  1. Seems like Gonzalez, Bautista, Reyes, and Hanley might exceed our quotient on stars from Obama's first term. If they are interested in Hanley, I would think it would be to replace Reyes, rather than in addition to him. And yeah, that would be at a cut salary.
  2. [fimg=600:1tc6fhum]https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/1f/Bundesstra%C3%9Fe_450_number.svg/1280px-Bundesstra%C3%9Fe_450_number.svg.png[/fimg:1tc6fhum]
  3. It's almost exclusively the literature for me. The library building. I've tried to get all the media guides. (Don't ask about the prices on thee ones from the Willard Mullin era.) And then I like to try and get all memoirs from guys who played with the Mets. Even nominal figures, like Richie Ashburn, who may devote less than a chapter to his Mets tenure. Beyond that, I try and collect all the books about Mets figures. But there are about 100 gifty-type books along the lines of The Wit and Wisdom of Yogi Berra, most of them redundant, and few of them concerned with distinguishing truth from legend. But some of the funner stuff can be the lightweight mythmaking stuff, like A Boys Scout's Guide to Tom Seaver, or that shitty DiGiornio's Mets comic book. I've started and failed to catalog it all at least three times. And the proliferation of fan-written, vanity-press stuff can be depressing for a completionist, because some bloggers-turned-book-authors are great, but some are real tools.
  4. I also think he looks surprisingly comfortable against lefties. Yeah, there'll probably be a platoon differential at the end of the season, and he seems to get more swings and misses against southpaws, but his main weapon — his pitch recognition, doesn't seem affected at all. And he doesn't step in the bucket against curves from lefties. In fact, he has the added advantage of some of those curves bouncing off his elbow protector.
  5. Here are the whole league's top ten on-base percentage guys. 1) Trout, M, LAA: .443 2) Betts, M, BOS: .436 3) Freeman, F, ATL: .424 4) Bryant, K, CHC: .418 5) Robertson, D, TB: .417 6) Belt, B, SF: .416 T7) Judge, A, NYY: .412 T7) Markakis, N, ATL: .412 9) Machado, M, BAL: .409 10) Arenado, N, COL: .407 Brandon Nimmo, who (for maddening reasons — It's not like he's been hurt) doesn't have enough plate appearances to qualify, is at .450. FOUR FITTY!
  6. Paul Sewald, despite pitching more or less successfully most of the year, is now 0-9 on his career. This places him in a category unto himself, with the next most desperate winless pitcher in team history at 0-5. I don't want Mickey to bend over backwards to place him strategically winning positions or nothing, but his teammates better start conspiring to win one for him before something pops in his elbow or thoracic outlet and sends him into the night with such a tilted ledger.
  7. Come on back from the ledge for a spell. [youtube:2njt7u0v]PNaEM54nfK4[/youtube:2njt7u0v]
  8. Yeah, wow, even Bruce hits today.
  9. Eight consecutive times on base by Nim. Eight!
  10. Sucks to see him vanish after six.
  11. Or Bautista could get picked off.
  12. Rosario could reach and set up Nimmo with the bases loaded.
  13. Yeah, the long fly that Cain hit was the only mistake I saw. And the Mets getting to the vaunted Brew bullpen in Game One. Big.
  14. I think the Mets pen is as good as any, last night included.
  15. Five-pitch inning for Matz. This is looking like it could be a game, guys.

Roasrio held up to make sure the ball would clear the RF and then the ball came off the wall and right back to Yelich. I just mean to confess that I was feeling desperate. Good on the Mets for playing it safe and cashing in.
  17. And even when something good almost but doesn't quite happen. Funny. Yellich looks weird in a Brewer uniform and in right field.
  18. Drooby gets the knockout punch.
  19. 1. I realize there are no outs, but I'd've sent Rosario. 2. Can we get a ruling on a nickname for Nimmo. I'm thinking The Destroyer or something.
  20. A Matz game where the Mets don't fall behind early. I'M PUMPED!
  21. Jason Kipnis so far: .180 / .269 / .258 // .527 with one homer through 202 plate appearances. A -0.7 WAR. What's incredible is that 13 batters have a worse WAR.
  22. I don't know that I've ever seen a Mets catcher return the ball to his pitcher as quickly and aggressively as Mesaraco. (Maybe Grote?) You want something to cut game times? Get a whole lot more of Mesoraco.
  23. Kevin Plawecki and Hansel Robles began their rehab assignments with Las Vegas last night. Plaw caught and went 1-3 with a two-run homer in the 51s 4-3 victory, yielding to Johnny Monell after five innings. Robles did less well, striking out two in his single inning of work, but giving up three hits and a walk.
