Riggleman is the Rodney Dangerfield of the MLB dugout, though, isn't he?

Maybe, but how he handles himself isn't.

Well, Regan and Bones stepped midseason out of organizational jobs, so I hope they aren't tossed overboard for filling in on a regime that was already on ice (and actually being part of the almost-turnaround). Non-field coaches Jeremy Accardo and Luis Rojas also came out of the organization.

deGrom wasn't the only ace he had. [FIMG=500]https://miro.medium.com/max/1108/1*WI1xwrKUvc0URD2oJIhNJg.png[/FIMG]

Always seemed to be playing the long game, even as time was growing short. To the extent that I could sense a philosophy in how he deployed his players, he seemed more committed to deploying them so as to best fuel their development, rather than to put that aside for the moment in order to take a winnable game. You know, since maybe Dallas Green, the Mets have always had managers who were impressively fit for their age bracket. Jerry was probably the softest of the lot, and he wasn't really soft.

Terry Collins and Jerry Manuel and Art Howe weren't experienced?

Damn it, now I want John Madden and anybody else is going to be a disappointment.

Somehow went 11-1 out of the box in 2018. He sure looked good when the Mets were winning, but even then, if you looked closer, a lot of head-scratching philosophical strangeness. Guilty of a batting-out-of-order violation, something that occurs about as often as a no-hitter. The seventeenth Mets manager, but only the sixth to go out with a winning record.

I saw plenty of movement on his slider. People chased it when it was two feet outside. To my eyes it was his fastball that was getting crushed. I agree about the changeup.

Met fans' assholes would explode if Beltran got the job. I'm all for it.

He's done a lot of dogs in the 21st Century. Even before. #TheFan

Mercy.

The deal suggested above is Syndergaard, Nimmo, and Smith for Betts Obviously he's worth more if an extension is negotiated before the deal is consummated, but that wasn't on the table either.

Late Show field producer Jake Plunkett wears ... a Met hat rendered in Yankee colors?

He could. That could totally happen. Or theoretically, many deep flies that didn't get out last year, would get out this year. But that's not what we're talking about.

That wouldn't be the same way, now, would it?

=Ceetar post_id=23528 time=1570040149 user_id=102]Which is exactly why Diaz is getting a bit of a raw deal perhaps, as he SHOULD HAVE been better than that, because players with those numbers almost always are. Hell, if you're going to use WPA like that, you can almost bank on two more wins for the 2020 Mets off of Diaz being more like the better predictor in fWAR.

=Centerfield post_id=23519 time=1570029536 user_id=65]I've heard this before that since closers are involved with high-leverage runs that WAR is not a great measure of their value.]

I liked it. I wish they closed the circle and returned him to his own world, and maybe to his own music. But I couldn't help the joy of hearing the songs like they were new, with new arrangements — sometimes stripped down as demos, sometimes turned into full assault punk. His "Help!" is authentic because like John (or Kurt Cobain, for that matter), he was having a breakdown in plain sight of the world, and they just wanted more. The funny thing is how John-poor the film was. The music is about 70% Paul, 15% George, and 15% John. They also stick largely to the big singles, when I could have used a "Dear Prudence" or a "Within Without You." I got the idea that they had more trouble securing John's songs, but that can't be right, as the songs all remain Lennon-McCartney compositions, controlled by the same publisher. But hey, even the title song was surprisingly fresh. My wife thought she utterly hated that song, and I've always been, like, "No, Baby, it's just been so overexposed you can't hear it anymore." And she turned to me this time and said, "You're right, it is pretty good." Apart from that, please forgive any prejudice I may have against latter-day pop music, but Ed Sheeran is ... not really an asset to the film. McKinnon was typically terrific, though, and I totally surrendered to the void when we got to that secret scene.

I guess that, if Schaefer gave out a Mets Rookie of the Month Award, Alonso would have had a clean sweep. fWAR by Mets Rookies in 2019 1) Peter Alonso: 4.8 2) Luis Guillorme: 0.2 3) Chris Mazza: 0.1 4) Drew Gagnon: 0.1 5) Brooks Pounders: 0.0 6) Daniel Zamora: -0.1 7) Ryan O'Rourke: -0.1 8) Sam Haggerty: -0.1 9) Stephen Nogosek: -0.1 10) Walker Lockett: -0.1 11) Jacob Rhame: -0.2 12) Tim Peterson: -0.2 13) Tomas Nido: -0.5 14) Tyler Bashlor: -0.6 Put another way, of all the fWAR put up by Mets rookies, 150% of it belonged to Pete Alonso.

I've been to DC several times but always managed to miss Ben's Chili. Am I missing anything good? It's chili. It's good and greasy but not too greasy. You won't feel duped but neither will it change your life. It's just, like, the last black thing the gentrification of DC has left standing so its sentimental value is enormous. Ben Ali, I think, was from an Indian family, but he grew up in the Caribbean and went to Howard U., and his restaurant is the sole remnant of what DC formerly called "Black Broadway" down on U Street. Obviously, you'll get better fare at the U Street location, but the ballpark stuff isn't a great dropoff from there and it's reasonably priced with fast lines. Bring your cholesterol pills.

I had figured Joe Pesci was living in a nursing home with Gene Hackman and Jack Nicholson.

I vote no. Among other things, that's a lot of years (two of Syndergaard, three of Nimmo, and five of Smitty) for one year of Betts.

Racially problematic hazing?
