  1. And while the Yanx have almost caught up to the A's several times in a game where Oakland took a 3-0 lead in the 2nd, the A's finally tacked on one in the 8th plus three more in the 9th to take a seemingly safe 10-5 lead ... and now it's a final.
  2. Never in doubt, had 'em all the way.
  3. As someone here pointed out before me here, these types of articles aren't written from a Mets fan's point of view but rather by what Yanqui fans believe is a Met fan's point of view.
  4. With the demotion today (5/10) of LHP Zac Curtis coupled with the recent (5/7) DL'ing of LHP Adam Morgan, the Philly pitching staff currently consists of 13 arms, all of them right-handed. Additionally, the Phils have only two LH bats on their current roster [Odubel Herrera, Nick Williams] although that at least is augmented by the presence of five switch-hitters (two regulars).
  5. Here is a line that NO ONE would have bet on three years ago? Below are stats for 2016-2018 for two well known NYC pitchers. Though Matt Harvey was coming off of TJS two years earlier, his 2015 season had gone well so there was no reason to believe that his subsequent age 27-29 seasons wouldn't go well too. Sabathia meanwhile had been going downhill for several years already [2013-2015 = 4.35, 1.32] and was getting fatter & drunker as he was heading into [u:1e02a1go]his age 35-37 seasons[/u:1e02a1go] (and almost his 36-38 years seeing as how he has a July birthday). But then this happened -- [table:1e02a1go][tr:1e02a1go][td:1e02a1go]——[/td:1e02a1go][td:1e02a1go]Starts[/td:1e02a1go][td:1e02a1go]W/L[/td:1e02a1go][td:1e02a1go]ERA[/td:1e02a1go][td:1e02a1go]WHIP[/td:1e02a1go][td:1e02a1go]H/9[/td:1e02a1go][td:1e02a1go]HR/9[/td:1e02a1go][td:1e02a1go]BB/9[/td:1e02a1go][td:1e02a1go]K/9[/td:1e02a1go][/tr:1e02a1go][tr:1e02a1go][td:1e02a1go]HARVEY[/td:1e02a1go][td:1e02a1go]39[/td:1e02a1go][td:1e02a1go]9-19[/td:1e02a1go][td:1e02a1go]5.93[/td:1e02a1go][td:1e02a1go]1.58[/td:1e02a1go][td:1e02a1go]10.8[/td:1e02a1go][td:1e02a1go]1.5[/td:1e02a1go][td:1e02a1go]3.4[/td:1e02a1go][td:1e02a1go]6.9[/td:1e02a1go][/tr:1e02a1go][tr:1e02a1go][td:1e02a1go]SABATHIA[/td:1e02a1go][td:1e02a1go]63[/td:1e02a1go][td:1e02a1go]25-17[/td:1e02a1go][td:1e02a1go]3.59[/td:1e02a1go][td:1e02a1go]1.26[/td:1e02a1go][td:1e02a1go]8.3[/td:1e02a1go][td:1e02a1go]1.1[/td:1e02a1go][td:1e02a1go]3.0[/td:1e02a1go][td:1e02a1go]7.4[/td:1e02a1go][/tr:1e02a1go][/table:1e02a1go] -- and it's hard to tell which outcome was less predictable.
  6. bmfc1 wrote: After Sunday, the players talked about how much they were looking forward to playing in a hitter's ballpark. That lasted exactly one game. Really it lasted half a game because, after scoring in each of the first five innings on Monday [1, 1, 3, 1, 1], they were shut-out for the rest of that game and in 20 of the next 22 innings while scoring a total of 3 runs in those two isolated frames. We can blame the starters, or the bullpen, or Mickey and today's lineup snafu all we want, but when the bats put up 2 runs or fewer in 7 of the last 9 games, a 1-8 stretch is about what you can expect.
  7. Benjamin Grimm wrote: So Bruce didn't actually ground out to the catcher ... No, Rosario did that later when it was 2nd & 3rd w/2 outs. This is a team that knows when to time their 10 foot groundouts.
  8. Benjamin Grimm wrote: This is confusing. What was the sequence of events? Nimmo K'd Flores K'd Cabrera doubled ... but that brought Riggleman out of the dugout The part that is new to me is that apparently the NEXT batter is the one who gets called out, so the second inning starts not with the 4th hitter (Bruce) but the 5th batter (Gonzalez) To further confuse things, Cabrera's AB is treated as if it never happened meaning he gets credit for neither his double nor even an AB, and yet he doesn't get charged for the out either.
  9. "THIS WHOLE GAME IS OUT OF ORDER!!" [fimg=400]https://brightgoldenhaze.files.wordpress.com/2014/08/pacino-review.jpg[/fimg]
  10. A two-game Yanx/Sawx series to be played in London is now set for June 2019. Somehow the Sox agreed to be the 'home' team for both games leaving the Fenway faithful with just 79 actual home games next year. It may be a nice idea and I understand why those two teams are getting the honor, but one can also question the wisdom of inviting teams that are going to cause the cricket fans over there utter; "I say, why is this game taking so bloody long?" This MLB/London agreement also calls for another series to be played there in 2020 although the participating teams have yet to be determined (or they've been determined and are being kept secret). Maybe the ROYALS should go and play against the RED(coat)S.
