  1. Perhaps HE didn't want 7 - 10, sticking to 5 to leave himself at the best age to be for his next/last FA contract.
  2. =TransMonk post_id=112463 time=1667771831 user_id=71] 5 years seems long to me.
  3. And the great void begins.
  4. Rosenthal talking to Altuve. Finally he can look at a ballplayer eye to eye.
  5. Good for Dusty!
  6. Bregman may be out, but there's NO WAY that that's the kind of play replay was designed to "fix". [posted prior to decision being announced]
  7. WTF Schwarber?!? Bunting with 2 outs, bases empty and 2 strikes?????!
  8. Last time Dusty was 2+ innings from a WS championship (10/26/02 - 20 years ago last week): Giants up 5 - 0, top 7th. Russ Ortiz on the mound -- Garrett Anderson - GO -- Troy Glaus - 1B -- Brad Fullmer - 1B ** pitching change ... Dusty famously hands the game ball to Ortiz as he leaves the mound. Felix Rodriguez comes in. -- Scott Spezio - 3R HR - Orlando Palmiero - K ** pitching change, Scott Eyre in -- Adam Kennedy - 1B ** pitching change - Tim Worrell in -- David Eckstein - FO [5 - 3 Giants] Bottom 8 -- Darrin Erstad - Solo HR [5 - 4 SF] -- Tim Salmon - 1B -- Garrett Anderson 1B ** pitching change - Robb Nen in -- Troy Glaus - 2 RBI 2B [6 - 5 LAA] -- Brad Fullmer - K -- Scott Spezio - IW -- Jose Molina - Sac Bunt -- Adam Kennedy K And then Troy Percival closes out SFG 1-2-3 in the 9th Giants would go on to lose Game 7 4 - 1
  9. Wowzers! You can definitely make the case that Alvarado vs the LH-swinging Alvarez was the sound move ... but, man, I'm reluctant to pull Wheeler off a HBP plus a soft single.
  10. Schwarber's gonna schwarb. Leads off the 6th w/a ice-breaking HR
  11. In general the powder blues emerged as an alternate to gray in road unis during the '70s & '80s But there were the Phils in Game 5 wearing them at home while visiting Houston has 'Astros' splashed across their bright orange shirts (with gray pants at least). So one can see where this sort of thing can cause agita among those members of the tradition police. Me, I don't get too worked up over this stuff.

  13. Harper up vs closer Pressly down 3 - 2 and with two outs in the 9th. And he's HBP Castellanos at the plate as the winning run.
  14. Not a good night for Rafael Montero: one run in and two more on base while retiring just one.
  15. Of course he's also sucking big time right now, but to claim cause and effect is probably a stretch
  16. Stunning stat learned from tonight's game: J. T. Realmuto caught 230 more innings this year than any other catcher. That's more than 25 games' worth. 133 games started behind the plate plus 3 at 1B and just 3 more at DH. Now, granted, that's not Randy Hundley territory (160 games started in the no-DH/no-night games era at Wrigley Field) but it's this generation's version of it.
  17. Probably the last inning for Verlander (5th). He keeps getting quick outs early in innings but then needs a ton of high-stress pitches to get the 3rd out. Result = 95 pitches to get thru the 5th
  18. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Thor escaped more danger in the 1st. The danger caused by the backfired strategy (they got neither the out nor prevented the run). But following that RBI Single, the Astros haven't hit a fair ball since. [K+CS, K ... K, Foul Out, K,] Jose Altuve has no business wearing No 27. He should wear 2 or maybe 5 Or maybe 1/8
  19. Philly playing the infield in to the second batter of the game following a leadoff triple is borderline kooky, no?
  20. I'm still taking the strategy of rooting for whichever side is behind.
  21. Maybe the best part was how LOUD that place was at the start of the game, going nuts with each out and even with each strike in the top of the 1st and Nola mowed 'em down 1-2-3 At the end ... not so much, and Nola didn't even survive the 4th.
  22. And it's the second ever WS no-no!
  23. Schwarber = BB 3rd of the game is for Phiily
  24. Marsh = K Now Schwarber
  25. 5 - 0 Astros 9 - 1 - 2 for the Phils trying Not to get no-no'ed Houston closer Ryan (not Elvis) Pressly on to attempt to close out a four pitcher no-hit WS game.
