Are they doing a manager search or do they intend to ride out the season with the interim? I imagine they hope to open the new ballpark with one of their nineties heroes installed as the manager — if not Chipper Jones, then Mark Lemke or Javy Lopez or Bret Boone or somebody. Maybe they bring Walt Weiss over from the Rockies or something.

Which is part of why I'm dubious. It's a reality, though, that historically, teams like to get fake community buy-in, allowing the fans to vote for a new name, but securing the outcome of the vote by giving them a ballot full of five stupid names plus the one the owners really want.

Well, it has a history. They have, like, eight carousels. But only one or two of them can truly be called classics. And even those, while having the imprint of the master carver shops*, aren't masterpieces. If they truly want to honor carousel horses, a better name for the team would be the Painted Ponies. I tend to question the authenticity of that Rubin account. Anybody have a link? _________________ *There were three master carving shops whose works were broadly distributed in the US during the golden age of carousels: Dentzel, Herschell, and Philadelphia Toboggan Company. There were also lesser masters (like Illioans) whose work never caught on and you can barely assemble enough surviving horses for a single carousel.

"Big Sexy" ain't no lie.

Good IGT, folks.

I'm somewhat heartened to hear Wright considered himself ready to go and reacted negatively on the field when told he was being scratched. Hopefully, that means a DL trip isn't imminent or anything. He should have had Harvey argue him back into the lineup.

It's still spring training for me.

Looks like Peter Sullivan got in there also. But WHERE is Big Mets Guy?

I LIKE the concept though. Very meta.

Donald Trump is changing the way we all talk. It's amazing. It truly is.

As noted, with the exception of a 12-10 loss to El Paso earlier in the week, the pitching is really beginning to setlle in, with Below finding himself, and Rafel Montero being named the Pitcher of the Week. Between roster shuffling and Gavin Cecchini being not quite ready to activate, the team went into tonight's game with only a three-man bench. No matter, as they won 8-5. Those numbers you see below don't include tonight's game, but Ty Kelly (clearly a decendent of both Ty Cobb and King Kelly), netted three hits, including two doubles, UPPING his average to .413. Is this card about the man, or about the neck tats?

Mets pick a first-place battle and smoking hot rivalry to schedule a Bark at the Park game. WOOF! Can I get in free? WOOF-WOOF! Gio Gonzalez comes to town at 2-1, 1.93, but the Mets proved tonight they don't need Daniel Murphy to take down an ace. Bartolo Colon (3-2, 3.53) stands up for the good guys. He's got 221 pelts on the wall, and Gio Gonzalez's is as good a candidate for the 222nd as any.

Gonzalez found out by getting an e-mail from the team's travel agency?! And Willie Randolph was mistreated?

I'm Matt Reynolds, Met #1014. I'm here to [crossout]be a badass[/crossout] strike out meekly.

Gilly gets the 'spected demotion. Here's to getting out of the unprofitable 13-man pitching staff business. Welcome aboard to the eventual Met #1014. Jim Joyce's shrieking strike calls can be heard from space.

Former Nats on the Mets include: left-handed specialist Jerry Blevins and shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera, who came mid-season 2014 and gave them as little as they deserved. Former Expos include Bartolo Colón, the last active Montreal Major League ballplayer. Beyond the roster, pitching coach Dan Warthen Expo'd back from 1975 to 1977. Bullpen coach Ricky Bones coached for the organization back when they were transitioning from Expodom to Nattitude. Bullpen catcher Eric Langill was originally drafted by the Expos and played in their system.
