  1. Well, the way the do that is to offer a period of a few days, where the deal is not finalized until an agreement on an extension is reached. I still think that deal is overpaying, especially in a shortstop-crowded marketplace, but that's the way to ensure an extension. But I'm good with the Springer/McCann/Stroman priority system. If there's to be a consolidation trade, it's probably best to store up chips for a pitcher.
  2. The only way to be certain that he's open to signing here is to sign him here.
  3. I always figgered the organization owned the SI Yankees.
  4. Everything goes down better with a little catch-up. The MRC team was watching for the resolution of the Cordell DFA, but there were no reports. None. Eventually an enterprising team member found a tweet from a reliable source that Ryan had become one of the orgainization's numerous minor league free agents. If this is it for RC, then he goes down in Mets lore as having one of the quarterbackiest names in team history. Smiths on the team's 2021 roster, his track record really probably already makes him a better asset than Guillermo Heredia to be the team's fifth outfielder. But Heredia has a roster spot, and Mal-X has none. Still, he's totally going to make you forget about Marlon Byrd.
  5. Listen to smg disrespecting Todd Spehr and Rick Wilkins. I mean, he's absolutely right, but it's such a savaging. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: We could use a MLB catcher and a world-class centerfielder and probably 2 good starting pitchers Mallex Smith says that he's got that second item covered.
  6. Mets beat guys are noticeably young and living out of some pretty tight digs.
  7. I'm not sure I can get with the idea that trading Kelenic, Dunn, Bruce, Bautista, and Swarzak for Diaz, Canó, and cash is the automatic ace card that disqualifies Brody Van Wangenen, but giving up J.D. Davis, Andrés Giménez, and Amed Rosario for a year's worth of Francisco Lindor is something to be excited about.
  8. I'm curious and it's on my watch list. I'm reading things that butt up against each other. It's a family flick but it's quiet and over two hours? It's slow moving but there are hyjinx ensuing? I only have one brain!
  9. A domestic chameleon gets lost in the desert, falls in among outlaws and the like and decides to redefine himself as the sheriff of dusty western creature-town. https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51Cg6lDu9QL._AC_.jpg>
  10. Just to clarify, shutting down bush league pro circuits and expanding the summer collegiate wood bat leagues is just one more way for the cartel to make athletes play for nothing.
  11. Well, I'd argue rebuilding the bridge with Nancy Seaver is more of a priority, but Beltran was on the menu.
  12. Well, I was thinking Amed Rosario was 2023's version of José Peraza, so cool.
  13. I don't think the Mets made anything wrong with Beltran. It was announced as a mutually agreed-upon separation. Beltran is richer than a Crosius. If he feels a need to redeem himself, terrific. But that doesn't mean he needs the Mets to engineer that for him. But I agree that he belongs in the team Hall of Fame, sooner rather than later. And it probably serves the team well to keep him in circulation, and publicly demonstrate their posture toward him, before that happens. I think a new ownership and new front office can provide that opportunity.
  14. Hit .260 in the minors and .273 in the bigs.
  15. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Nobody likes WHAT ABOUT BOB? I jumped on that one. Interesting how many of these back page stories were non-starters — Arizona baseball, Bob Kraft to buy the Mets, Steven Matz is gonna save the rotation. What a lousy fortnight reporters were having.
  16. Oh sure. Ignore José Peraza ... AT YOUR PERIL. Fun Fact: Peraza has played every position but catcher and first.
  17. Point for Steve Cohen.
  18. Another surprising addition to the Mets minor-league contracts earlier this week is young (26) big league veteran José Peraza. Having spent most of his career with Cincy, José is a pretty Metly without ever being a Met before, in that he was a relatively big-ticket infield prospect dealt twice during his climb through the minors in massive three-team trades, but nonetheless arriving faster than his significant skills could catch up with his level. He's got good bat to ball skills (he led the National League in singles back in 2018, and his homerun power shows up too, but the doubles and triples aren't there, and he's not big on taking pitches. Essentially, he's a picture of what Amed Rosario might turn into if he doesn't get his shit going. Still, he's a pretty good grab for a utility player in the bigs, even after being a part of a stinky Boston squad in 2020, and I'm surprised he took a minor league deal so early in the offseason. https://media1.tenor.com/images/e8accf9cdff29414b093dbd2d02b6065/tenor.gif?itemid=13705476>
  19. Jeez, it's a love-free zone.
  20. With his slick hair, cocky walk, athletic build, and wearing tailored jackets with no tie, he looked kind of exactly like you might expect big shot agents to look. He used that cell phone like he was born with one in his hand. [FIMG=338]https://nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2020/06/Brodie-Van-Wagenen-3.jpg?quality=80&strip=all[/FIMG] [FIMG=362]https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn%3AANd9GcQzR43uoVmGm6A2ZdEpkNm5FZyyqG9blNl4Ag&usqp=CAU[/FIMG] Later, when the realities of being the Mets' 13th (!!) general manager sunk in — one manager threatening a reporter, another blowing up in his face, getting caught telling the impolitic truth on a hot mic, and simply running the team through the stupidest of baseball seasons — he lost some luster on the slickness, some swing in that cockiness, and started getting that the universe is against me but what can I do? Wilpon look. The one that looks like he's trying to swallow his own face in public. He looked like a long lost son of Fred. That made me sad for him. 21. He has a relationship with Billy Beane. I know that much.
  22. I feel stupid. I could have led this thread with "AROD JOINS METS!" or the like.
