  1. Great time to leave the superschneid behind, Cameron.
  2. If Mookie was coaching, Zeke would have danced away from that pitch so the runner could score from third.
  3. Give Villar a hold.
  4. Jazz brunch for everybody! [fimg=500]https://ablackhillskindoflife.typepad.com/.a/6a0168e61fb2d2970c016765456ac9970b-pi[/fimg]
  5. I was thinking we might want to pinch run Lee for Smith. And then I saw Smith running, and I'm thinking we really ought to have pinch-run Lee for Smith.
  6. Bases loaded. Six straight balls. Zeke chases one out of the zone.
  7. It's a changeup grip with a curve's snap, I think. Lucchesi is starting get hookmarks in his body.
  8. Cancel culture!
  9. I had a year in the Rockville Centre Soccer Club where I was on a team that tied every game. We were at 0-0-8 and our propensity to draw had become an accepted absurdity. If one team led in the final minute, we knew the equalizer was pre-fated. Then, in Game Nine, we went up against the powder blue team. My classmate Gary lined up across from me and said, "You guys are going to win." "We don't ever win." "Trust me," Gary said, "today you're going to win." The ref started counting players and announced that Gary's team was two players short. "My cousin James is here," I said, "He can play with you." James was two years younger, not old enough to play at this level on any roster. He wasn't a bad athlete. He was a strong and smart defender, but soccer wasn't his game. And he'd be a ten-year-old playing with 12-year-olds or something. But that's where it gets funny. James suited up, and even as we quickly went up 3-0 on Gary's (indeed terrible) team, it became clear that James suddenly had the best skills on the squad. He had never dominated at any level before, but they quickly bumped him up from fullback to striker. He started getting the hint that it was less-than-useful for him to pass, so he started taking on all comers, 1-on-3 or something, having the time of his life getting a couple of shots on goal off. The Powder Blues played along, quickly switching to a strategy of Get-the-Ball-to-James-and-Get-out-of-His Way. He was an utterly mediocre player playing in a division over his head, and they were acting like they just acquired Pelé. So was he. Ultimately he scored the only tally as we ended our tie purgatory with a 9-1 win. I feel like this is more or less the mentality going on with Mets when they fill out the lineup card. "Let's bat McKinney third." "Is he good?" "He's new." "But is he good?" "Listen, he's new. Do you want me to run through the other options we've seen to date?" "No need. Looks like we've got a number-three hitter."
  10. =Ceetar post_id=65724 time=1622138612 user_id=102] mistake 1. chasing Baez 2. Throwing to the catcher 3. Trying to tag the runner instead of Baez by the catcher 4. No one covering vacated first. I miss any? besides the 2 throwing errors?
  11. I can think of 18,900,000 reasons why they might.
  12. Sure took a long time, but they finally got Zeke into a lineup.
  13. I'm not sure we can know with any certainty whether giving up Pedro Quintana wasn't giving up "real" talent. That said, I'm fine with improving defensively as fallback strategy for the time being. I'd just appreciate it if these plan C guys could supplement their defense with hitting and bunting against the shift and not swinging 3-0 when losing by three late in the game with no one on base. It'd be a shame if this pitching didn't produce a playoff team no matter who you have swinging the bat.
  14. A Boy Named Seo wrote: Huh, my friend had a different list that he pulled from Lahman. His had Randy Tate (1975, 41 ABs), Harry Parker (1974, 36 ABs), Ed Lynch (1982, 33 ABs) and Jeremy Heffner (2013, 32 ABs). I think his was likely seasonal and mine is for full careers. Ed Lynch was a decent hitter in non-1982 years. If you broke up this list into two lists -- one for hitters and one for pitchers -- a reasonable thing to do for this statistic-- Maybin is now tied for the top of the hitters list. Here come the Lineup breakers — all-time Met champs of position-player offensive futility. 15. About as resounding as you can get from a one-run win, I guess. A very groundbally game one.
  16. Yeah, it's up to him whether he wants to erase himself from this list with a single safety before the Mets lock this in by removing him from the roster. Sandy, Sr., by the way, set this high standard back in 1967. And hey, it looks like Randy Tate, at least, got himself several walks.
  17. Let's get Diaz a little safety net here.

  22. Perzzy KABOOM!s the Mets onto the board!
  23. Stroman totally got his foot in there. This one is going to be overturned.
  24. McKinnney had all four infielders to the right of second base ... and then pulled one right into that crowd. It doesn't have to be this way.
  25. Lindor makes what might be his best play of the year, showing Ozzian range.
