  4. ESPN must split/shrink the screen during their SNB for at least 30% of the time. They shrink it to show the player who's mic'd up at the expense of the game itself (like we have to SEE the player talking in addition to hearing him) They shrink it to show their announcers at the expense of showing the game itself as if THEY are the ones we tuned in to see They do the same with the now standard but always meaningless in-game manager interviews. They do it whenever they cut to Buster Olney like we want to see him over whatever game action happens to be going on ... etc. Funny, I don't see them putting MNF games into a shrunken box six or seven times a night but of course they LIKE football but don't like baseball, don't know anyone who likes baseball, and therefore assume that no one else does either.
  5. Delayed Thoughts on the Game!!!! Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Hey we won a series Three of 'em in a row actually -- Cincy, Atlanta, KC -- all two-of-three Edgy MD wrote: I'd've sent Marte on the misplay by Renfroe. Renfroe has a great arm but he was pursuing the ball with his back to the plate. - I would not have, not with no outs anyway. Yeah he had to back pedal a few steps to fetch the ball, but that was all before the runner even got to 3rd - I did like the Marte send on the fly to LF. Didn't work of course but it took a great throw/good HP block and hold to get him. - we hit a LOT of pop-ups today in key situations with runners aboard(ick). Not a good sign. - that's two very nice games from Butto. This is a development that bears watching - a LOT of borderline B/S calls in that bottom 8. Some favored one team or the other but ALL of the ones to Nimmo could have have gone either way and ALL went our way. That, quite obviously, turned out to be Yuge - I liked the non-PH for Bader there: more speed (and I was actually thinking of a slow IF grounder prior to it happening), and less of an all/nothing hitter than the obvious lefty PH choice of DJ Stewart. Plus he's been short-term 'hot' over the last few days.
  6. This wouldn't have happened if Francisco Linder were still alive.
  7. We need one more baserunner and then have someone park one off of McArthur.
  8. If we can arrange to get one of those long ball things whilst some guys with the same color pajamas were on the pillows out there then we'd be in business.

  12. 134 pitches combined thru three innings. A couple ticks past one hour to play. How long would three innings like those have taken prior to the speed up rules?
  13. Last night Shohei Ohtani tied Hidecki Matsui for career (MLB) HRs by a Japanese player: 175
  14. A lot of pitches thrown for just 1-1/2 innings.
  15. Spencer Strider underwent surgery on Friday to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow with an internal brace, which was performed by Dr. Keith Meister in Arlington, and will miss the rest of the 2024 season, the club announced on Saturday. Supposedly this 'internal brace' surgery is for partial tears in the UCL and has a shorter recovery time than the full replacement (TJS) procedure. But obviously if he's going to miss the rest of the season it still doesn't mean a quick return to action. oe: I see this is now breaking news in two different threads!!
  16. The return to afternoon baseball for early season Saturdays in Queens brings us RH Alec Marsh vs LH Sean Manaea at 1:40 EDT Marsh, 26 and in his second ML season, was a 2019 2nd round (44th overall) out of Arizona St His 17 Games/8 starts in his rookie season led to no great distinction [3-9; 5.69 ERA; 1.56 WHIP] but, like a lot of his teammates, he's improved on things so far this year [3.09 / 1.03] first in a 7 IP 1R/2H game vs BAL, he then went 3R/8H in 4.2 vs CHW As the only KCR pitcher yet to make his 3rd start I guess they consider him their 5th starter. Must be nice to live in a world where your team goes three whole times through the rotation without having to resort to back-ups and call-ups. I'l be watching assuming my cable/streaming services don't go out again just before game time as they did last night.
  17. If this is strike three, who's the HP umpire? [FIMG=300]https://nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2024/04/Screen-Shot-2024-04-12-at-11.47.59-PM.png?resize=851,1024[/FIMG] Bonus Hint: Strike One and Strike Two were also outside the box, even if a bit closer. Game rules: one guess only; all wrong answers result in CPF banishment
  18. Four separate two-out RBI Hits resulted in five of the six runs. Pete's solo HR leading off the 8th was the only non 2-out RBI All of that helped to overcome three GiDPs which erased a leadoff baserunner.
  19. btw, I think you misspelled dmpjfl [Dumbass Message Posted Just For Laughs] But I suppose 'Dumbass Post Meant Just For Laughs' works just as well. I believe SCRABBLE accepts either ... or at least they should.
  20. And he remained married to the former Susan Kekich ever since the infamous 'swap'. The other half of that deal lasted just a short time.
  21. So for a whole host of reasons -- rainouts, reschedules, day games/work skeds, various other shit -- I've seen two, maybe three, games live so far this season. So tonight I was looking forward to the return home and some better weather ... except that 20 minutes prior to game time my cable/internet/streaming goes out. A local outage problem as it turns out, so it wasn't just me or anything I did but not some system-wide funk either. And now 20 minutes after the game ends it comes back on line. It's like my NYM viewing is having the same kind of season thus far as Lindor; I'm barely on the interstate myself.
  22. No, mainly because I rarely wear hats. I know i do have a large melon for an otherwise average-ish sized guy, but I don't know what number(s) constitute medium or large or Bochy.
  23. Hey, I'm on an IGT roll ... one in a row! Between that and my now FOUR GAME WINNING STREAK in WORDLE!!!! I'm feeling hot. This weekend we get a visit from the Wheredidthiscomefrom? 9-4 KC Royals Yes, somehow the team that lost 106 games last year carries a 72-33 RS/RA ratio into the series as they sit only behind the 9-3 Guardians and 10-3 Yanx in the race for the AL 'Kings of April' crown. And did you know their manager is named Mike Quatraro? Yeah, neither did I. How are they doing it? Well, let's see: - Now in his 3rd season [ROY 4th, MVP 7th] Bobby Witt Jr. is for real [.358/.414/.755//1169] - Salvador Perez is apparently still good [OPS+ = 142] and still just 34 y/o (I would have guessed 57) - six of their starting nine bats are 27 y/o or under - their starting five all have ERAs sub-3.10 - and as opposed to our use of 19 arms to date, KC has used just 13 which is the same number some managers use in one game so apparently no one gets hurt there or rides the AAA shuttle. Tonight's starters: Luis Severino vs Michael Wacha (Wocka-Wocka) Wacha, the brief one-time NYM, has allowed 3 earned on a combined 5 hits/2 BBs/13 Ks over 2 starts/12 IP

  25. Just finished watching via the miracle of tape delay (without the tape). Certainly was a pleasant surprise. Even if it was a full four game series two wins would have been three more than I expected to see. Nice when you out-defense the other side and they did so decisively today. And while it's not like they've done so against a string of A-list hurlers, but 5-7 from an 0-5 start is a nice mini-run.
