  3. Texas and Minnesota NOT cooperating.
  4. Kelly should probably come in standing there. Dilson should probably run for Duda.
  5. This be a tough time to come into a game.
  6. Nice to see Laggy getting into a game and busting it when he does.
  7. Clippard in a position to get a win. Wins are credited very unscientifically.
  8. Syndergaard ain't gonna get his road win.
  9. It's not an official game until Cespedes makes it so.
  10. Campbell hasn't appeared at second all this season. Meanwhile, the Braves booth still seems to think that Matz is Jewish.

  14. Beat me to it. 'Pool is in deep trouble. Passing eight of the top nine guys in one season is COOL!

  16. Great replay on the Atlanta broadcast shows Peterson is out.
  17. Conforto's surprisingly been a defensive plus, if only on pure hustle.
  18. Left out Dilson Herrera and John Mayberry, Jr. But there's this real game going on with a real lineup. My wife said, "Why don't you see what's going on between the Mets and that racist team?" Mets up 2-1, as much on Atlantean mistakes as on Knickerbocker achievements.
  19. Cubbage still has a chance to get out of that cellar. When I get grant to do baseball research, I'm going to study how the crediting of managerial wins and losses would be affected if you gave the occasional W's and L's to the guy who takes over when the manager has been ejected, or is absent due to illness or family or somesuch. Don Zimmer went 2115 while managing the Yankees during Joe Torre's recuperation from cancer. This would put him over 900 wins for his managerial career, but these games are all instead marked on Joe Torre's record.

  21. The truth is virtually everybody is that kind of guy. I mean, it's not that folks "shut it down," or necessary any moral failing along those lines, but that the sort of production and health a guy needs to trigger a superstar deal is unsustainable beyond a few years. I mean, apart from Babe-Rod Williams Bonds the Man, anyhow. And we know that two of those guys were cheating with substances not as readily available now. The best analog is a Met actually: Carlos Beltran. He was acquired at the deadline and had a monster run carrying his team through the post-season, and even though the contract it triggered had a few outstanding seasons, nobody was happy with the utterly predictable lesser seasons or health breakdowns, and there's a disproportionately bitter flavor associated with the deal. What makes Cespedes worth looking at anyhow to the Mets is his willingness to play centerfield, lowering the bar of excellence, and lowering the likelihood of a worst-case scenario.

Not only have they risen from dead last to seventh in the league in a short amount of time, but they're only .02 out of fourth place. That's some good batsmithing, boys. And it's not like these numbers don't count those 10 punchless weeks. 23. Mets need go 165 the rest of the way to get Terry Collins to 400 wins as a skipper on the high Met seas. He is also on the verge of passing Joe Frazier in the win percentage column. And maybe his antecedent Jerry Manuel too if he hits that 400 mark. 24. Tonight in HISTORICAL REDEMPTION, the Mets are now at least a .500 team over their last 5,880 games, going back to Wednesday, August 23, 1978, an improvement of 1 game. Not much, but it's important to note that Sandy's team isn't just clearing the red from Joe McDonald's ledger, but from his own. The Mets are now 19 games over .500, equaling the total they've been under .500 over the last two seasons, plus one game for good measure. They're not only redeeming 1978, but 2012 also. Scratched from (or at least equaled on) the historical register is this punchless effort, in which a strong performance by Tom Hausman is undermined by an indifferent offense and late fart by Skip Lockwood. [fimg=800]http://www.ultimatemets.com/scorecard_graph.php?game=2733&font=1[/fimg] The Mets are now a .500 team dating back to the birth of Kobe Bryant (who grew up a Mets fan).
  25. Let's go, Minnesota!
