  1. Just so I'm sure I have this straight ... we're getting 1-hit heading into the 5th inning by some 30 y/o journeyman pitcher just up from the minors who's winless with nearly a 6.00 ERA?The only thing I can figure this Ryan Glynn guy leads the league in is the pct. of Ys and Ns in his name.
  2. Brain Daubach ... walking machine.
  3. ]What makes you feel that's strange? Because he's thin, single, and neat.I liked a description (back to his pitching prowess for a moment) that was in an SI article a few years back. In talking about his physical gifts for pitching - he was a well-built 6' 2" or so but not overly huge - it described him as having 'huge hands to impart the spin for his curveball, long arms for leverage, and the wide back of a prize-fighter'
  4. Check out his years from about '62-''66.He didn't have a real long career but for a five-year span he may have been the best there ever was.
  5. Yes, going home was the wrong move (he stopped, then started again as the relay was bobbled) but at least when he reached the catcher he tried to knock him over instead of hitting him w/his purse.
  6. Finely batting w/the sacks drunk -- STRIKE 31 out; Benji Molina up -- Fly to CF, too shallow to tag2 outs; Dallas McPherson as the last gasp -- STRIKE 3 MOTHERFUCKINSUMBITCH!!!!
  7. And they're in the 9th in Anaheim/LA/Orange County - still 1-Zip Nat'lsDrese out after 8 IPs, 2 hits, 3 BBs of shutout ball.Cordero their closer inErstad - 1BVlad - BBAnderson - 1B (bags loaded)
  8. ]What's the horrible tent like structure in CF?, maybe George's officeMore likely some restaurant/lux suites area.
  9. Also, Phils' Randy Wolf [u:49aa28f9ca]will have[/u:49aa28f9ca] elbow/ligament surgery.
  10. Texas beats Atlanta (Braves starting 6 rookies due to injuries, etc) 9-5 as they smack around young Kyle Davis (who smacked us around).Boston beats Cincy, Bal'mer tops Houston... which is good because: Jason Giambi became a TRUE YANKEE tonight (may not be again tomorrow, stay tuned for further developments). The Pirates actually got rooked on this one; Yanx down by one in the 9th, Sheff smacks one towards the middle w/1out-1 on. Ball ricochets off Joe Table's leg over to Jack Wilson at SS, he flips to 2nd who relays it to 1st just in time to nip Sheff and end the game ... except that he was called safe. Given another chance, A-Rod singled then Posada doubled to tie it up (A-Rod thrown out at plate trying to win it ... and he actually tried to ram the catcher instead of slapping him). Giambi then HR'd in the 10th.Nationals up 1-0 in the 7th w/Angels. Bartolo Colon hooked up in a duel with the recently acquired Ryan Drese who's tossing a 1-hitter for Washington.Phils down 3-1 in the 6th in Seattle
  11. Hits w/RiSP held hostage - game 65
  12. The Dodgers had him throwing earlier this year before his bum knee had fully healed and he was clearly favoring it as he threw. Impossible to say whether that contributed to his elbow problems but that had to be one of the dumber moves of the decade in either case.
  13. Also, Eric Gagne to the DL (elbow).15 days for right now, but it's almost sure to be longer and that's only if there's no surgury required. If it is ... see ya in '07.
  14. I just remembered one other thing I don't want in the new stad ... a situation where there are numerous disputed HR calls because you're not sure whether the ball crossed "over the yellow line" or met some other such idiotic condition. Make it have fences where either it's a fargin HR or it's not. I don't want any conferences of umps flipping coins. Not only is that Miller Park roof ugly - but it doesn't work either. It leaks, plus the mechanism is screwed up to the point where it takes so long to open/close that they have to make the call before the game starts.
  15. Actually, I thought he was one of the few who wasn't.At this point, I think all that are going to be re-hired have been and big Eric wasn't one of them. After his ill-fated resignation, Greeg went home (Philly) and slowly went broke, eventually sueing MLB for damages claiming (among other things) that he was too heavy to find other work.He lost weight at various times in his umpiring career but always seemed to slip back. That picture is not him at his heaviest by far.
  16. I finally figured out who Bobby Kielty looks like -- it's a grown-up version of the bully kid who picks on Ralphie in that Christmas in Indiana movie (blanking on the title).
  17. MFYs are going to release the plans for their new crib tomorrow (Wed) - also due to open in '09.
  18. Do you think we'll even have a good AT-BAT before the game's over??
  19. The answer to the AFLAC trivia question (Who pitched in all 7 '73 WS games) is Daryl KnowlesIf pitching today, Knowles would retire the current Mets in order.
  20. Hey Rockin' Doc, Since I did the Yanks the last time around and you're not going to be around that weekend, do you want me to grab them and you can take the Fish for early July?

  22. Which, of course, gives the 'IFSPA' ammo to claim; "hey, the trade was about to go down when the injury happened and you can't prove it wasn't ... and therefore we were right again!!"
  23. 1) No HR haven please. Keep it at least a neutral park, or even one favoring pitchers at least slightly.2) The only nod to Ebbits field was supposedly the outside architecture design -- it's not like they were intending to mimic the whole park.3) It doesn't need to be perfectly symmetrical, but some of the newer parks seemed all tricked up just so they can claim it's quirky.4) 45K seats sounds a bit small. Lots of the new parks in the smaller cities have gone this way but that's in part to create a kind of artificial demand by intentionally limiting supply. A good team here doesn't need that. It doesn't need to be 55K+ but it seems to me it should be more than 45.5) I'm not a big fan of indoor ball but if a removeable roof prevents rainouts, helps out those who have distances to travel in iffy weather, and increases the attendance in those early-April games, I think they believe it'll worth the cost. It also allows the stadium to be used for other things in the off-season.Put it in if you want - just promise to only use it if neccesary.6) It's going to have a corporate name folks. Just hope it's not one of those fugly-off-the-tongue hi-tech corporate monikers.
  24. That the team as a whole is closer to the top of batting stats on the road and lower at home isn't surprising seeing as how Shea plays as a pitchers' park more often than not.But I'd be shocked if you could find some kind of telltale "trait" indicating which players would succeed at Shea and which wouldn't to the point where it would even remotely useful as a predictive factor. "Flukes" - or just random variations if you prefer - are likely the better explanations.
