  1. =kcmets post_id=74388 time=1628899338 user_id=53] Assuming this game started on time, how does it take 51 minutes to play two innings and the result is only 1-sniffle?
  2. Things are running a bit behind at TWiB Central these days, but better on Friday than not at all. Philly hosting the Reds this weekend and the commies have hung a three-spot on Wheeler in the 4th Braves are in DC where rain has delayed the start of things
  3. After 1 inning: Runs 1-0; Pitches 8-32 Neither one of those predicts a good near term future.
  4. While we were enjoying the game, the folks in Iowa couldn't. https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/sports/baseball/2021/08/12/mlb-tv-blackouts-commissioner-rob-manfred-field-of-dreams-game-top-priority-major-league-baseball/8111648002/https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/sports/baseball/2021/08/12/mlb-tv-blackouts-commissioner-rob-manfred-field-of-dreams-game-top-priority-major-league-baseball/8111648002/ Local blackouts. Echhhh! This seems crazy but I guess ML rules just treated it as if any other games and the ChiSox broadcast didn't want to get stepped on by the National network. While traveling through Iowa last week, the division seemed to be mostly a Cubs/Cards split. You'd see bars with a schedule for each posted side-by-side on the wall but very little if any ChiSox (even though, being on Chicago's south side, they're technically a wee bit closer). That Des Moines has been the longtime Cubs' AAA affiliate probably has a lot to do with that and I suppose in western Iowa folks might tend more towards the Royals. Saw a lot more KC Chiefs stuff than Bears though that could be more a case of bandwagon jumping than anything else. The biggest split by far was Iowa vs Iowa St. A banner hanging from the front porch with a 'DIVIDED HOME' emblem (half Hawkeyes/half Cyclones) was a common sight.
  5. It's Key-Runch time fer sure. Seven games against the defending champs who score the most runs while allowing the fewest, this despite losing Kershaw, Bauer, and Dustin 'Gingergaard' May off their rotation for long stretches of time. And then we have six more games against the team that's currently better than them and has been for much of the season. Max Scherzer gets traded out of the division and yet we'll see him twice in a week anyway. I hadn't realized until today that these next two weeks are in an odd Home - Away - Away - (off day) - Home set up, meaning, among other things, that, in addition to 11 of the 13 being night games* (Wednesday the 18th in SF and Sunday the 22nd in LA are late afternoon starts) five of those will be late night starts EDT, creating a strong possibility that this season could well go down the drain with me missing most of it. * Your schedule might say that this Sunday is a day game in CitiField but, as ESPN mentioned a few dozen times during the FoD telecast, it's been shifted to their night game All six games at CF are 7:10 starts.
  6. I gladed I readed that Deesha post
  7. So it seems that last night was the 15th time the White Sox have beat the Yanquis via a walk-off HR. The first one? 7/20/1919 ... some guy named Joe Jackson I'm guessing no one called it a 'Walk-Off' back then.

The Royals and the Tigers played a game tied in with the College World Series at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha in 2019. Excellent. So we're up to New Jersey, North Carolina, Nevada, Iowa, Nebraska, and Hawaii tacked onto the 17 different states plus DC that regularly host ML games. And in foreign lands regular season games have been played in Canada (Ontario & Quebec) plus Puerto Rico, Mexico, England, and Japan
  9. =bmfc1 post_id=74301 time=1628823577 user_id=73] Manfred said that there will be another game next August and the Cubs Manager accidentally said that the Cubs are in the game. Too bad that the Mets don't play the Cubs that month.
  10. They would have won if Jeter were out there.
  11. 2R walk-off HR by Tim Anderson w/one out wins it for the Sox !!!!!!!!! About 20 corn rows deep
  12. Walk (Gallo) + HR (Stanton) and it's 8-7 Yanx Fuckin' Rojas!
  13. Judge hits his 2nd of the night, this time with one on, and it's 7-6 ChiSox w/2 out in the 9th btw, we're also well over 3 hours already
  14. Edgy MD wrote: I didn't see anybody killing him. "Bad job by Luis" "Why are we coddling these guys?" My point is that using your closer to cinch a three run game is, at best, more often than not an inefficient use of resources. At worst it's playing for stats above wins. Now throw in that Diaz was used twice in the previous 20 hours and I'd argue that using him in a low leverage situation against a (currently) bad team would be closer to blatant misuse.
  15. And the Yanx/Sawx played at least something resembling baseball in London a few years back. But I was thinking strictly about U. S. states.

  17. Are they still making ethanol out of corn? For a while that was considered the big thing among environmentalists but it proved to be more promise than performance to the point where even Al Gore finally admitted that the (public) money poured into it had been a mistake. We were passing all kinds of factories? along the way last week (they looked more like overgrown barns) which I'm sure were making something out of corn and/or soybeans but I have no clue what specifically was going on inside.
  18. And the biggest thing in my mind: it was a three run lead! Those are saved at >95% clip no matter who is given the ball. The problem was obviously the wildness by both May & Familia; the Nats hit one ball hard that whole inning (the leadoff single). Other than that there was an infield single (two if you want to call the one to McNeil an IF hit) plus too many pitches, walks, and WPs/PBs The (half) inning sucked but I don't fault the decision that got them there. Plus it ended well and no one got injured in the process.
  19. Sox = 3 in the cornfield vs 1 for the Yanx 7-3, bottom of the 4th The dimensions of the park seem to be about average; three of the four HRs have gone out to RF and it's not nearly as short as at YSIII (335 down the line). But the ball does seem to be carrying.
  20. Which brings a question to mind: which states have hosted ML* games despite never having a home franchise? The Brooklyn Dodgers played occasional 'home' games in New Jersey. MLB staged a Sunday Night game (IIRC) in Ft Bragg a few years back putting North Carolina onto the list. Iowa makes three. I suspect there are more though can't think of any right now. * limiting this to NL/AL games since 1901
  21. For the record, the first ML HR in the state of Iowa belongs to Jose Abreu. Unfortunately, the second belongs to Aaron Judge. 3-1 Yanx, middle of the 3rd
  22. Are we really killing Rojas here for not using Diaz for a third game in under 24 hours for what should have been a cookie save [3-run lead, bottom of the order from a team playing out the string]? I was imagining the pasting that decision would take if Luis HAD gone to Edwin.
  23. =Ceetar post_id=74219 time=1628788421 user_id=102] It's a systematic problem. Barber is white. Stroman is black. That falls within the study parameters.
  24. Edgy MD wrote: This brings up a curiosity: If a game is scheduled for seven innings, and then rescheduled (or continued following a suspenion), does it maintain the seven-inning status even if it is played on a later day without a second game? Yes (at least I think so). The rule seems to dictate that a game will be completed at the length it was designated as at its beginning. Hence Game 1 today being 9 but Game 2 at 7
