  1. I think I've spotted the interloper.
  2. Seeing as how they did what they did last night without their two best 2015 hitters Granderson and Duda I'm starting to think that really have turned a corner and have a really good lineup and that last night, leaving aside the last-place-opponent factor, was real. Irrational?
  3. Get some quality users, people!
  4. We're going for Western hero analogies here, man.
  5. I'm just jealous that there are still bisbol fora out there with 56-page threads. Get us some users, people.
  6. Hey, let's be fair. We all know Tommy Lasorda is the Mickey Rooney of managers.
  7. Jeff Francoeur was claimed off waivers and pulled back by the Phillies. Allow me to repeat that: Jeff Francoeur was claimed off waivers and pulled back by the Phillies.
  8. I don't know. Terry's a small man in a land of giants and has to force himself upon people. Gil was probably as big as anybody in the room well after his career ended, and he was a self-assured marine. He had gravitational force that Terry perhaps never could have. And a moral authority along with it. I only know from reading, but I got the idea that, when Gil emerged from the dugout, the umpires thought, "Uh, oh, what did I do wrong now?" The John Wayne of Brooklyn. Terry's more of an Alan Ladd.
  9. TransMonk wrote: It was a great game. The Flores walk-off has been the best of the season so far...but this one is in the running for my second favorite. Quick. Top ten. Go!
  10. Here's Tony buddying up with Dierks Bentley.
  11. It's just such a great thing for a guy like deGrom who has picked the team up time after time to get a pick-up of his own. Totally takes the monkey off his back going down the stretch.
  12. Maybe. I'd encourage you to check that out. I've got to get some work done today.
  13. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Poor Ruben. Flores got greedy and hit a second homer, which was totally Tejada's to hit. He did get one nice drive off into the right-centerfield gap, but Whatshistupidface ran it down. He made up for it by totally missing Murphy's second double, which would have been a triple if Murphy wasn't letting up on the gas.
  14. On the other hand, he was 18 in the Summer of Love. And he's from Midland, Michigan. He might have listened to a LOT of Amboy Dukes. But I'll go with Night Moves. To borrow from Wayne's World, in Midland, Michigan, it probably came in the mail, along with samples of laundry detergent. And as an undersized young athlete trying to hang on to his career, he was probably more of a passive listener. In 1976 (when Night Moves is released), he's 27 and in his second year of AAA with his stats dropping off alarmingly. Davey Lopes and Bill Russell are entrenched with the big club. Rafael Landestoy has passed him on the organizational depth chart despite being four years younger. Autumn is closing in.
  15. Even after the 0-5 by Ruben last night, the Mets are fourth in the league in fWAR by shortstops. The shortstop-rich team they were supposed to be dealing with, Chicago? Dead fucking last. RK TEAM fWAR 1 Giants 4.00 2 Pirates 3.40 3 Braves 3.00 T4 Mets 2.50 T4 Reds 2.50 6 Marlins 2.00 7 Cardinals 1.90 8 Phillies 1.50 9 Dodgers 1.30 10 Diamondbacks 0.80 11 Nationals 0.40 12 Padres -0.10 T13 Brewers -0.40 T13 Rockies -0.40 15 Cubs -1.00 I'm less worried about finding the money to re-sign Cespedes and more concerned that there's enough to re-sign Alderson.

I'm happy just to get to average. Dead last (and it wasn't that close) at the end of July. Hats off to the Mets.
  17. When was the last time you saw a Mets relief pitcher get two at-bats in a regulation game?

  20. That was not lost on me as I checked the scores last night.

  22. With tonight's win with tonight's RESOUNDING win Mets are at least a .500 team over their last 5,818 games, going back to Wednesday, April 18, 1979, an improvement of 2 games. Like Frank Taveras? Hate him? Never heard of him? Well, tonight's win makes the Mets a .500 team back to the day before the challenge trade that brought Taveras here for Tim Foli. Frank Taveras is now entirely part of an historically redeemed team! That's something. It's something wonderful, I think. We are also taken back to the debut of Mike Scott. Welcome to redemption, Mike Scott. Sorta, you big fat cheater.
  23. Fire Alderson.
  24. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Howie and Josh expect Muffy will take one in the ribs next time up. Or get another extra-base hit. That was a triple on most other nights.
  25. Not for nothing, but shouldn't Wright be sitting?
