  1. Because it would not only help salvage a little bit of our season but it would go a long way towards ruining theirs. The AL East is already slipping away from the Yanx (5.5 games) and if just one or two of the [u:3vh1cld9]eight[/u:3vh1cld9] mediocrities on their tail could win more than a game or two in a row without stepping in their own shit then the WC would be in trouble also. The contenders for the AL WC may not be any good but that race should be fun to watch -- currently there are 9 teams inside a 5.5 game span. What's kept the Yanx in the lead is that those other eight are spending most of their time beating up each other.
  2. There was actually only one out in the 9th, but still just as good. It's like the guy in the video never considered that such a turn-around was even permitted to happen in the Bronx: "Wait, they're allowed to do that?!?"
  3. BoSox (barely) keep the world safe for democracy by beating the Yanx 2 of 3 over the weekend. Looked like they were about to lose this one when 12 y/o (OK he's 20) Rafael Devers took Chapman deep w/1 out and 2 strikes in top 9 to tie the score. First HR by a LHB off Aroldis since 2011 Sawx then won it in the 10th, but maybe the best thing about the whole deal was that the Yanx went through the entire slate of their 'A' bullpen trying to steal this one in advance of our series: Robertson (23 pitches); Betances (12); Chapman (26); Kahnle (18) Would have been nice of course had the Sox not shit the bed on Friday and swept their asses outta there. But on the other hand I was afraid there for a while that they were going to lose the game they led 3-0 in the 8th (Friday) [u:2stcei4n]AND[/u:2stcei4n] lose their Chris Sale game (Sunday) too.
  4. #61 for those scoring at home (or even if you're alone)
  5. Young Dom does have a nice ability to get bat on ball. He's making square contact nearly each time even if it's not always the hardest contact.
  6. Edgy MD wrote: What a lovely cheap double play with the bases loaded. That one was even worse than what the BoSox "accomplished" on Friday after Reed blew up their lead in the 8th. Aroldis Chapman started the 9th by walking the first three hitters. Then came a Sac Fly to LF to cut the lead to one but the runner on 2nd decides to tag also and is thrown out at 3rd (for the rare SF-DP) One out later the Sox had lost by one.
  7. bmfc1 wrote: Is this game being played in slow motion? Yes, but 4-1/2 innings (1/2 a game) in approx 1:35 actually qualifies as just about normal these days. Twelve of the 15 games played yesterday were over three hours, eight of them came in north of 3:10, so what was once a rarity is now the norm.
  8. Well, GF's list above is as a NYM only (otherwise Murph would be in 3rd place with 32*) so Duda's not likely to be adding to his total anytime soon. Stanton, btw, is one behind Cespedes for CitiField HRs. Utley has a mere 14 * he also hit one at Shea in 67 career ABs
  9. Not only do you often not know the names of the players who come out of the Bravos system but I usually have trouble remembering what they look like too.
  10. Today's HR by Giancarlo Stanton (just one so far although there may be more to come) gives him [u:2z2p6t8l]101 at Marlins Park[/u:2z2p6t8l] since that stadium opened ... in a park that's bigger than CitiField, and two years newer. Just sayin'
  11. Sometimes PTBNLs are just that, the Brews give the Mets a choice of players from which they can choose and a few weeks to make up their minds.
  12. 13th round draft pick in 2013 out of Franklin Pierce University (Go Ravens!) in Rindge, New Hampshire
  13. I recall that we were mostly in favor of extending Walker the QO last winter, although certainly part of that was due to feeling that he'd reject it. Had the QO rules last year been what they are now it's likely it never would have been offered and then who knows how things would have turned out. Certainly the season couldn't have gone much worse.
  14. Sounds like the always popular 'Player to be Named Later'
  15. It's tempting to say that there's no harm in leaving Smith in at this point in the season but PH'ing Wilmer is the right move here. Game's on the line, tough LH sidewinder out there, better power, etc.