  11. bmfc1 wrote: do the players have a choice to go back to New York so they can have two nights in their own bed (or a favored bed) rather two nights at the Hampton Inn or do they have to stay together? I suspect they're required to travel together but, once in Philly, I doubt there's anyone stopping them from either renting a car or having the WAG pick them up and drive up the NJT for a day and a half before turning back around. iow, I think MLB has put their 'bed check' days behind them. But if one of them wanted to fly directly to NYC he'd probably need permission and a good reason behind it, and then he'd have to pay for it himself.
  12. Note the start time, something I believe the Mets requested so as to have a full 48 hours to recover from the upcoming long flight to Philadelphia for the series there starting on Friday. Plus Jeff was able to plan ahead and get good rates on the plane and hotels by booking early and off-peak. Actually, the Reds are headed to the west coast -- game in LA on Thursday -- and the new rules dictate that long travel and no off day in between must be preceded by a day game ... but, around here, we don't let little things like facts get in the way of a good story Zach Wheeler vs Sal Romano I suspect many of us remember someone named Sal Romano from back in the old neighborhood. And seeing as how he was born in Syosset L.I. and went to HS in Southington, CT, some of us may even remember THIS Sal Romano from back in the old neighborhood. Good ol' Sal made his ML debut with a couple of spot starts in 2017 and then got the full-time gig in July where he's been spectacularly adequate ever since [7-11, 4.38; 1.44] across 23 total ML starts. Southington HS also produced ML'ers Rob Dibble and Carl Pavano so, in addition to trying establish himself in the major leagues, Sal will also try to become the first pitcher from SHS not to be a total asshole.
  13. After getting unlucky and being burned by a bloop, Robles then commits a Robles.
  14. James Paxton, Mariners, no-hitter
  15. Mex17 wrote: Another crappy Alderson bullpen signing? Sure, if it was knowable in advance that the guy who pitched 70 appearances/77 innings to a 2.33 ERA/1.03 WHIP was going to get injured on day 2 of the season.

  17. The big series this week is the Sox coming to the Bronx for a three-gamer. Boston sits at 25-9 but are just 1 game ahead of the Yanx who have won 16 of their last 16 They kick off tonight with Severino vs Pomeranz. 1-0 Yanx thru 2 on a Stanton HR David Price has been scratched from tomorrow's game, a development which can only help the Sawx considering that Price has a career record of 3-187 vs the Yanx with an ERA of 198.74 (or something like that) And pity the struggling (kind word for it) Orioles who are off to a 8-26 start and the odds of that got worse tonight when they coughed up [u:1t7ecwpn]a ten spot to the Royals in the 1st inning[/u:1t7ecwpn]. 4 HRs in that frame.
  18. Memories of the first 'Memories of Matt Harvey' thread.
  19. So Harvey gives up the Manhattan skyline in favor of Skyline Chili Or, he went from Queens to the Queen City
  20. Like Harvey, Mesaroco was once a 1st round draft pick [15th overall in 2007 out of Puxatawny HS in, yes, Puxatawny, PA*] and was considered a hot prospect for a time [top-25 across the board pre-2012 season] But since then virtually all of his offense appeared in one season when he was a 2014 All-Star, hit 24 bombs, and even garnered some back of the ballot MVP votes [21st] Lots of injuries and not a lot of hitting followed that season -- just over 300 ML ABs from 2015-2018 while slashing .197/.291/.318 (63 OPS+) Turns 30 next month. * insert Ned Ryerson jokes here
  21. - Reyes had to freeze momentarily on the liner to RF. He scores easily otherwise and probably would have anyway, but with no outs and the middle of the order coming up ... - but Cabrera and Frazier combined to kill a whole bunch of rallies tonight. - I guess the idea of running Reyes in the first place rather than Nimmo/Lagares was that, if you were going to PH later in that inning, at this point Reyes would be your last choice from among those three. - Good on the scorer for awarding the win to Gsellman [2.2 IP, 1 R, 1 H] rather than Sewald [1.2 IP, 2 R, 3 H]. Lots of times the scorer lazily goes to the next pitcher in those situations when the starter fails to go the required five - a rare high-scoring yet sub-3 hour game (2:47) but then most of the runs on both sides were scored very quickly.
  22. The problem with Homer Bailey who, along with Phillip Hughes of the Yanx, were 1A & 1B top pitching prospects in all of baseball one year, was that he tore his UCL right after signing that big deal. He may even have torn it in the act of signing the contract although my facts might be a little off there. My mother took to watching some occasional golf on TV in the final years of her life and became a bit of a Rory McIlroy fan on account of his Belfast-area accent. One set of her grandparents emigrated from Belfast as adults (1905) and so kept their accents their entire lives and it was the one British Isles accent she could pinpoint even a half century after both were gone.
  23. Cooby: isn’t it so that after he cleared waivers, another team could sign him as a free agent for major league minimum, with the Mets still liable for his contract? -- Yes So if I were another team, nuts to a trade and just wait til this weekend -- Except that by then he'll be able to talk to all 29 teams, not just yours. By giving up something for him prior to the seven-day waiver period expiring a team can cut off the other 28
  24. I'm sure they'll at least wait and see if 3 consecutive right-handers and Great American Ballpark do anything for him.
  25. I dunno, he was at .333/.478/.611 six games into his season [6 for 18 w/half his hits for XB + 5 BB] so it's tough to make the case that he was rushed/not ready. I mean, yeah, that's a small sample, but we're dealing entirely with small (or small-ish) samples here, and he certainly doesn't look injured and/or limited in the box. He simply isn't making contact.
