Doo-Dah is indeed the second best walk-getter among all long-timey Mets, but still a long shot behind the red-headed leader. I wonder how much/if any coach Eddie Yost had on that aspect of the game. I get the feeling that coaches did a lot less in those days so possibly not a lot. But Yost, who in addition to STILL being the best fielding 3rd base coach I've ever seen, was known as 'The Walking Man' during his playing career and indeed he racked up a stunning .140 isolated OB rate over his 18 year long career, or a walk in about 17.5% of his career PA. Usually only power hitters lurk anywhere hear that territory and Yost was no power guy [5' 10 / 170 - 139 career HR] PlacePLAYERWalk Rate 1)Wayne Garrett.111 2)Lucas Duda97 3)Darryl Strawberry96 4)John Milner94 5)Lee Mazzilli93 T-6Keith Hernandez90 T-6Howard Johnson90 T-6Bud Harrelson90 9)Carlos Beltran89 10)Todd Hundley83 BatMags = 7 Points Edgy = 18 Points Chad O = 7 Points Ashie: = 2 MFS = -1 The remainder of the list: T-11) Rusty Staub .082 T-11) John Stearns .082 13) David Wright .080 T14) Mike Piazza .077 T-14) Ron Swoboda .077 16) Edgardo Alfonzo .075 17) Wally Backman .070 18) Dave Kingman 0.68 19) Tommie Agee .067 20) Jerry Grote .065 T-21) Cleon Jones .059 T-21) Kevin McReynolds .059 T-23) Ed Kranepool .055 T-23) George Foster .055 25) Jose Reyes .052 26) Hubie Brooks .051 27) Felix Millan .048 28) Rey Ordonez .045 T-29) Mookie Wilson .043 T-29 Daniel Murphy .043 I knew Muffy was a low walker (to borrow a term from Seinfeld), but I wouldn't have guessed him for dead last if this were a quiz designed the other way around. As a Nat he upped that to .051 btw, bad news to the second place finishers: I'm all out of steak knife sets. I'm also out of Cadillac El Dorados
