That was the first year I was paying attention to baseball, but Joe Morgan must have escaped my notice. My earliest memory of him is as a Cincinnati Red. Was with Houston since coming up in '63 and was one of the characters during the Houston stint in Jim Bouton's BALL FOUR Was traded to Cincy at the end of '71 though went back to the Astros for the 1980 season
  2. JDD gets to be the designated strandee this inning.
  3. New rule: if you waste our time with a no-chance challenge a fan of the opposing team can go into the opposing dugout (with a mask) and say "f**k you" to the manager. We need all kinds of rules like this. My new one is that if a Mgr or PC delays the game so he can talk to his pitcher mid-inning and the next batter gets a hit then that team loses all mound visit privileges for like a week or more.
  4. Be nice if Pete could dump truck this Hess guy.
  5. Our long [CROSSOUT]national[/CROSSOUT] local nightmare is over.
  6. Marlins now have only 16 replay challenges remaining.
  7. I'd say we're stuck with a bunch of warning track power guys except that their best shots aren't really reaching the warning track.
  8. Also, once again, the only hit w/a RiSP didn't actually score a run. And did anyone NOT know how that last Baez AB would eventually end?
  9. Four hits, only two of which have left the infield. And two of the four came in front of the pitcher (not that the non-pitchers have done better w/runners aboard).
  10. If you want the upside of J Baez you're going to have to take the bad with it. That strike three pitch wasn't EVER in, or even near, the zone.
  11. Always nice to win a close game despite leaving EIGHT runners on in the 7th. 8th, 9th innings.
  12. Brian Anderson: you've been Angel'd And here i was about to post that AH had actually had a rather decent game behind the dish.
  13. 61 RBIs on 107 PAs/85 ABs this season w/bases loaded 22 of those came via non-hits: 13 BB, 4 HBP, 5 Sac Fly 8 of the other 39 came on the 2 Grand Slams leaving 17 run-scoring hits other than HRs in 83 sacks-juiced ABs
  14. Edgy MD wrote: You hate to say it, but sometimes Jazz can be too improvisational. Better than the line I was working on. And yet Another non-hit run scored! And now another hit w/RiSP that doesn't score a run.
  15. Opposite field hits ... what a concept.
  16. A 3-0 lead in the 2nd inning with two on and one out and a chance to blow the game open ...then Nimmo hits into a first pitch GiDP and they've got one single since.
  17. Zach Pop? That's some kid from a boy band, right?
  18. btw, that 5th inning featured four mound conferences: Todd Stottelmyre's 2nd trip of the game in the top half, then Hefner in the bottom half, then Nido and the IF one batter later, then Rojas for the pitching change one batter after that. And somehow they're having trouble getting games in in under 3 hours? Go figure.
  19. Kind of lucky to have scored as many as three. Only have three hits and only Dom's was hit hard.
  20. With Mattingly out do the Marlins still get 13 replay challenges per game?
  21. Our RBIs yesterday and today have consisted of Sac Flies and Fielders Choices ... but it's a start. And the only hit with RiSP tonight failed to score a run.
  22. So Cyclones CF Antoine Duplantis had a night to celebrate tonight, his brother Mondo, who competes for their mother's native Sweden, won the gold medal in the pole vault.
  23. You just knew that tack-on run was going to burn us.
