  1. So, it ends with BVW throwing Jeff Wilpon under a tremendous bus. Except that can't be the end, at all. I mean, he could have said that he misunderstood and left it that that. "I'm now confident that scenario I was describing did not come from the commissioner's office at all, and for that, I'm embarrassed." But despite most people's natural inclination to take flak for the boss, he just went and painted an X on Jeff's back. If you want to read the tea leaves, you might conclude that Jeff Wilpon is very much a dead man walking in the organization at this point. OE: I've really got to stop mixing metaphors. That was four in two sentences.
  2. There's an awesome game with the Padres starting about 21:30. Rusty ties the game late with a pinch hit down the right field line. The ball gets interfered with and there's controversy over whether to give the runner (Brooks) two bases or three (which would bring in the go-ahead run). Zabriskie (I think) briefly pitches the idea that the umps should place Staub on third. Steve, Rusty wasn't getting anywhere near third, and it's far from a sure thing that he'd've ended up on second. Anyhow, a sweet game featuring a start by Brent Gaff, late heroics by Bambi's Bandits, and an hilarious Tri-Honda Mets commercial set to "Help Me, Rhonda."
  3. Brodie is in the wrong for the right reason. Jeff is in the right for the wrong reason. Or something like that.
  4. I just need to make clear that I'm posting this for the three of us here. It can't leave this room.
  5. In light of yesterday's kneel by Dominic, Rob Manfred has (apparently) been trying to engineer a symbolic "protest" by the Mets, having them take the field at gametime this evening (7:10), before leaving in protest and returning an hour later to play, protest filed, but nobody hurt. The source is your Mets GM talking dubiously about the enterprise on a (barely) hot mic. Got to turn it way up. Van Wangenen looks like he could be simultaneously right and in a possible shitload full of trouble. Talking out of school about the the commish and Jeff Wilpon, if I'm hearing him correctly.
  6. Lest it be lost in tonight's multiple story lines, before the game, Dominic Smith became the first Mets player to kneel during the national anthem. https://cdn.newsday.com/polopoly_fs/1.48625954.1598504244!/httpImage/image.jpg_gen/derivatives/landscape_768/image.jpg> A stunning moment came in his post-game comments. What he said, and — good God — what he didn't say.
  7. I couldn't screengrab the shot of Wilson that I wanted, but he sort of has a Barney Rubble look going. https://metsrostercentral.files.wordpress.com/2020/08/screen-shot-2020-08-26-at-11.07.12-pm.png>
  8. He needed that. How about that bloop over his glove? Anderson Hernandez pulls that one in. PUT IN ANDERSON HERNANDEZ!
  9. Or Somaliland. Exactly.
  10. You should put a neutral color on it and categorize it as "disputed."
  11. Should have won that one 10-1, but I'll take it.
  12. Oh, they've GOT to call this guy out.
  13. Edgy MD wrote: Good God, where did Alfonso just hit deGrom? Don't worry. It was on the left shoulder. Yuchie over yuk! I voted 1967 Later Yuchie was Bill Gallo's mascot. This one is Willard Mullin. I think Gallo's only Mets yearbook cover was an indifferent 1981 execution. Beyond that, I agree with Greg. This year's cover is mostly pretty sharp. I like it more than this year's media guide cover.
  14. Man, I'm glad they scored, because Vincent is throwing a lot of meat this inning.
  15. Fumbly Marlin defense has been the Mets' best friend tonight. Well, second best, after deGrom.
  16. Juan Lagaga now hitting in place of Dom Smith.
  17. =LWFS post_id=44767 time=1598494145 user_id=84] Not relieving for Jake is the new not scoring for Jake
  18. I prefer someone who has pitched in the last 10 games. Familia, Betances, Shreve. I prefer them. And the walk. That's the thing. Stay with your hot hand.
  19. Telling Diaz to keep his eye on the runner doesn't really make me feel better about him throwing.
  20. Do some blow and start typing.
  21. Laggy makes his first putout in 15. Looks 25% less slick.
