to have no idea what he wanted to throw, slowed way down, had a couple of chats with his catcher, including two during a single interval between pitches. It was like old Pedro up there, but old Pedro would have been stalling in part out of gamesmanship, knowing he had enough for one more batter. Cueto just turned from a fresh Matt Harvey to a wasted lex Torres right there with an 0-2 count on Boo. I thanked God, but I also thank the Met lineup. Even though they weren't scoring, they had least had the virtue of making him work all evening.
  19. I ain't complainin' But I'd sure like to find me A true, fine glove A Ruben Tejada But that's better and hotta A true, fine glove Cause we don't have Wright And Eric Campbell's been shite And I've suddenly found that we won't win the crown If we don't get our bats out As we roll Steve Matz out that's key You'll see And Steve's from Setauket So you know he'll bring his family-ee!
  20. I don't think we have enough "select all that apply" polls. I'm hoping he knocks 'em dead and turns his act around on Lucas Duda Growth Chart Poster Day.
  21. If there's an injury, it doesn't seem to be showing up on defense.
  22. I checked four different things. I just think he's a complex emotional monster. You need to push all your crap aside to stay focused in there, and he seems to have more crap than most to begin with. And then, with attrition and other realities leaving him the burden of being the anchor or the lineup, that's more than our big bugaboo can bear. "A very good player. Not a superstar."
  23. Thursday night, the Las Vegas 51s won 20-6. Twenty runs, of course, represents a week for the Mets these days. A good week. Kirk Niewenhuis homered twice in that game, and once last night (against a rehabbing Jake Peavy!), giving him six homers in nine games since returning to Las Vegas. Six homers! That represents a year for him in Flushing. A good year. Dillon gee threw three scoreless innings. Not everything is different, though, as he got run up for six runs in the fourth.
  24. Murphcakes started at third base and went 4-5 for the St. Lucie Mets in their 9-3 win over Bradenton. I'm guessing one more game and he takes over at third to back Matz on Sunday.
