Not to be macabre, but I just realized that, if you really want to do this, you may have a very limited window to get Tommy Lasorda on record.
  2. phpBB needs a LIKE button. I want to tell you all how much I appreciate your work, without, you know, having to type stuff.

"Pitchers can't even bunt any more." Fuck that logic, Sandy. Yeah, but when he's talking about the Mets pitchers, he's spot on. I disagree. Because current Met pitchers fail to bunt effectively does not distinctly mean they cannot bunt. It more likely means they haven't been taught well or been given the reps. It's self-justifying logic.
  4. I didn't mention that Sandy thinks "the foundation is strong," but they are "more than one or two players away." While that's true, I always wonder about that analysis. It depends on the players. Also, a confession: Before I stumbled across this presser, I didn't know what a POBO was.
  5. Ed Coleman has some really weird dragonfly-patterned wallpaper. Press conference over.
  6. Howie Rose has a "New York State Baseball Hall of Fame" inductee plaque on his wall behind him.
  7. Andy Martino has no fedora, but has a set of Beatles plush toys in the background.
  8. "To a person," all the GM candidates have said that "bringing Rojas back is the right thing to do." Sandy wants an NL DH. Boo. "Pitchers can't even bunt any more." Fuck that logic, Sandy.
  9. Gelbsy asked about a Conforto extension. Sandy says he has not spoken with the agent yet, but expects to.
  10. Lindsey Kramer of Syracuse.com in the house, and he's asking about ... TIM TEBOW!!! Sandy says he's anxious to come back. Sandy advocated for him to return, saying he told him (paraphrasing), "Why let COVID policies end your career?"
  11. Points out that the Canó thing opens up $$ for 2021, but that money is still earmarked for 2022 and 2023. Finds the roster flexibility opening up just as interesting. Not currently considering releasing Canó. Decision hasn't been made on Rojas coaches.
  12. Here's the FB link: Facebook WWW.FACEBOOK.COM
  13. Sanderson wants someone with a background that suggests "baseball credibility" but also with the energy and initiative to make things happen.. (Is this a "no girls" policy?!! I DON'T KNOW!!)
  14. Howie Rose asks if the GM template has changed with no POBO to be hired. Sandy says no, but his "relationship with that GM" has changed. He will be more involved on the baseball side than anticipated. In other words, he will be the de facto POBO.
  15. Ricco is not a candidate for GM but will be back as Sandy's "right-hand person."
  16. Sandy is "very happy that 'Looie' is coming back." He likes Rojas' personnel management and looks for him to improve with the in-game side of the job. He is taking Theo Epstein at his word that he intends to take the year off, and so hasn't reached out to Eppy.
  17. A half dozen GM candidates have been interviewed. Steve Cohen is involved in the process. Luis Rojas coming back. Puma at the mic with a question NOW!!!!
  18. Sandy's on now, and he appears to be saying that he hasn't been able to find his candidate and will be leaving the role of president of baseball operations vacant and will focus on appointing a general manager for now.
  19. I take it back. MRC failed to officially acknowledge Dellin Betances optioning up a few weeks ago. The Mets currently have three open roster spots. 20. Good for Andres. And good for The Post. Look at how his hands bust out of the frame and cast a slight drop shadow on the text behind them. It's Zvon-riffic.
  21. Yeah, but I can see how they can operate at least partway into the offseason with what they've got. You don't need a director of development, when nobody's developing. You don't need a director of scouting when there's no one to scout. Sandy can act as GM in the meantime, he has scouting reports on file, and senior scouts to consult with. You want to get the right guys in place, and hopefully intellectual property and junior staffers and the Marlin McPhails left behind are enough for now. As long as the agents have a guy that's in charge, they know who they are dealing with.
  22. Well, if I subtract the guys I apparently incorrectly just added, and Robinson Canó doesn't count against the limit, there should be four open spots, so things are fine for now. If Matz is going to be cast off, it's going to be a question of not wanting to pay salary, rather than needing the roster spot, as there are other guys more DFA-able — such as Drew Smith and Ali Sanchez.
  23. I found https://www.mlb.com/news/rule-5-draft-eligible-prospects-2020this article which listed the players on each team they think should be added to their organization's 40-man roster, including those six Mets. I think what you may have read was this article or a variation on it. The article is poorly written and I can understand reading it three times and not being clear on the status of these players. But MLB editors appear to have gone back and put a + next to each player that was subsequently added, and none of those Mets guys have that +. I think the Mets stood pat and these guys aren't on the roster.
  24. Yeah, it was, but I agree with Frayed. It was about selling the cast. Outside of trying to elicit a fist-pumping Oh yeah! when Helen Mirren coolly confessed she was an assassin, it didn't really engage. It didn't engage me, anyhow. The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel Rule stipulates that films aimed at the sympathies of older audiences are well-cast, stylish, and embarrassingly stupid.
  25. All reports I have found say that the Mets stood pat at the deadline. MFS, do you have a link to your source?
