1. In order to miss the playoffs entirely, the Yanx would have to go 0-3 while at least two of the three others go 3-0 this weekend. The other scenario has them going at least two games worse than at least two of them which would then force them into a play-in game just to make the play-in game. The Sawx have no one to blame but themselves after going 1-5 vs the Yanx and O's this week.
2. Yanx beat Toronto tonight making it 2 of 3 on the heels of 3 straight vs Boston. So they'll have a 2.0 game lead over all three contenders going into the final weekend making them an almost certainty to grab one of the two WC slots.
3. Tim Britton had some interesting comments on The Athletic's Mets podcast. He said fans will forever hate the manager. When the team is losing it's is his fault, and when winning, he's just a "button-pusher." I'll agree to his argument to this extent, that just like every football fan believes hid head coach to be uniquely horrendous in game clock management, poor stewardship of a bullpen is almost an automatic complaint among baseball fans. Most fans hate most of their relievers anyway so charges of butchery a rarely more than one or two games away even in the best of times.
4. And now it's the Phils down to their final out. oe: and the Braves clinch
5. Houston, with a chance to clinch the West, took a 3-0 lead into the 9th but a now holding onto a 3-2 lead w/the tying run on 3rd ... and they win it on a 5-3 GO!
6. For once the Yanx actually didn't dominate the O's this year: 8-11 for Balt vs NYY and 6-13 vs BOS Usually the Yanx do to Baltimore what the Rays did this year: 18-1
7. Not exactly tight baseball tonight: errors, walks, HBPs, lots o' pitches, lots o' time.
8. Willets Point wrote: Despite the sweep this weekend, the Red Sox won the season series vs. the Yankees 10-9. I think that will make a difference that will see Boston ahead in the standings at the end of the season as they now play 6 games against bottom feeders Baltimore and Washington while the Yankees play contenders in Toronto and Tampa Bay. So is it safe to say that we can sum up your faith in Boston as more than a feeling? Sox win, Yanx lose, Toronto wins (vs Yanx) but now they all have to worry about an unexpected heat wave coming out of the Pacific Northwest: Seattle = 18-8 in September THUFRISATSUN

YANX+1.0@TORTBRTBRTBR

BOS----@ BAL@ WAS@ WAS@ WAS

TOR-1.0NYYBALBALBAL

SEA-0.5OFFLAALAALAA

Oakland was eliminated from contention last night thanks to their 12-15 September including 0-7 vs the Mariners
9. Dodgers score five times in the 8th to beat the (now sub-.500) Padres 11-9 Giants go the other way by winning 1-0 vs Arizona on a 7th inning Kris Bryant Sac Fly Giants lead the race to stay out of the one-game death trap by 2.0 games
10. Jays win!! BoSox up big. So this put the WC race mostly back to where it was as the week started ... except that Seattle may be closer depending on late results from the west coast and that the status quo favors the teams on the inside.
11. So that was a very 2021 NYM game
12. Let's see if we can at least get a ball out of the infield... y'know, just to make it interesting.
13. Both the Mets & Jays go down meekly on infield grounders in the half-inning after giving up their leads.
14. It occurs to me that we need to be rooting for the Braves tonight and tomorrow or else we'll face the almost certain case of seeing a division clicking of the week.
15. The Mets have hit three balls down the line tonight that have gone for singles.
16. Gary: Wander Franco just tied Frank Robinson's 1956 rookie record for consecutive games on base Keith: 1956, was that Frank's rookie season?
17. Good lord what a dope!! Who knew that Josh Hader would turn out to be the smarter of the top two Brewer relievers?
18. If we win either or both of these next two games we will clich the season series from Miami!! And you guys thought there was nothing left to play for.
19. What is it with NYM catchers and game-winning infield dribblers?
20. So the Marlins have now used Jazz (Chisolm) Pop, and Bass in this game. Where is Rich Folkers or John Rocker when you need them?
21. Braves win 2-1 !! Galvis K's with runners 1st & 3rd to end game.
22. Dom shows why he's been sitting lately.
23. I was just about to post how I didn't like how this (8th) inning was set up [fast runner as the phantom runner, top of the order] and Sierra gets picked off before the first pitch was thrown. YUGE!!
24. Trevor May becomes the third pitching Trevor of the game. Shirley that's a major league record.
25. I suppose bunting with Nimmo isn't a horrible move when you're looking for one run ... but I still don't like it.
