  1. You can't stop Rene Rivera, one can only hope to contain him.
  2. 1-for-6 now w/RiSP which brings things to 4 for their last 39 over the last 3-1/2 games. If they were to just hit their normal (near league worst) BA of .238 in those situations it would translate those 4 hits into between 9 and 10. Think those extra 5-6 hits wouldn't make a difference when the last four games, three of which are/were one run games (and the other was two runs)? P.S. in case you hadn't noticed, I'm really started to obsess over this
  3. And halfway through this game the Mets are a whopping 1-for-5 w/RiSP (which actually raises their avg) and, as has been happening a lot lately, that one didn't even score a run. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Hey guys the Mets wasted a leadoff double Here's the stat I want to see: Pct of times we've scored when the leadoff guy gets on. Digging around the interwebs I've found that league norms are around 35-40%. I have no idea what the '16 NYM pcts are but it seems like it's around 10%
  4. Rene Rivera: Extra Base Hitting Machine
  5. To further the point, tops in the NL at LOBs are the Marlins, who put a lot of guys on but struggle to score them because they hit few HRs except for Stanton, and the Cubs who are near the top in runs scored despite their high-LOBster quotient as a function of putting so much traffic out there in the first place.
  6. So many wasted opportunities. Do we lead the league in LOB? Probably not* because we don't get all that many guys on in the first place. But I'm sure we lead in the percentage of runners left on which is even worse. Mets had 35 PAs w/RiSP in the Cardinal series while the Cards had 18, yet runs scored in the three games were exactly the same and we lost twice, both by one run. Not a coincidence. * oe: Mets are right about league average
  7. And for those of you who thought that last night's 2-for-14 w/RiSP wasn't pathetic enough ... they're 2-for-14 again tonight. That's 4-for-33 over a three game span.
  8. Whatever we do we can't put the leadoff runner on. That move just kills every inning we have.
  9. I believe the Cards have more 2-out RBI hits in this game than the Mets have in all of July.
  10. So who's neck is going to be strong enough to lift their head up first, baby or daddy? What, too soon?
  11. ... apparently during his final AB in Game 2. Personally I liked it better back before players even had intercostals. They didn't used to have obliques in those days either. Anyway, this sounds like it's going to be another one of those 'two to three days' thing (at least for now - could be major surgery before the week is out, who knows) so it looks like a way for Wilmer to get some playing time, or maybe a Flores/Johnson platoon if Terry is intent of limiting WF vs RHPs.
  12. He also went on to put a bunch of the blame on Ventura, saying that he's the guy who should be protecting the players from these sorts of 'money over winning' schemes by mgmt.
  13. btw, the bats were a whopping 2 for 14 w/RiSP in this game, it just didn't seem so bad because a) they won the game anyway and Asdrubal broke his streak But 2 for 14 still reallllly reallllly suxxxx, especially when tacked onto the 0 for 5 in the first game -- and that doesn't even include the Sac Fly which technically is also an out w/RiSP just isn't scored that way because it gets the run in. The only other hit? Lagares's replay-reversed single which didn't even drive in a run. So add it all up and it was 20 trips to the plate yesterday with a runner on 2nd, or on 3rd, or in some cases both, and all they managed was two hits, one of which never left the infield. And yet somehow they made it all seem like it was progress, which maybe it was considering where they've been coming from.

  16. I gotta admit, I felt like I was tempting fate a bit by cackling over the Nats blown save whilst Holiday was up there representing the tying run.
  17. Zvon wrote: One in the 7th, one more in the 8th, then three in the 9th and the Cleveland seriously, I just used a racist word when I really meant "Guardians" steal one from the Nats. BAM!! Not sure the Indians have beaten Washington this bad since Little Big Horn Niiiiice. And this was a bad beat too. First off, in the top of the 9th the Nats loaded the bases with one out but neither Harper nor Murphy could get the extra insurance runs in. Then came Papelbon already coming off a blown save in his last outing: Walk - RBI Double - Sac Bunt w/Error by Zimmerman ties the game - Int Walk - Bunt Single ** Out goes Papelbon, in comes Ollie Perez: Line Out - Game Winning Single

  19. Just another ridiculously solid and efficient inning from Reed.

  21. This has got to be the only team in MLB history where getting the leadoff man on decreases the odds of scoring. Another 0 for 5 w/RiSP
  22. Good thing about this game: The Cardinals really suck Bad news: We're probably going to lose despite their suckitude.
  23. Whew! For a minute there I thought Matt Adams was going to score on a very similar looking double to the one where Reyes couldn't score. If that had happened I was going to be sure that the fix was in.
  24. Still looking for our first RiSP hit, both for this game and I believe for the entire month of July. And if anyone wants to know why there are no DHs anymore: 1 hour 45 minutes, 4 innings.
