Brandon will take it right soon enough. But I'm all for putting short-timers in the way of prospects instead of handing them jobs. Met prospects who will surely debut in 2015: Nimmo, Reynolds, Cecchini, Walters, Smoker.

Well, they're better players, for whom smashing square pegs into round holes is a valid, if clumsy, way to make a fit. But, if he's to take the Nieuwenhuis role, he fits in there more or less, doesn't he?

Took the hill Opening Day 2014 against Stephen Strassburg. Performed passably, but tired in the seventh, giving up an RBI double to Anthony Rendon, who came around to score the tying run against the Mets bullpen. The Mets bullpen ultimately coughed it up in extra innings, one of only two Opening Day losses in the last ten for the Flushings.

With you and Lutzie (if he gets re-upped, Las Vegas will be looking like a real reform school for failed NBL talent. True. I post under distraction.

OK, I jumped back for the dress. And perhaps my fatigue with hey-look-he's-fat headlines. Still like DN lettering.

Oh, I've detected on social media a growing fissure in the culture wars where Pete still has a supportive place in the heart of the Obama's ruining this country/stop coming for my guns/get your head out of the sand/I remember when we had a real president faction/factions.

Was it Spitty who sat next to Kari Anne during his debut or some such? Way too cherubic a face for his demonic beard thing.

Not to add insult to injury, but hasn't Rose also earned something of a de facto ban from post-season pre- and post-game shows?

metsmarathon wrote: so, silly question. have they ever voted anybody into the hall based on their integrity, sportsmanship, or character? 100%? Of course not. I imagine it's made a difference (one way or the other) in a handful of otherwise borderline cases, though. I also imagine it's made a difference in the ultimate vote total of otherwise not-borderline cases, if that matters.

Post here, folks!

I like this thread.

I agree wholeheartedly with both those statements. Well said by Manfred or whoever writes for him.

I tend to grab, on the cheap ($1-3), books about Mets figures even if the marketing and design is linked to their association with another team. If I only get one Metly chapter, it can fill in some spaces. If it's got enough accounts and characters, it can trump a whole book about Gary Carter telling me how his attitude and attention to character are just the neatest. I make no apologies. I probably deserve a groin kick or two anyhow, but... .

See, now, there's two ways of reading "not just," and my way was the less authentic reading. You're right. In fact, I may have dyslexically read "not just" as "just not." My apologies for the mis-reading, Chuck.

Especially as unsourced reports rolled out last year that the Mets were "really" aiming for 2016 were taken as straight-from-the-mouth-of-Fred. The now-or-later dichotomy is silly. Organizations can and do strive for both, to different degrees.

And for whatever it's worth, Cuddyer seems to have mentioned Jeff Wilpon most specifically when talking about bringing his intentions to the team. One could conclude, if one were inclined, that Alderson wasn't exactly driving the bargain on the other side of the table when the buyout was negotiated.

I see what he's getting at. On the other hand, I admire Theo Epstein for coming up with a very creative contract that seems to be uniquely advantageous for both the Cubs (who get him at a rate below what other teams were offering) and Heyward, who gets two opt-out years if he outplays his salary, which he should if he stays healthy.

News not only outlines their letters to stand out, but their photo edges too. Newsday is so desperate to avoid this that, when confronted with a light background for their white letters, instead opts for a light drop shadow. Get out of here with that.

The data seems to suggest the defense has fallen off meaningfully the last two years. They almost all lose weaponized defense before they hit free agency age. It's a tough thing to go shopping for.

Whose turn is it to pummel batmag?

The thing about Cespedes and center field is that you only have to hold your breath for two years. Can you do that? After that, he can move over and take Granderson's spot in right. The other option, of course, is trading Granderson, which may net you something after a good year, as expensive as his contract is.
