  1. Roberts lets their reliever hit w/a runner on 2nd and two outs (inning ending K) then brings in a new guy to start the next inning anyway???
  2. Edgy MD wrote: Well, with this offseason market not having unfolded at all, yet, the starting point would have to be the Lindor deal. Anything over half the Lindor deal is my ending point for Baez. The most enduring point from 'Moneyball', IMO, was the idea that it's easier to replace the player you failed to sign than it is to make up for the one you sign at the wrong price. With the glut of top shortstops on the market this off-season it may very well turn out that we were too quick to jump on Lindor and that the players given up plus the length of the deal will combine to make it too high a price to pay for what we ultimately get. Don't double down on it by thinking that Javy is a unique 'must get'.
  3. Watching via tape delay -- so I'm about 20 minutes behind -- where Houston's Framber Valdez is perfect thru 4 innings on just 46 pitches, a mark which is, I believe, a record for Frambers. 1-0 Astros
  4. I was counting down outs while watching the 2003 ALCS ... I also got only as far as five before the roof started to cave in. TdA hit into two rally-killing GiDPs today.
  5. Lukas Jackson definitely didn't have the cool hand tonight.
  6. Good thing there was that pitching coach visit or else that inning might have really gone all pear-shaped on the 'Stros.
  7. Didn't the Mets go like a season and a half without a Grand Slam a couple years ago? And here are the Sox hitting 'em in the playoffs like there's nothing unusual.
  8. All of you who had 'Bottom of the 2nd' for the first unnecessary mound conference please step forward to collect your winnings. oe: and it didn't work [RBI Single] as these visits increasingly seem not to
  9. And if it helps the whole lack of sleep thing, they drop the puck Tuesday night at 5:08 - or a good old fashioned two in the afternoon start local time. Of course that doesn't mean the game still won't take four hours, but at least it'll still be daylight in the east for two of those four.
  10. And maybe it's just a case of low expectations -- plus I can always make arguments against a three-man booth -- but I've been surprised over the two-three years I've been hearing him that Francouer has been as good at the mic as he's been. I catch a decent amount of Braves reg season games so I hear him there too where he's essentially replaced Glavine as the top color guy on local telecasts. Now maybe doing fewer was Glavine's choice, I dunno, but between him being the bigger and longer-term Atlanta star and a seemingly more educated (though neither went to college) I found it shocking that they went with 'Frenchy' whom I had pegged as a typical dumb jock and maybe even more than most given his cave man approach to hitting, his reliance on his athleticism rather than trying to improve on his shortcomings as a player, and his reputation as being a totally gullible butt of clubhouse jokes wherever he went. But as ex-players go he's probably better than most and he went from first filling in on local casts to network choice rather quickly despite not being an obvious 'Name' hire.
  11. NLCS #2 was a good game... and if it was an hour shorter it would have been a really good game. (3:56)
  12. You never like to lose via a walk-off, but the Dodgers can at least write off last night's loss to needing a bullpen game vs Fried. But tonight they had Scherzer vs an ineffective Anderson plus a 2-0 lead 5 pitches into the game. It'll be tough to see them recovering if they lose this one.
  13. Three innings, over an hour to play despite just 2 runs (on one swing), with multiple mound visits already including the now obligatory conference to talk about a pinch-hitter they should have already known all about. aka: another game I won't see the end of
  14. Did these teams have to get special permission to complete 7 full innings in under three hours?
  15. I hadn't realized until now that Pujols opted for a LAD uniform number matching his age, 55
  16. It just occurred to me that the LHR for Houston who we've seen several times in this playoff run so far, Blake Taylor, was the PtbNL we got from the Pirates when we dealt away Ike Davis. We later sent him to Houston in Dec '19 for the short-lived stint of Jake Marisnick. Taylor was a 2nd round pick by the Pirates and was still just 18 y/o at the time of the trade so there were reasons for optimism. But he wound up injured for most of the first three years we had him -- 41, 12, and 9 IP -- and I guess progress after that wasn't exciting enough to keep around. He's been decent in one-plus seasons w/Houston and, nearly eight years after the deal, only recently turned 25
  17. =kcmets post_id=79884 time=1634421266 user_id=53] Gonna go out on a limb here and guess no team has hit two grannies in the first three innings of a game in a league championship series before?
  18. Hey, I'm just here to play straight-man.
  19. So Altuve, having just tied Jeter in post-season HRs despite less than half the ABs, is going to be cited by sportscaster everywhere as the new all-time October clutch hitter, right? btw, nice to see that they got six innings in in (just a hair) under three hours.
  20. Guy & girl meet on beach, start to get all hot and heavy... but then she decides she'd rather munch on a taco.
  21. 3 innings, one hour 33 minutes iow, another post-season game I'm not seeing the second half of.

  24. HOU RHP Lance McCullers [28 reg season starts; 13-5; 3.16 ERA; a league-low H/9 & HR/9 rates] is off the roster for this series due to "forearm tightness" BOS goes with the recently ineffective Chris Sale for tonight's games
  25. I'll probably be pulling for 'Lanta
