  1. At least it's a comfort to know that we're being shutdown by top-flight starters and relievers and not journeymen minor leaguers and no name bull penners.
  2. ALL Nats hits are for XB NO Met hits are for XB ... not all have even left the infield
  3. At least these are all solo shots. Hey, it's all I got.
  4. WFUV's Don McGee, disc jockey and noted NYM fan, noted the Jethro Tull references/jokes Gary Cohen got out of Ian Anderson's start for the Braves last week. And so in tribute to that and to Keith following up by offering that BENEFIT was his favorite JT album, McGee played WITH YOU THERE TO HELP ME and TO CRY YOU A SONG off that album on his Saturday 'Mixed Bag' show.
  5. Obviously it's partly semantics, but the words do matter. The idea that Stroman was a “replacement” for Wheeler was a stupid justification made by team executives to the media. There's no need to repeat it or dignify it, hence my objection. So how does this work then? Is B only a replacement for A if we like B? Or if we approve of the logic that got him there? Or does it only count if B is > or = to A? And of course what started this all off was Chad pointing out that, within the confines of this season at least (the only time they've been concurrently active since Stroman effectively replaced Wheeler in the NYM rotation) they have been near statistical twins. I didn't LIKE that Vince Coleman was signed to be a replacement for Darryl Strawberry ... but he WAS signed as a replacement for Darryl Strawberry. One OF'er left so they needed another one and chose him. If Straw hadn't left then we'd have never signed Coleman. Or was the only way for Straw to be "replaced" (since that word is being used in quotes here) was with a clone of himself? I don't get it.
  6. Chad ochoseis wrote: We got Stroman as a replacement for Wheeler Not a knock at Chad (since this “replacement” narrative came from elsewhere) but that is unmitigated nonsense. Failing to re-sign Wheeler, who wanted to remain a Met, was a big error. In fact, the biggest failure to re-sign a player since…Reyes? Olerud? Except that he was a replacement for Wheeler, a pre-replacement or a hedge against failing to re-sign him if you prefer that wording. That doesn't mean we have to be happy about it and can't still argue that they should have signed Wheeler in addition to trading for Stroman. But I don't think the fact that that didn't happen makes Chad's statement wrong. One was coming in the door just as the other was leaving and effectively occupies the place where ZW would have been.
  7. =G-Fafif post_id=69335 time=1624756277 user_id=55] WPIX game Sunday
  8. NYM pitcher will be maybe Stroman, maybe someone not named Stroman Going to be a tough game either way w/Wheeler out there coupled with our inability to hit pitchers not nearly as tough as Wheeler. Be nice to steal it and walk away with 3 of 4 Braves lost today (Sat), Nats lost also (to the Marlins) and, hey, I heard the Phils lost their game too so a good Saturday all around. Plus the Yanx are losing to the BoSox.
  9. With that throw about halfway home it was on line and I was getting nervous .... but Herrera couldn't set himself so it just didn't have enough juice.
  10. We CAN'T lose this game now ... Can we?
  11. If Neris is going to keep missing with his splitter you've got to just sit on the heater.
  12. One good foot block deserves another.
  13. I'd probably double up on Lugo here but it's going to be Diaz.
  14. Conner Brogdan is definitely a 1970's TV Private Eye name.
  15. I wonder if Lindor's first pitch swing rates are up this year compared to his pre-NYM career ... cuz it sure seems high right now.
  16. That one just cleared Jankowski's hair.
  17. Nothing like a quick 6-7 minute break between half innings to speed things along.
  18. =roger_that post_id=69294 time=1624743141 user_id=128] We should find a way to start deG. in 7 inning games exclusively.
  19. I think the problem is that recent rule changes have discouraged harder slides. They're still legal but have fallen out of use. There was nothing wrong with the slide except that it didn't have enough oomph behind it to dislodge Realmuto's foot.
  20. Almora didn't swing at a single strike. Unfortunately, that's nothing new
  21. Not often where a team scores a run in a four pitch inning where nothing leaves the infield until the 3rd out ... but that's MLB circa 2021
  22. This isn't quite '99, at least not yet. But it's starting to have that same kind of feeling about it where you find yourself semi-surprised when even a hard hit ball isn't turned into an out by the infield.
  23. Edgy MD wrote: Seemed like a silly play to burn a challenge on. The only thing that makes that look like anything but a clean catch is wishful thinking. It was a crew review, not a NYM challenge.
  24. Chad ochoseis wrote: Looked like a catch to me. Yeah, it might have hit the padding first, but I can't overturn it based on what we saw. And they need to rethink that design. It's just too easy to misread those, it happens all the time out in LCF
  25. =G-Fafif post_id=69199 time=1624664587 user_id=55] First pitch 7:55 PM.
