1. I was born to root for the KIA Tigers. Their logo seems like it hasn't been improved upon since 1975, and frankly, neither have I.
2. That might be an early Mizuno logo?
3. Trying to find out the pitch count for Keough's 14-inning marathon start, I was surprised to find out that it wasn't that unique. Langford, Norris and McCatty each had a 14-inning start of their own, also. Kingman, amazingly, was the only guy to avoid the 14-inning club. While there are no official pitch count records, Norris later reported that he pulled his off with an economical 152 pitches. McCatty said he needed 207.
4. A heck of a young pitcher, despite never getting a lot of strikeouts, swallowed whole by the demands of BillyBall. I once saw him throw a 14-inning complete game victory in 1980. I would imagine it's the last time any starter went that long. I'm not sure what I was doing watching an Oakland/Toronto matchup, but I guess it was the national broadcast. Checking now and it seems that https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/TOR/TOR198005170.shtmlWOW, Dave Steib went 12 innings for Toronto also. Toronto's secondbaseman in that game, Dámaso García, sadly appeared in this thread two weeks ago.
5. I don't think you know what "undisputedly" means. It's not the Hall of Fame that you're shitting on.
6. You change the subject when confronted with information you don't like. That's not good. Clearly there is nothing undisputed about his status, and it doesn't serve the truth any good to pretend so.
7. Of course Bonds failed a test. He failed several. If you want to throw them out or question their viabilitiy or credibility, that's up to you. But this isn't a court of law here.
8. You can almost smell the corona coming off that right field crowd.
9. Before he was Shifty Schiff, he was The Crooning Congressman.
10. How can it be bullshit to state a preference? —Rob Gordon
11. Good use of "Travesty."
12. Dick/Richie Allen spent 14 years on the ballot getting between 3.7 and 18.9% of the vote. Many consider him to be statistically as good as anybody on the outside looking in. Apparently he's expressed a lot of regret in his post-playing days, leading to the weird turnaround where a lot of former teammates and coaches say, "He's not so bad, a lot of that is overblown," and Richie saying, "I was huge asshole." I'm not sure there has to be precedent, though. It's part of the explicit standard. To the extent that folks have taken the clause seriously, I imagine it's rarely been a difference-maker, but there are probably more cases of borderline guys whose widely admired character helped put them over the top than cases of borderline guys whose widely criticized character helped keep them out.
13. =DocTee post_id=36138 time=1588184060 user_id=85] Looks like whomever is seated in front of Reggie has a Rangers jersey and a Cubs cap?
14. That's two things I did not know. All-Star quipment snafus seemed to happen in at least one case a year back then. Here's a lumpy-looking Reggie Jackson wearing the home Mariners duds for the warmups and picture session in 1979. https://bapple2286.files.wordpress.com/2013/12/reggie-2.jpg> I believe his uni arrived in time for the game. Here, in the same game, is Pete Rose playing first base wearing a Phillies tee-shirt, as his jersey failed to make the trip. https://farm3.static.flickr.com/2200/2608739120_d16caa20e2_o.png> Everybody knows the real problem there isn't the firstbaseman's top, but the firstbaseman himself, as Keith Hernandez should have been playing first. And more famously, here's Johnny Callison wearing a Mets helmet for his 1964 ASG-winning homerun: https://www.inquirer.com/resizer/-HRDIDITJUJ-n_g7Mssqr4P0wic=/1200x0/center/middle/www.inquirer.com/resizer/M1e4rJXSFDQvK8ezsoHtGI8IKgg=/1200x0/center/middle/arc-anglerfish-arc2-prod-pmn.s3.amazonaws.com/public/V6WXNWG4Z5FDFFRI6PEKNKUW7I.jpg> https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Dw64OVJXQAUgR9j.jpg> What a small dude.
15. I was just trying to improve my record by continuing to call for things they've already done. That said, lowering the wall to put the pull-back back into play, while putting a handrail on top of the wall that makes it impossible to reach over and pull anything back, was counter-productive. Either pull the wall forward by at least 18" or push the handrail back at least 18". And put a pad of sorts on that rail. It's only a matter of time before a ball ricochets hard off of it and hits a retreating outfielder in the face.
16. Still, the integrity of the National And American Leagues as distinct entities, as diminished as it has been, has stood for most of baseball history, and I'd hate to dismiss it as arbitrary, even if it is, you know, kind of arbitrary.
17. Well, I'd certainly support your campaign for commissioner, but that's a lot of cat herding.
18. We need a supercut that's chronological but stitiches together scenes from multiple movies, where the flashback exposition scene from earlier years gets cut and placed in the year it belongs. I guess that would open with Hela and the flight of the valkyries. Actually, no, it would open with the Big Bang and the birth of the infinity stones.
19. It's true. Despondent Ivan should be the most universal of memes. https://metsrostercentral.files.wordpress.com/2020/04/ivancapinet.png>
20. Well, the Marvel sequence appears in Avengers, so maybe it just hadn't gotten going yet. Now let's see if and when Paramount disappears.
21. It needs some 'bone.
22. This really is a health question, and shouldn't really involve fan input, no?
23. It really shows the whole virtue of the whole why-don't-we-just-inject-lysol line of thinking, doesn't it.
24. I never get the "wear-and-tear on pitchers" argument. If they are worn down, but still throwing goose eggs, what gives? In fact, isn't seeing what gives the point? If the rosters are going to be expanded, more pitchers will be available to pitch more deeply, if necessary.
25. As far as I know, Marvel Studios is still a thing, and hasn't been fully subsumed into the Mouse, right? Because we've rewatched a few of the early MCU films (Iron Man, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger this week, and looking back, the Disney Plus downloads include the Paramount (early distribution partner) logo, but not the Marvel flickering pages sequence of the music cue that accompanied it? Have they been removed? Did I somehow sleep through them? Or did those elements not yet appear until later? Also, The Incredible Hulk apparently isn't on the Disney Plus platform.
