  1. One easy, if fuzzy, way to do it is to take the projections for all his players, add them up, and if the batters, and, as many WAR as the team's batters are above or below their projections, prorated for the point in the season they're at, credit to the pitching coach. Yeah, there isn't a lot of blame you can put on him if a young healthy guy gets hurt, but as these likelihoods are factored into most projection models, such anecdotal occurrences should get increasingly canceled out, the more data you have, and Davis is a guy who has built up a lot of data. You can even retroactively give a a coach long-term credit, only projecting the player from the point at which he joined the coach. So if a player get's 2.5 WAR in seasons A, B, and C. You not only continue measuring the coach through season D based on the modest projections of A, B, and C, but if the player gets 4.5 WAR in season D, creating new expectations for seasons E and F, it doesn't matter, because those new expectations are adjusted based on data from the player's time with the coach, so as you go forward, the expectations from seasons D, E, and F would all be based on the trajectory established during seasons A, B, and C. That doesn't make as much sense as I want it to, does it?
  2. I know the Major League record for most consecutive games with a home run is eight. Can't find the Mets team record. Polar Bear is pretty locked in! The Mets record belongs to Daniel Murphy, who homered in six consecutive games, https://www.mlb.com/video/murphy-sets-postseason-hr-record-c524293383https://www.mlb.com/video/murphy-sets-postseason-hr-record-c524293383>all in the post-season.
  3. The Brewers beat the Bucs 8-3, so they keep pace with the Mets, but if Arizona, currently up 4-0 over Philadelphia, finishes the job, the Mets will be within a half game of the Phils, and that would mean within a half game of both the Phillies and the Brewers — in other words, within a half game of that second Wild Card slot. As much as I'm enjoying the raucous LFGM crowds of the last few days, the online exchanges I've had suggest that Phillies fans currently hate their team (the bullpen drives them nuts, and Gabe Kapler, whose firing they frequently demand in the middle of a game, is out of his depth), as do the Nationals fans (the bullpen drives them nuts and the team let Bryce Harper walk this past winter and might well let Anthony Rendon walk this next winter). Braves fans don't hate their team, but it's never exactly been a mad love affair down there either. Folks are just there to do the chop thing.
  4. That's St. Louis' fifth loss in a row, dropping them, the Mets, and the Brewers into a three-way virtual tie, only one game behind Philadelphia for the second Wild Card spot. The Mets have the better run differential than those three other teams. Tonight's rooting interests: Pirates over the Brewers (this is a tough one, as the Bucs are already down 5-0 and haven't gotten a hit through the first two innings. D-Backs over Phillies (rooting for Vargas to get blown over like a card castle under a fan) Orioles over the Yankees (just because)
  5. Hopefully, the Mets won't need an extra starter for a while. Transactions, 8/6 [td90]Direction[/td90][td90]GOING[/td90][td90]Transaction[/td90][td90]Demoted To Syracuse[/td90][th]Position Group[/th][th]=#FF40BF]Starting Pitcher[/th][td90][/td90][td90][/td90][td90]Name[/td90][td90]Walker Lockett https://metsrostercentral.files.wordpress.com/2019/07/us-flag.png>[/td90][td90]DoB[/td90][td90]5/3/94[/td90][td90]B/T[/td90][td90]R/R[/td90]
  6. You can cross out Lucroy, who has signed with the Cubsy-Ubsies.
  7. The Cards have designated lefty Adalberto Mejia for assignment. Terrific last year. Horrific this year. The Nats have similarly cashiered Kyle Barraclough.
