  1. It's like the team is at a funeral today. I guess that's not to be unexpected. I never got the idea a whole lot of his teammates (or perhaps any of them) liked him much, but seeing a guy fall from the level he was at to this has to be a blow to anybody's sense of their mortality.
  2. Ship. Not very righted.
  3. Considering the types of phone calls that Sandy Alderson is making right now, what trades pop to mind when you think of problem-swapping deals? I feel like they happen regularly enough, but the only ones that jump to mind are Mel Rojas for Bobby Bonilla II, and Rey Ordóñez for Russ Johnson. I suppose Carl Everett for John Hudek might qualify, even though neither one of them were making bank. Maybe Kaz Matsui for Eli Marrero too.

Daily News reporting that (1) this came after Hatt Marvey refused a minor league assignment and (2) that Sandy Alderson described it as "the end of an era," which doesn't suggest they're expecting him to reconsider the minor league idea if he goes through waivers. OE: What ABNS said.

Big opportunities for the local papers to clinch the 2018 Tabloid Cover Challenge tomorrow morning.

He may end up in the Mets minors yet. I'm guessing he won't, but we'll see.
  7. The party in the Firefly clubhouse is short-lived, however, as infielder Walter Rasquin draws a 50 game suspension for using methamphetamines.

    Harvey. It happened. [fimg=500:3u2oy97f]http://cdn1.thecomeback.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/491181500-832x447.jpg[/fimg:3u2oy97f]
  9. Painting the town red with Adriana Lima and Anne V is one thing, but raising the roof with Tracy Morgan and Phil Collins is just a bridge too far from where I sit. A lot of Mets fans are children for Pete's sake.
  10. I'd probably use Nimmo in center and Conforto on a corner on such occasions, but a step forward is a step forward.
  11. Getting back to the point above ... maybe one effect of the thoracic outlet surgery is a lack of stamina. In his last outing, Harvey got his first four batters before blowing up. The turn before that, he faced four batters, and got three of them with the fourth reaching on a double. While they are stretching their other relievers, maybe they need to compress him until he builds up a pattern of success.
  12. Blake Tiberi knows how to celebrate. [tweet:1f57ljpz] [/tweet:1f57ljpz]
  13. It doesn't really cost them anything to release him. You try to make things work until you don't.
  14. Below the bench glue slathered on Nimmo's ass? Below the mental state of Matz? Below the DNR status of Matt Harvey's career? Below playing escort for the Braves coming out ball? Below the reality that the team has been faking it in the leadoff spot since 2012?
  15. You went on the wrong night. The Teeb hit a three-run homer last night in the Ponies 10-6 win over New Hampsha. Struck out his other three trips, though. Alonso must have set some kind of record during the game. He was hit by a pitch THREE times.
  16. This is awesome! Cody Asche! Vance Worley! Can Ben Revere seriously be far behind?! Obama-era Phillies reunion in Vegas! 17. If I was Harvey, I'd want to stay out of the hitting environment of Vegas. But yeah, if I was the Mets, I might want to keep him out of the Vegas environment of Vegas.
  18. No, he can refuse an assignment. If I was to go down, I'd insist on going to Binghamton instead of Las Vegas.
  19. Seems like, if this bullpenny thing is to continue, they should be looking at shorter stints.
  20. That pretty much guarantees that José Reyes gets to retire as the active steal leader. Ichiro was five behind him and nobody else is within 100. Active triples leader too.
  21. Insert Nimmo. Nimmo gets on base. Hey, I've got an idea!
  22. And yes, after six runs in 4 2/3 innings, Vargas' ERA did go down.
  23. FFS, guys. You're hitting like suckers.
