  1. But, hey, we already have three hits (with no walks & eight K's) against Tommy Freakin' Milone ... and in just six innings!!
  2. Sirius -- the 'Dog Star' and the brightest non-sun/moon/planet object that we see in the sky -- is a southern hemisphere star that appears in our latitudes during the winter months only. So I guess that makes its apparent movements coincide mostly with the sun in northern hemisphere summer months although, with Sirius not being one of the 'zodiac' constellations, the sun would never completely be "in" it. [fimg=300:3ky3cz1o]http://www.unmuseum.org/siriuloc.gif[/fimg:3ky3cz1o] Back to the game. A 3-0 deficit is clearly too much for this team to overcome. Except against marginal hurlers such as Milone in which case the Nats early 1-0 lead was likely sufficient.

  4. So Drew Smith, after throwing one inning/20 pitches -- one scoreless inning I might add -- needed to be removed from the game in order to make room for the Jose Reyes clown show?
  5. Edgy MD wrote: But maybe not Greg Kihn. Ken Rosenthal says the Greg Kihn Band's managerment has been hunkered down all day in talks about moving their longtime frontman. They haven't posted a lineup yet for tonight's gig at the Corn Palace. Rumored destinations include Men at Work and Tommy Tutone. The GM said he would reKIHNsider any proposed deals before the waiver deadline.
  6. The Nats won't have reliever Brad Kintzler tonight as he was dealt to the Cubs (for an A-ball hurler). This is not to be confused with 2B Ian Kinsler being dealt from the Angels to the BoSox (two minor league pitchers) As of now, both actor Ben Kingsley and sex researcher Alfred Kinsey remain with their current clubs.
  7. Brewers scoop up Schoop from the Orioles
  8. Big price for Archer though. - RHP Tyler Glasnow - top 10/20 prospect prior to 2017 OF Austin Meadows -- 9th overall draft pick (2013); 292/327/468 in 145 ML ABs in '18 High ceiling guys AND ML ready. Archer is often good but hardly is every time [ERA+ = 100, 101, 93 in last three seasons] although I suppose if you don't win this year he's still a piece to build on over the next few years. But they'll have to do so minus two potentially good pieces.
  9. Just to update the big board: - Lance Lynn is a Yank - Cameron Maybin adds just a few letters to his employer as he moves from the Marlins to the Mariners - the Marlins also deal side-arming reliever Brad Ziegler to the DBacks - catcher Wilson Ramos goes to the Phils. There was talk of the Nats trying to re-acquire him - OF Leonys Martin from Texas to Cleveland
  10. Fans generally love the 'trade-em-all-for-prospects' route. At least they do in theory, until that is the prospect(s) turns out to be not much then they can revert to saying 'I didn't mean THOSE prospects' and mock the guys who made the deal until the end of time.
  11. Yanx continue to deal relievers and continue to horde int'l cap money as they trade Adam Warren to Seattle. No bodies in return, just future bonus money points.
  12. Without turning this into a laundry list of ways to tweak the game, I just don't see any connection between youth sports and the DH rule. They may eventually go full-time DH but it won't be because of how American yutes are being raised these days. Basically the split rule remains because the AL owners know nothing else at this point and like the rule while the majority of NL ones still don't. Talk about how much the union does or doesn't want it or what they'd give up to keep it is purely speculation at this point as it's a topic that never even comes up in CBA negotiations.
  13. Well, to be fair, with Familia the exchange was for two bodies PLUS slot money, not just slot money alone. The Yanx also made a slot money deal this weekend, sending LHR Chasen Shreve along with a minor league righty to the Cardinals for 1B/DH Luke Voit and $1.5 mil for int'l cap space. I guess the deal for Zack Britton made Shreve expendable although he was probably as good as Britton this year and wasn't even arb-eligible until this winter. Voit has only 125 ML ABs to his name despite already being 27 y/o. He looks to be more or less a AAAA player and will likely be the RH platoon for Greg Bird over the next two months. That said, he'll likely hit 18 HRs in limited duty over the next two weeks alone.
  14. Anthony Swarzak is a steely-eyed missle man! Who knew?
  15. So not only do we not get his w/RiSP [oh for last 19] but now we don't even get the ball out of the infield. Over three ABs in the last two innings, all with bases loaded: weak GO, foul PO, foul PO [Rosario, Jackson, Plawecki]
  16. I would have left Wheeler in to bat [top 7, bases loaded, two outs, 1-0 lead] but Mickey decision to PH instead [Conforto IW, Rosario GO] hasn't burned them so far as Lugo has a quick 1-2-3 bottom 7
  17. I think 'Action' Jackson's wheels have a few too many miles on them.
  18. Edgy MD wrote: Met pitchers, if you want a lead, you've got to get the ribbies yourself. [if you want a win then ya gotta] "Shut 'em out and hit one out" -- Jerry Koosman
  19. So Conforto, as the fourth batter of the game on Friday, stroked a 3R HR. In the [u:5s6b8a8f]17 innings[/u:5s6b8a8f] since then, the Mets have scored one run -- and that one was unearned via the poor throw on Reyes's Sac Fly w/bases loaded, one out, so even that one was kind of disappointing/lucky.
  20. We should just preemptively forfeit deGrom games. It would save wear and tear on him and the outcome would be the same anyway.
  21. After reportedly finishing second in the Manny Machado sweepstakes and then at least inquiring about Asdrubal Cabrera, the Brewers land Mike Moustakas in an effort to beef up their infield's offense. Going to KC are a couple of guys I know nothing about.
  22. Greg Holland, who was part of the KCR bullpen trio that they rode to the WS in 2015, then missed the 2016 season with TJS, then bounced back nicely with an AS year in Colorado in 2017 (led league in GF & Saves), and then sat around until March 31st before landing a $14 million FA contract with StL ... had his 7.92 ERA / 2.24 WHIP butt DFA'd by the Cardinals 36 appearances/102 games into the season.
  23. If anything, I think it verged on the side of late. And keeping a starter in on the basis of a low(-ish) pitch count is at least as bad a move as taking one out based on a high count.