  8. Good Fake Bat-Villains The Grandmaster: Meticulously schemes against Gotham City and Bat-Man, carefully getting all his pieces in place, anticipating several moves ahead, before swooping in for the checkmate. Cliffhanger: Batman is forced to play a game of chess against his own Bat-Computer, with himself, Robin, Commissioner Gordon and Chief O'Hara as pieces! Proposed Actors: Russell Johnson, Howard Keel. The Cereal Killer: So hopped-up on Sugar-Snaps, the Cereal Killer makes Frank Gorshin look positively somnambulent, as he poisons the breakfasts of several Gotham VIPs, threatening global stability as Gotham is about to host The World Meeting of Bankers, for whom skipping breakfast just isn't an option. Cliffhanger: Smothered in a three-story box of Toasty Oats, lined with a sealed bag, and denuded of their signature utility belts, Bat-Man and Robin's only hope of getting out before suffocating is to find the massive, secret prize and utilize it in their escape! Can they track the CK to his lair from the address on the giant proof-of-purchase seal before breakfast is served all across the city?!! Proposed Actors: Burt Lahr, Earnest Borgnine. The Vixen: Dressed like a she-fox by day, she glams herself up and goes undercover a night, seducing Gotham's wealthiest and most gullible, who find her charms irresistible. Once she has them alone, she sprays them with a hypnotic foxy-toxin, which not only renders her marks unconscious, they wake up thinking that they've had a wonderful evening, and feel irresistably compelled to send her their most prized possession as an affectionate gift. One each day until the spray wears off. Cliffhanger: After accepting a date with the mysterious and alluring Ms. Foxcroft, Bruce Wayne leaves Alfred and Robin stunned when he attempts to mail the Bat-Mobile to her hotel. This will not only cost them a key part of their arsenal, but blow their covers as well. Is Bruce bluffing, or has he gone batty?! Proposed Actors: Kim Novak, Sofia Loren (in which case, her civilian name would be "Signorina Volpe.")
  9. Maybe the whole Jed Lowrie thing is a money-skimming scheme. >>> "Hey, Jed. We'd like to offer you a contract." >>> >>> "I'm flattered, but I'm done. My legs are shot." >>> "And that's a fact that the press will learn about just as soon as Spring Training rolls around." >>> >>> "I'm not sure what you're getting at" >>> "You go down with an 'injury' as camp opens. You collect your full pay over the year, but invest 60% of it in Sterling Equities properties. The rest, you pocket. For nothing." >>> >>> "I don't get it. You're hoping to use me to steal from yourself so I can buy shit back from you at 60 cents on the dollar?" >>> "Well, we tend to insure big contracts around here, Jed."
  10. That's some salad. I hadn't realized that CBS had rebooted Room 222.
  11. I never felt so average before.
  12. Raquel Welch and Ratso Rizzo? I missed more Bat-villains than I realize.
  13. And seeing how the Mets are done with the Marlins until September 23, Curtis Granderson is perfectly welcome to pick up that gauntlet and go on a tear.
  14. Yeah, that one too. The Dodgers are starting somebody named "Dustin May." I have no idea who that is, but I was always taught that dust in May meant it would be a hard year for the crops.
  15. =kcmets post_id=18037 time=1565202671 user_id=53] This SHaMs Turnaround '19 is just surreal. I hope we never wake up.
  16. Just as I'm thinking "They should have left Guillorme in to play second and moved Hechy to third," Frazier shuts my filthy mouth.
  17. Braves up 6-0 over the Twins after three. The only other day game concerning the Mets is the Nats at the Giants, which starts at 3:45 EST. There's no bad outcome for that one, but a Giants win is certainly preferable.
  18. Mid-game reports create extra work! 20. Guillorme gets a double on Tuesday, and Altherr gets a double on Wednesday. Miami pitchers are helping save some careers here.
  21. All the righthanders and none of whom are trusted more than Wilson.
  22. Going back to the Wilson Well.
  23. Yabbut, I don't think the bats are done. Always a delight to see the matching tee-shirts of the day-camp kids.
  24. As Alonso's pace rises again above the Foster Line, he has entered his rookie season into the Mets' top ten all-time on alarming date of August 7. The men he shares this list with? Royalty. Today's homer also puts his pace back ahead of Aaron Judge's all-time rookie record. Also, Michael Conforto has upped his pace to project to the top-20 homeriest Met seasons ever.
