  1. Roberts seems to be managing, at least on the pitching side, the same way he did last year: very quick hook with the starters and one inning (if that) at a time for the relievers regardless of how well they did or are doing. On the hitting side he's not sitting his supposedly best hitters in platoon match-ups the way he did last year, but he hasn't been doing that all year anyway. Doesn't help that the Dodgers bats couldn't even dent Scherzer enough -- after threatening to in both the 1st & 2nd innings - to get into the pen. Strasburg vs Buehler; in LA; 8:37 (5:37 local time) Wednesday night. One thought from Game 4: Ryan Zimmerman may be about 1/3 the player he once was and this is quite possibly his last year as a Nat and maybe even as a ML'er. But he's always been good at turning around high fastballs and he can apparently still do it. That 3R bomb he hit, which essentially blew open the game, was 97 mph and right about nose high. That's a tough pitch to "get on top of" (as the hitters say) but he did.
  2. 9 hits + 4 walks = 1 run (a garbage time solo HR). 11 LOB; 2-12 w/RiSP ... Way to be clutch! Only out-scored 23-7 in this year's version of three-and-out. Just forfeit next time.
  3. K w/three on to end the 2nd K w/two on to end the 3rd Cashing it in now because there's no way I'm staying up to 2AM (at this rate) to catch the end of this one anyway.
  4. Oh FUCK YOU Twins!!! Bases-loaded/no outs, 2nd inning -- ZERO runs, ZERO balls out of the infield!!! Oh yeah, and my cable is going in and out, which means there are two games on and I'm having trouble watching either one of them! Not that I'm in a bad mood about any of this.
  5. Dave Roberts do like switching pitchers, don't he? Still a ways to go in this one [5-1 Nats in the 5th] but the HEAVILY favored Dodgers are possibly looking at having to get through a very hot Steven Strasburg in order not to get bounced in the 1st round during a season where nothing else but WINNING the World Series is considered acceptable.
  6. Yadier tied it (bloop single in the 8th) and Yadier just won it (Sac Fly in the 10th).
  7. Ozuna just went deep for the second time in the game (Goldschmidt = 1) ... 3-1 Cards, bottom 4
  8. Well it's looking like the Astros are NOT going to be the most well rested team heading into the next round as Greinke got bounced around today (3 HRs) and the Rays lead 9-3 in the 7th
  9. Howie Kendrick is a professional hitter. But as an all-around ballplayer he's ... a professional hitter. In Game 3 he added a bone-headed base-running blunder to take them out of a potentially big inning, which goes along nicely with his big error earlier in the series. After Russell Martin hit that 2R HR to make it 10-4 you knew this one was all over. No way the Nats were coming back from a six-run deficit in the 9th.
  10. I've decided that the key to these series where you have no rooting interest (or, perhaps more accurately, a couple of anti-rooting interests) is to simply root for a gut-punch loss by the home team. Because if you're going to be denied happiness no matter what the outcome, at least you get to see pissed-off fans, crushed entitlements, and crying children, which is pretty much the next best thing.
  11. Carlos Martinez apparently remembered Acuna's HR trot from the other day, but he forgot to save the game. Braves put up a 3-spot after 2 were out. 3-1 and now it's Melancon's turn to try and save it.
  12. Are they enforcing the mound visit limit in the post-season, because I'm pretty sure Molina has made like 17 trips to the mound in this game?
  13. 38 y/o Adam Wainwright, in what could be his final game as a StL Cardinal and even possibly as an ML'er, was one out short of getting through the 8th but will leave after 120 pitches w/the bases loaded and two outs. 4 hits (all singles), 2 walks (final two batters), 8 Ks In comes Andrew Miller to face FFF and ... Fly Out to CF to end the threat Meanwhile, the much younger Mike Soroka went 7 with just 2 hits and no walks/7 Ks 1-0 Cards, heading for bottom 8
  14. =whippoorwill post_id=23869 time=1570377151 user_id=79] I'd say his eyebrow [CROSSOUT]s are[/CROSSOUT] is obvious
  15. This game -- Final score = 3-1 in 8-1/2 innings -- somehow managed to surpass the Yanx/Twins game in length. Clocking in at 3:46 for a game that didn't start until after 9:00 (EDT) -- on a Saturday!!, it ended just shy of midnight. So how many kids, even those who are Astros/Rays fans, were unable to watch the game? Answer = Most, if not all. And how many adults in the eastern time zone (which only comprises about half the nation) other than Astros/Rays fans, do you suppose stuck with that game from first pitch to last? Tell me it was 100 and I'd bet the 'Under'
  16. So I'm taking it from these last few posts that the Twins didn't come back in this game after I turned it off?
  17. But at least on the plus side, the 5th inning just started and it's only taken them slightly over two hours to get there. This sport is killing itself in slow motion (emphasis on 'Slow') and they seem unable to do a fucking thing about it. Post-season games to date: 2:55; 3:23; 3:37; 4:15; 4:07; 2:46; 3:18; 3:24
  18. Yup! I was just about to type the same thing. I'll start "liking" you guys when you show maybe the slightest tinge of being even vaguely competent. 2 runners on, goes 0-2 on the batter (G. Torres) ... "Hey I got a good idea, let's split the plate with a perfect set-up!!" That it was only a one-run single was the best of all possible outcomes *** VERY NEXT BATTER*** Gets to 0-2 ... "Hey I got a good idea, let's hit him (G Sanchez) and re-load the bases": *** VERY NEXT BATTER ** and AGAIN WITH TWO FUCKING STRIKES ... Grand Slam (Didi) And this is by the pitcher they brought in in the 3rd inning because the starter sucked too much.
  19. With their pen they don't have great other choices. So far, in the WC game plus the first two w/the Dodgers, their non-Scherzer/Strasburg pen has given up 5 runs on 7 hits plus 4 walks in 5 innings, and that includes the two scoreless they got from Daniel Hudson although it's not like he's be totally clean either (2 IP, 2 H, 2 BB). Rainey/Rodney/Strickland/Doolittle, otoh, have combined to allow 5 runs and 7 baserunners in 3 innings. Scherzer/Strasburg out of the pen = 4 IP, 0 Runs, 2 Hits, 7 K They might burn them out by next week, but they'll likely be thrilled just to see next week.
  20. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Reminiscent of the Dbaggs leaning on Schilling and Johnson. Yeah, but even Arizona didn't rely this heavily on their duo until they could smell the WS. In this case, it's just three games into what could be as many as 20 in total and already they've called on Scherzenburg twice each in a four day span. Now I suppose one could argue that simply getting into the second round IS the equivalent of their World Series given their rough October history so it makes some sense from their POV.
  21. Already north of three hours and they're not yet 2/3 of the way through this game. Say goodnight Gracie
  22. See if you can get as many of your hits/HRs as possible with the bases empty, OK Minny? And while you're at it, see how many walks & errors you can gift the Yanx. It's this sort of strategy that has you with zero playoff wins since the Reagan administration.
  23. Ken Davidoff in the NYPost https://nypost.com/2019/10/04/why-joe-girardi-would-instantly-increase-mets-credibility/makes the case for Girardi
  24. Two hours in and they're nearly halfway through!!! I wish I could blame this on being an AL game but it's not like yesterday's NL games -- 4:07 & 3:23 (for a 2-hit 8-1/2 inning shutout) -- were speeding along either.
  25. =Fman99 post_id=23806 time=1570234542 user_id=86] Brett Gardner hit 25 HRs this year?
