  1. "ohh the Giambino does it again"Does what again ... hit HRs in 3 consecutive games that would all be outs in 29 other parks?
  2. And if the end of the Braves game wasn't disgusting enough, the beginning of the Yanx game may have been worse ... if only for the fact that both A-Rod & Giambi both hit 320-ft Yanqui Stadium HR specials. They were both cheesy enough that the same guy sitting in the front row of the bleachers managed to drop both balls back onto the field.O's/Sox game called on account of rain after 6. O's win.
  3. Part of that Atlanta 6-run 8th - following the daily Andruw HR - was a 3-run HR from Jeff Francoeur, their latest kiddie kall-up playing in his ML debut. He was called up when Brian Jordan went on the DL. I figure if the remainder of the team goes on the DL they'll go undefeated.
  4. ]theres was 1 out not 2, if he gets thrown out trying for second allowing beltran to score without a throw in the process i'm ok with that. i'm really not even too upset about what did happen because you are trying to trade piazza for floyd's run there, they just happened to get them both which is unusual. my thing is that knowing the score and situation you just bust it out of the box for 2B there, thers no reason to hold up.The hit was a bloop to short RF, there's no way Piazza should be running non-stop toward 2nd at that point. Piazza only decided to take off for 2nd once the ball bounced away from the catcher. Floyd (although you couldn't see it) must have decided to try to score once the throw went down to 2nd. Both would have been better off not trying to advance - it would have left us w/1st & 3rd and still just 1 out.
  5. I remember virtually nothing from this flick except the fact that I thought it was embarrasingly bad.
  6. 9 - 2 - 6 - 2 RBI-1B/DP would be more like it.Bell = WPLoops = SavePiazza = 3 hits (999 as NYM) including game winnerBenson = Good startBeltran = 2 2Bs and game-winning runRest of team = eh
  7. OK, Loopy & Castro in on another double-switchCastilla - GOSchneider - FOByrd - BBW. Cordero (PH) - FOMets win!!!
  8. Still Bell????
  9. Oh Good ... oh good lord!!!!
  10. Quick-'n-Easy for BellCammy - Beltran - Floyd - Piazza - pitcher's spot, due up for top 11
  11. And he GAHT 'EM!!!!Free Baseball ! ! ! ! !
  12. Walking Cepicky wouldn't have been the worst thing in the world ... except that it was Cepicky!!!! Now Guillen (PH-ing) and the big boys will come up.Guillen = FO
  13. Bell & Woodward in for Hernandez & Anderson (double switch).Lead-off single - Sac bunt2 shots to win it for the Gants
  14. Florida comes out of the delay and drops a 6-spot on the Beermakers.9-3 Fish in the 5thDodgers jump on the Rox early and often, lead 5-0 after 3Lowe & Kennedy hurling.
  15. Gnats go to their closer for the 9th: Floyd - Piazza - Anderson
  16. Rrrrrrroberto in to face 3-4-5
  17. "I don't understand how mets fans can hate the yankees more than the braves"Because I don't have to live everyday w/Brave arrogance (if it even exists). And because their owner isn't an egotistical asshole (well, Turner was exactly that at times - but it was outside of baseball).I want to beat them, their constant efficiency often frustrates me, but I've never wanted to see them humiliated and ground into the dirt. In fact, I've usually liked the way they've played. 6-0 final btw. -- Ramirez all the way on a 3-hitter
  18. Both ptichers replaced to start the 8th:Offerman PH-ing (for Benson) against Hector Corrasco (or Rookie Caroca - I get them mixed up)Offerman = K
  19. Braves & Cubs playing 2 today due to yesterday's rainout. It was supposed to be Smoltz v Prior last night, but today Atlanta is holding Smoltz out for the night game and throwing Horacio Ramirez first. So naturally the Braves kicked the shit out of Prior while Ramirez is tossing a 2-hitter thru 7.6-0 AtlantaMarlins lead Brewers 5-3 in the 5th and are threatening for more - although it now appears to be raining.Santos vs Moehler
  20. Top 1:Reyes - BB, SBCameron - Sac BuntBeltran - RBI GOFloyd - 1BPiazza - K1 - 0 Good guys
  21. Says that his start on Sunday won't allow him to be of any use to the NL squad on Tuesday and has informed LaRussa that he should find a replacement.Translation: He wants the days off
  22. "Eventually, Cameron has to realize blue is giving the inside corner and swing at that pitch"Cammy's the ultimate guess hitter - as opposed to a see-and-react type - which serves as both his strength and weakness. It's what allows him to crush curve balls like he did in the 1st, but also look bad when he gets what he's not looking for. An awful lot of his Ks tend to be of the looking variety."Was Wright waving Anderson to third or Castro to second? Either way I think it was bad advice...I suspect he never saw how close Livan was to the ball."Anderson to 3rd I think. Problem was that Castro saw it and took off for 2nd before realizing that Marlon wasn't taking the advice. Youthful exuberence on yong David's part."Bases loaded, one run game, bobble by Anderson who then throws to stone-hands Offerman. I think it's safe to say there is no such thing as a "routine" ground ball when those two are involved."I think Offerman's getting a bad rap here for his one bumble the other day. Yeah, he was a high-error SS back when he was a regular but now - like Woodward - he's bringing middle-infield skills to a corner position. It's not like I want to see either there everyday (over even semi-regularly) because they're also bringing middle-infield bats to a corner spot, but he shouldn't make y'all nervous w/the glove. Marlon's arm scares me more.
  23. If an All-Star game falls in the forest and Derek Jeter isn't there to save it, will it still register a TV rating?
  24. What are you reading right NOW?!?!Why this thread of course!Although when I'm not reading the CPF, I'm working on:Lance Armstrong's War -- Daniel CoyleTrying to be topical here with 'Le Tour' going on.I've never read either of the books that Lance wrote (or, more accurately, had ghost-written). I have a kind of knee-jerk aversion to auto-biographies to start with, and sports auto's in particular. I guess I'm too leery of them being so one-sided and uninteresting that I rarely bother.I read almost none of the plethora of '86 Mets books for instance. But this one is a journalistic look at Lance's attempt for TdF #6 ('04) and a brief view of bicycle racing in general and at one of the most amazing athletic stories (and life stories) of our time in particular.Pretty good so far. I haven't reached the part about the race yet. The front part of the book deals with the preparation and back stories that go into training for a race and on the types who go into bike racing in the first place (these racers, they're a strange lot).Combine a huge star who can be a tough boss to the "team" that surrounds him, then throw in a controversial medical "advisor", a rock-star girlfriend, some kooky yet determined opponents, a relentless and skeptical press -- and put it all together during an attempt to set an all-time record in a ridiculously demanding sport and you've got yourself an interesting story.
  25. And we shall beat Livanand it shall be a good winIf you DC visitors think the treatment of the Nats is sickly sweet and a bit overboard, you should see/hear the what the Redskins get. This is really cool: I'm listening to the WFAN recap show while watching BB2N (w/the sound down) and the replay of Gary's call on the Castro 2-RBI single and espn's video of the same play were not only on at the same time but were exactly synched up!OK, so it was only kinda cool ... (must get life)
