That's a mug that's begging for a nickname like "Popeye," no?

I mean, I can't possibly do better than last year, but I spent all of last year riding sidesaddle to another guy. You want to know how to get 50+ saves? Work with dudes like me who give you 50+ opportunities. The psychological angle is that was the eighth inning. Less pressure. Less stress on my manhood. Whateves. I'm the man. Eighth inning. Ninth inning. Fourteenth inning. I am the man. But I can't possibly do better than last year. Can I? Yeah, that's definitely the key.

Harvey's workday ends with four runs (two earned) in three and a third. Flaming hot Tim Tebow just singled to center. Maybe he's going to be like Pete Rose—a single's hitter with a slugger's build.

Who cares about Harvey? SECOND STRAIGHT HIT FOR TEBOW!!

A leadoff double by Commissioner Gordon, moves over on an Ichiro groundout, and scores on a J.T. Realmuto sacrifice fly. Harvey yields first blood.

The Tebow thingie continues. Puerto Rico looks motivated. Will be nice to get our Israelites back in camp.

Look, the whole "If d'Arnaud doesn't work out, we've got another answer right behind him in Plawecki" logic had it's flaws from the start. We catching prospects are tough calls. We mature when we mature. We've got to take the lion's share of the physical rigors of this game. We've got to be responsible for the pitches thrown by twelve or more different pitchers who could have different stuff working on any given day, we've got to crouch, we've got to stop 102-mile-an-hour fastballs and 55-foot curveballs from bouncing to the backstop, and we've got to do all that while being a useful offensive force. Some guys can only make one adjustment at a time. Some guys ... well, John Gibbons ... . That's why me and Travis are buds. We're not fighting for the same job—we're trying to get over the same humps. Make the same adjustments. If we can get that licked, we'll both stick, somewhere. So, how many humps will I clear in 2017? Jay Bruce saw his first action at first today, handing two putouts and one assist without worries over the first four innings. Yoenis Céspedes accounted for all the scoring as the Mets won, 2-1 behind four strong innings by Jacob deGrom. Reed, Cory Burns (a St. Lucie floater), Blevins, Smoker, and the already-farmed-out Corey Taylor each took an inning to bring the game home bucket brigade style.

Jared Diamond comes home with a fascinating scoop on the shadowy, underground world of independent batting coaches and the pupils they rescued from obcsurity and helped turn into All Stars.

I'll take the layup. #2: Preston Wilson.

Worth noting that he's out of options, so I think the Mets are going to give him every chance to take Erik Goeddel's lunch.

Little-known fact: Our national parks are crawling with leprechauns.

He's still probably a pretty good threat to be the next debutante. I'd put Rowen first, followed by Gorzelanny, Sewald, Wilk, Trajeiron, Carillo, and Becerra.

Mets still hanging on to all their catchers. Xorge Carillo should be back from the WBC by now, following Mexico's 1-2 opening round, but still he's hanging in there. Nice to see Israel Ty Kelly sticking around, too. How's your faith doing in Travis d'Arnaud? Is he coming along too slaud? Are you afraid he'll never graud? Are you afraid Kevin Plawecki will never outhit Mike Bielecki? Or perhaps Dave Dravecky? Or Ray Sadecki? I'm Tomás Nido and I'm trying to offer you a third way. For I am the Florida State League batting average champ. And it wasn't particularly close. In a league where only two guys hit .300, I hit .320 and the next guy hit .305. But what's that worth? I dunno. d'Araud was a minor league big shot at one point and so was Plawecki. Guys come around as big leaguers when they come around. So I'm trying not to let it get to my head. But perhaps it's getting to your head. What's my season going to look like? And hey, Kevin McGowan? I'm still in camp. I didn't say if I liked it.

On the Mets side of things, Terry seems determined to bat Céspedes out of the three hole. On the Braves side, some sites project Garcia as the #2 hitter, thus looking to Phillips to show some old-guy skills and hit in the middle of the lineup, but he's batted second the last few games. Also some hinting that Swanson will bat ahead of Flowers, but that's just brand loyalty talkin'. Kevin McGowan did a fist pump when he realized he got is Edge of 17 thread in before getting cut.

I'm going to repeat. I was called up on the same day Jacob deGrom. I was, in fact, the higher rated prospect (if not the guy having the better season) at the time. That, as they say, was then. Now he's a grizzled vet, and I'm still a guy on the verge. On the verge of what? On the verge of refinding my vaunted control? On the verge of a new life as a long reliever? On the verge of a post-baseball career? I don't rightly know. And that's why I started this thread. I thought you might know. I have a theory. I think 50-Cent cursed the number 50. We all laughed at him for his shitty pitch, and he quickly and impetuously doomed all who wear that number for the Mets to chronic wildness. No? Then what's your theory? Help me out, because my time is short to fix this thing I call a Mets career. On the other hand, not a popular guy for predictions.

The 2017 Marlins take it on the chin, falling to the Mets, 6-4. The New York Tebows even their record at 9-9, whilst Billy Joel's favorite team falls to 4-9.
