  1. Back in the nineties, she auctioned off some of the prize pieces in her mother's art collection for charity. It seemed like the market exploded later, but I guess the market for a collection of Picassos is always exploding. I remember stumbling over the catalog or something. I also guess it wouldn't be the strangest thing if some of those pieces ended up in Steve Cohen's hands, like her mom's ball team did.
  2. It certainly makes all sorts of sense that the first-hired guy is higher up, but I was thinking that he may be getting a non-dugout director of all batsmanship-type role. Maybe.
  3. So, are we to understand that Albert and Snitker will be co-hitting coaches? Will one have primacy?
  4. I did not suggest that Reimer is a butcher. I did not suggest that Suero's near-term position is first. I specifically wrote that neither is best suited at first, but if that is where the vacancy is — and that is the thesis of this thread — they are two guys in the system who play first, and thus, they become relevant.
  5. I think The Mets can afford to pursue two firstbasemen at once. If they somehow accidentally come to agreements with both, they have the DH slot open as well. So they can kind of land an Alonso replacement and keep negotiating with Alonso, if necessary.
  6. Free on Tubi. https://tubitv.com/movies/598337/a-fanatic-heart-geldof-on-yeats
  7. Autumnal rocker Bob Geldof explores the life of poet/playwright (and fellow Nobel laureate) William Butler Yeats, inviting many celebrated poets, musicians, and actors to read the poems as professors discourse on the impact of Yeats on the creation of the Irish identity and the century that would follow. 8. I do not really associate that color with brutalism. I think most would describe it as a "slate grey" or "graphite." Brutalism features the lighter tones of exposed concrete, like beach sand. Dirty beach sand, eventually, but beach sand. [FIMG=500]https://i.pinimg.com/originals/98/5c/e0/985ce0e83d95baf26aaf151334a55917.png[/FIMG]
  9. Shorthand = the 2025 Mets did poorly on the road. It would be nice if they could restore those road greys to their former glory. They might not be able to get the texture back with the current material, but it would be nice if they could at least get color tone and the font size right.
  10. No, there should not.
  11. This thread title is chilling. It sounds like the beginning of a very uneasy conversation between two parents concerned that their kid might be a fledgling psychopath, and they have put the topic off for fear that talking about it makes it real, but the last art project the school showed them suggests they really can't shelve the subject any longer.
  12. The Tom Seaver of The Athletics was Vida Blue. Won the MVP in 1971 that Seaver should have gotten in 1969. Perennial All-Star, All-Star starter, Sports Illustrated cover model, a name that was spoken with a hushed understanding of unimpeachableness, and carried a really heavy innings workload. Catfish Hunter may be in the Hall of Fame, but his moppy hair, unkempt look, and cornpone nickname kind of spoke of a folk hero, while Vida and Tom were action heroes. Maybe even super spies. Plus, Hall of Fame or not, Vida probably had the better career. What is the Tom Seaver of Manhattan neighborhoods?
  13. The Tom Seaver of the Bible was David. Incredible with a sling, got an incredible underdog over the top, but when they made him a king, he could be a real jerk. Also, they both liked wine.
  14. Yeah, for what its worth, I think those Grich and Whitaker are two of the strongest cases out there among guys the BBWAA ballot has long passed by. Whitaker getting the one-and-done treatment is one of those things that needs to be talked about. Why did we do that? What were we thinking? Was the ballot entirely composed of Super Friends that year or something? I don't know? Maybe I was just being racist. You're not a racist. I know I'm not A racist, but I have my days, if I'm being honest with myself. If you were "having a day," what does that say about the rest of us? You need to deal with your own ****. I'm having enough trouble answering for myself right now. He was one-and-done? Grich was one-and-done, too, and he's white. Yeah well, that was before my time. Dick Young probably didn't like his hair length or something. Dick Young was only one guy, though. I always thought that Whitaker and Trammell were two halves of one whole. Did Trammell get in? I don't think you really want the answer to that, do you? Holy ****, you're right. He went in back in 2019, and everybody was happy with that. That must've created a groundswell of support for Whitaker. It did not. ****, but at least Trammell must have had a higher WAR. He did not. ****! We just suck, don't we? We indeed do.

  16. Better them than the Mets. [FIMG=550]https://assets.rebelmouse.io/eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiIsInR5cCI6IkpXVCJ9.eyJpbWFnZSI6Imh0dHBzOi8vYXNzZXRzLnJibC5tcy8yMjA1ODk2Ni9vcmlnaW4uanBnIiwiZXhwaXJlc19hdCI6MTcwNTQ5MDg4OH0.QmzFft3QGzcJNJ1XQzKklRPyu3N1ngo9ny_jkL476y4/img.jpg?width=1200&height=600&coordinates=0%2C0%2C0%2C0[/FIMG]
  17. Dracula is fine, although you need a question as well.
  18. That would be Nolan McLean, T⚡️C⚡️B in the same craft as Tom, and untouched as he was by the ******** around him. Also, if there is any remote hope of him having a Tom Seaver of a career ahead of him, I'm sure not going to be the guy to throw cold water on it. What is the Tom Seaver of supplemental countertop kitchen appliances?
  19. Or, quite possibly, a player/manager hybrid candidacy will win out, as it most certainly could for Don Mattingly.
  20. Also, for 2002, I suspect that someday everybody will have forgotten how much nobody liked Jeff Kent, look at his line without any context, and wonder why he wasn't put in years ago.
  21. A latebreaking groundswell for Bartolo Colón is also within the 2015 realm of possibility.
  22. Very sorry to miss these games at my end.
  23. Thank you for including your why.
  24. OK, then, who is the Tom Seaver of US presidents?
