  1. Mandatory workout coming before the World Series. Who wants to make sure Harvey gets up on time?
  2. I thought it was coach/trainer types helping him out... though not doing much better than him, whoever they were.
  3. He looked awful. In fairness, I can't imagine I'd do much better. I'd guess you have to build up some massive pressure inside to blow that cork.
  4. I just imagined the cameraman getting bored with the shot of Jeff Wilpon unable to open the bottle, and wanting to pan away, and the director yelling in his ear, "NO, this is great TV! Stay with this shot as long as it takes!"
  5. Nats, meanwhile, have interviewed two ex-Met infielders from different eras: Ron Gardenhire and Andy Green.
  6. Suitable for framing. [fimg=700:vjwik9ay]https://metsinpeace.files.wordpress.com/2015/10/murph-o-matic.jpg[/fimg:vjwik9ay]
  7. Assignment for Zvon: a photo of Daniel's back with "MURPHY" replaced by "OCTOBER." Requiscat in pace, Kong-in-Law.
  8. And Murphy and Cuddy and Dilson and Montero. Heck, Matz too.
  9. For the Blue Jays, I know R.A. Dickey, of course, and I'm familiar with Tulowitski. I don't think I can name any other Blue Jays. The Jays have something like the three most devastating right-handed hitters in the American League. You'll know enough about them soon enough, but they are: Josh Donaldson (3b): .297 / .371 / .568 // .939 Jose Bautista (rf): .250 / .377 / .536 // .913 Edwin Encarnacion(dh): .277 / .372 / .557 // .929 Among the three of them, they somehow drove in 348 runs. And there's gonna be little of that omygawdwherearewegonnaplayourDH?! nonsense you get all the time around this time of year. Encarnacion will slot in nicely at first without taking a particularly good bat (Justin Smoak, late of the Mariners) out of the lineup. It's enough to make Terry think about using Colon instead of Matz in Game Four.
  10. I certainly didn't mean to suggest that that winter "produced" a league champion. Obviously, that would be silly. It's all part of a process, including what came before and what would follow. I only meant to say that it launched one. As in, that was the chapter immediately preceding into the season.
  11. Sandy Alderson, soaking it all in.
  12. Baseball was that easy for a few weeks back in August. The main difference is that it's Murphy who's walking on the clouds now instead of Cespedes. Yeah, the Cubs are a different level of competition, but they were tearing down the Nats back then and that isn't nothing. They may not be this good, but they may be something like this good, with a pitching staff that keeps them in the game almost every night. Three devastating sluggers in the Jays' lineup, but Schwarber/Bryant/Rizzo is pretty alarming themselves and the Mets' pitchers held two of those three mostly in check.
  13. Looking at it again, I think that was a legit strike. I had thought the Mets got generous call there, but that was strike three.
  14. I'm not sure Reynolds would be the victim of such a comeuppance. They Mets still need a backup shortstop and it's an open question whether Johnson or Uribe qualifies to Terry's satisfaction.
  15. I was thinking he'd land with the Rays.
  16. Not too long ago, i was like the second most reliable reliever on the staff. I was getting eighth innings in close games! And then they got Clippard. And I was getting seventh innings. And then they got Reed. And I was getting... innings. But, you know, they were innings! Now, in the post-season, we've booted two of our starters to the bullpen, and that's just like getting two more experienced relievers to bump ol' Hansel down again. Dang. I don't know who I've got to give my heart to in order to get into a game again. An inning! An out! A batter! A pitch! Something, Terry!! And then I realize that I should be happy I'm not Erik Goeddel, who fell to the wrong side of the bubble, despite similar credentials. I will find my way back to viability again, for I am Hansel, and I have left a trail of crumbs.
  17. Don Hahn played seven World Series games for the Mets. Amazin'.
  18. Going into a winner-take-all game, at home, with Greinke on the mound, and then getting sunk by the Mets. Getting yelled at by at least two of his players during the game. That's not necessarily the way you wanna go out. The Mets have really left a trail of human wreckage in their wake this season with each of the NL East opponents throwing up their hands and turning over their team or their management at one level or another, and the Dodgers perhaps looking at a complete overhaul. It's good to see the Cubs go down with grace.
  19. You went there. I can't believe you went there.
  20. I obviously disagree that last winter produced another mediocre, flawed Mets team. It certainly produced an embarrassing whine-fest over tempests in teapots. At least, I was sort of hoping they would be seen as such with the benefit of perspective from this lofty perch. I mean, crying over the scoreboard press release?
  21. I think they might make a bullpen swapout after the ALCS plays out, perhaps depending on the makeup of the opponent. The Jays' three biggest bats (by far) are all right-handed, so the need for Gilmartin is perhaps lessened.
  22. Gwreck wrote: I don't get the Niuewenhuis love. He's not a good hitter. I love a lot of people who aren't good hitters (my mother, for instance, is hopeless against lefties), but Nieuwenhuis has done a lot of good hitting. As disastrous as his first half was this season, he led the team in slugging in 2014. That's not nothing. He also brings good defense and baserunning.
  23. They could just as easily put Nieuwie in the outfield and use Cespedes for a game or two at DH if necessary.
