  1. As Gary mentioned during today's game, the first outing for Y^2 lasted just one inning and was awful [9 batters faced, 5 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 2 K] The next three have been much better: 0 Runs (StL), 0 R (CHC), 3 R (SDP) going exactly 5 innings each time. LAD is also using him more sparingly going 9 days between starts one & 2 (due in part to the Korean series), then on the 7th day after start #2 and the 6th after #3 Friday will be one week since his last outing. Going under the hood a bit more, the skinny is that his fastball appears rather straight and is the pitch getting hit most despite the high velo. copyright pending
  2. Braves just completed a sweep of the Astros in Houston, mostly by scoring late as they are wont to do. Monday: 4 in the 9th, Tuesday: 4 in the 9th, Wednesday: 2 in the 7th then the only run in the 10th to win 5-4 They're now 12-6 although our recent stretch plus 2-of-3 wins over them have pulled us to 2.5 GB which is better than it looked when we were already 3 GB on the 4th day of the season. But the bigger story here may be the Astros as the seven-time-in-a-row-ALCS participants (and 4-time winner) have stumbled to a 6-14 record [89 RS / 110 RA]. Alex Bregman is sitting with a .300 OBA while 1B Jose Abreu sits at .082/.148/.250 On the pitching side the starters are in a mess (even w/Verlander coming back) and closer Josh Hader has a 10.00 ERA Other rough starts: Rockies 4 - 14 Marlins 4 - 15 (lost earlier today) ChiSox 2 - 14! Hell, even the [CROSSOUT]PHI/KC[/CROSSOUT]/OAK/SAC?/LV? A's are 7 - 11 which is about six wins ahead of where many predicted
  3. That's 8 wins in the last 10 in case y'all have lost track.
  4. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: I haven't even considered what the Mets might be like if Bader turns out to be good. I think he'll be what he's been so far: intermittently good
  5. =Centerfield post_id=152268 time=1713379934 user_id=65] BIFL Carlos.
  6. I kept wanting to refer to Pitt starter Bailey Falter as Basil Fawlty And now I'm wondering if reliever Hunter Stratton was intentionally named after two northeast ski resorts. The wagons coming for me is just a matter of time.
  7. And while you understand the reasoning behind pulling him [Jones], sometimes common sense takes a holiday in these decisions.
  8. Reid Garrett, NYM Wins leader
  9. Bloops and Balks, aka: a NYM rally! All we need is a bases-loaded BB and the BINGO card will be filled.
  10. =ashie62 post_id=152175 time=1713314016 user_id=90] The pulling of Jared Jones could be the best thing that could happen to the Mets tonight
  11. Where were you throwing, why did you slow? What were you thinking Connor Wy Joe? His real middle name is Kok-Wy but I shortened it to make the verse scan better
  12. Chapman certainly has some legit beef on a couple of B/S calls. But he also has himself to blame: too many pitches, inattentive to runners, walks, and then coughing it up when the chips were all on the table.
  13. I still think Bader slid too early. This seems to be a trend I've noticed lately. You should be accelerating into the base on your slide ... or at least not decelerating so early.
  14. Yeah, that's pretty much why I posted it as a quiz. Several on that list wouldn't have been early guesses by me.
  15. The pop-up parade with runners on continues. And everyone has been a contributor.
  16. Major League ballplayers named for major league ballplayers: O'Neil Cruz (Paul) Jeter Downs (Derek) Mickey Mantle (Cochrane) Willie Mays Aiken (duh!) Ryne Sandberg (Duren) Robinson Cano (Jackie)
  17. See ESPN, you CAN conduct an interview during a game while still showing the game itself!! And these are important discussions as opposed to shrinking the game to 1/4 screen or even flat-out ignoring it for frivolous and self-serving nonsense.
  18. Sterling (mostly successfully) kept his age secret for years, not an easy thing for a public figure to do in this day and age. But he was doing sports radio in the early 1970s so he pretty much had to be 80+. He'll turn 86 on July 4 born: John Sloss
  19. 'tis indeed Max Muncy, not to be confused with baseball writer Max Mercy. #1 Eric Karros - 270 #2 Ron Cey - 228 #3 Steve Garvey - 211 #4 Matt Kemp - 203 #5 Max Muncy - 179 #6 Mike Piazza - 177 The graphic of that list came up on SNB last night (LAD/SDP) which I had on but was only half-watching and with the sound off. So I suspect a discussion about Muncy was the reason for the list, only seven years in LA and already up amongst their all-timers. With typical years for him this season and next he could be above all but Karros. People tend to think of Piazza more than Karros but EK was there longer, and Cey's name seems to get forgotten as Garvey stays on peeps' minds as the fact of that franchise/era.
  20. Not Think more modern
  21. "Health concerns" are prompting his full retirement rather than just a further schedule reduction. Official announcement expected at a press conference this Friday. https://nypost.com/2024/04/15/sports/yankees-john-sterling-expected-to-retire-this-week-due-to-health-concerns/https://nypost.com/2024/04/15/sports/yankees-john-sterling-expected-to-retire-this-week-due-to-health-concerns/
  22. Nope, but you're on the right path.
  23. Hint: alliterative initials
  24. #1 Eric Karros - 270 #2 Ron Cey - 228 #3 Steve Garvey - 211 #4 Matt Kemp - 203 #5 _________ #6 Mike Piazza - 177 Everyone else guessed is Not mystery man #5