  16. Not a bad time to try that double steal thingie, 2-outs/2-strikes w/a hot pitcher on the mound. And it almost worked but players these days have a habit of sliding too early so that by the time they reach the base they're skidding to a stop rather than busting through it which is obviously most effective at home. Mostly nit-picking here, but maybe a better slide gets him there. I don't think the new rules have helped either.
  17. And now Jon Heyman says it's done ... no word yet on the return. [crossesfingers]Maybe we'll get a minor league reliever!![/crossesfingers] https://www.fanragsports.com/news/heyman-brewers-acquire-neil-walker-mets/
  18. questionable to begin with as medicals often aren't as cut and dried as folks like to think, too big a risk for one team might be quite acceptable to another Good point. Teams have trouble dealing with the Orioles because they say that Angelos wants pristine medicals. The MFYs might have used a mere blemish (literally or figuratively) to change their minds and are using the media to blame the Mets and hurt Walker. And it's not just differing versions of what one team deems acceptable or not; sometimes determining whether or not there even is an injury is subject to interpretation. I think sometimes fans are under the impression that there's some kind of easy test where the litmus paper turns red if the player needs to be DL'd vs blue if the muscle/tendon/ligament is still good - like one of those instant +/- style pregnancy sticks. Reading X-rays or MRIs is often as much art as science. But at this point it's probably all moot as I'm guilty of burying the lead here ... MetsBlog (from about 1/2 hour ago): Mets IF Neil Walker is on the verge of being traded to the Milwaukee Brewers, reports Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports. Although the trade is said to be "close," nothing has not yet been completed and Walker was participating in batting practice on Saturday. He is also in the lineup at second base and is slated to hit second.
  19. The only thing we 'know' about the Yanx offer for Bruce is that there were two bodies instead of just the one we got from Cleveland. Whether that makes it a better offer or not would be difficult to gauge even if we knew the names which of course we don't, but it's certainly not better simply based on the Yanx saying so.
  20. Gary said something last night about this being more like a 7:30 start tonight because the Phils have some pre-game ceremonies going on.
  21. Ryan Comma Ryder in his 1st NYM system appearance: 3 runs on 4 hits and a walk in 2 innings as part of a 15-2 Columbia loss. Oh well.
  22. The other thing about these leaked stories about concerns over Walker's medicals (almost certainly coming from the Yanx) is how unfair that is to Walker both now and going forward. Even if those concerns are accurate -- questionable to begin with as medicals often aren't as cut and dried as folks like to think, too big a risk for one team might be quite acceptable to another -- there are other teams who might consider dealing for him plus he's going to be a FA this winter, and now he has to do so with a team poisoning the waters via a whispering campaign so as to cover their own asses. It's not quite as bad as when ESPN decided that getting ahold of Jason Pierre Paul's X-rays and putting them on the internet was good journalistic practice, plus you're never going find evidence of where these leaks came from anyway, but there's no way clubs should be permitted to allow info like that to get out, officially or otherwise.
  23. 45 fucking minutes later and the bottom 8th is finally over. 5-3 Yanx heading to the 9th Good thing Farrell has Kimbrel saved for the ni .... oh wait, that inning's not going to come up now that you couldn't hold the lead. oe: and it was Addison Reed who was in the midst of all that ugliness: HBP, HR, 1B, WP, BB, ... then he was yanked but three straight singles after that allowed all his runners to score
  24. Sox pen giving up the lead at the same time as the Mets pen. Boston had a 3-0 lead on a 2-hitter heading into the 8th. Now game tied, 2 on, and still no one out. Three WS titles later and I still have no faith in the Sawx not to blow games like this.

Price is said to be $1.2 Billion That means we'll be seeing TV shots of him (if not interviews) in the owner's booth on every single telecast, both when the Mets play them and all nationally telecast games. The fucker is harder to get rid of than a condo in Florida. Jeter never did interviews when he was a player and the press had access to him on a daily basis. I don't see him starting now when he's got an office suite in which to hide. The scribes will have better odds of getting a Jimmy Hoffa interview.
