  1. Not that I want to discourage form filling-out ... but it's not like they're unaware that customers are going to want that channel added to their cable package, it's just whether they can add it at a decent (for them) price. Until then, "We have no information" is merely corporate-speak for "we haven't struck a deal yet and have no idea when/if we will"
  2. Pedro's marriage was hardly a secret.
  3. Well sure, Nolan wasn't a Met all that long. It's not like we're gonna give him points for what he did as a Cal Angel, or a Ranger or an Astro.

    2005?

It was being ignored in this forum so we moved it to the main forum and it's currently being ignored there. Look around Page 3 or so.
  5. ="Nymr83"]Pedro isn't the brightest of ballplayers (as evidenced by his pitching exhibition games in the WBC when he is still hurting) This attitude is silly. If there were no such thing as the WBC Pedro would be throwing (more or less) the same amount of pitches at roughly the same time of year ... just in Florida against ST Braves & Nationals et al instead of wherever against Venz & maybe the U.S. With pitch limits, 30-man rosters, and a max total of 8 games (and even that's only for the teams that get to the finals) a starter like Pedro will likely pitch (at most) parts of 3 games spread out over 3 weeks. And with Manny Acta as his manager it's not like there's any danger of someone gonna go to the whip over him anyway. The nay-sayers for this tourney are acting as if the players ** Oh God, they might get hurt!!!!" ** would be sunning themselves on the beach otherwise and have already set-up the scenario to blame the WBC for every injury that occurs. Trachsel & Benson, you may recall, each got hurt last Spring w/o ever leaving the Sunshine State. If Pedro's toe isn't ready he won't play - but if that occurs I'd treat it as a bad thing not a good. It means that he'd also likely be behind for ST (and maybe the reg season) if that's the case. As of a day or two ago, Omar was quoted as saying that Pedro in the tourney is still about 50/50 at this point.
  6. Phils -----> Jason Michaels ----> seriously, I just used a racist word when I really meant "Guardians" seriously, I just used a racist word when I really meant "Guardians" -----> Arthur Rhodes -----> Phils
  7. He pitched in college.
  8. Now all you have to do is figure out how to hologram bronze and your idea is in business.
  9. I want to see an exchange where Cliff shoots back a few Qs along the lines of; "OK, so which of youse mutha-fuckas were the ones cursing me out from the bleachers 2 years back?"
  10. I wonder if they'll have another one of these where they allow people over the age of 10 to ask questions?
  11. ]A-Rod sticks to his story about adoring Keith Hernandez At least he does whenever he wasn't trying to sell his story about growing up a Braves fan and adoring Dale Murphy. It was the origin of the #3 don't you know. I suppose it all depends on who he's trying to finagle a contract out of at that particular moment.
  12. To do what ... pinch hit occasionally and DH 9 times a year? 3 catchers are rarely a good idea and 3 who all prolly think they should be starting 5 days a week is even worse. Plus only LoDuca can really play eslewhere (1st) and it's not like we're looking for ways to sit Delgado down more often.
  13. Piazza's agent contacting the NYY is still a long ways from "close to signing with them" -- particularly when backed with an article that starts out with the sentence; "Yankees probably will pass on Mike Piazza"
  14. Keep in mind also that Piazza never really was an option here unless he were to agree to a cut-rate deal for part-time action before all these other permutations played themselves out! The arbi-cutoff date forced that decision to be made early and, at that point, MP certainly wasn't going to give away all his other options to wind up with a deal (assuming the NYM actually offered him something) which is only now probably not looking so bad to him. It was mentioned in another thread that the Mets likely did with Piazza the same as they did with Leiter; offer them deals they would likely refuse: Yes, and it was the proper move in both cases. I didn't love the LoDuca deal, but it was better option than agreeing to 4/$32 for Molina IMO and playing the waiting game turned out to be a much worse decision for Molina than it did for Omar.
  15. Big Hurt to Oakland acc. to espn
  16. ]Does that mean we have to edit copied posts? Well, you don't HAVE to do anything ... the only rule around here as far as I'm concerned is liberal use of common sense. It's just that when something is simply cut-n-pasted with little or no context and scant attribution it takes away from the discussion at least as much as it adds to it, particularly when the passage is only semi-legible to begin with.
  17. So you got into a discussion of fan message boards and don't once bring up the CPF?!?!!?
  18. Well depends on which generalizations he's referring to; - the ones like this one where Met fans are mocked as relentlessly positive Kool-Aid drinkers - or the ones (like from 4 days ago) where they're described as being conditioned towards negativity and given to "ignorant bashing" Depends on the agenda du jour I suppose.
  19. As I recall, Darryl's "faith" involved pouting back in the clubhouse because he had been double-switched out of the game a few innings earlier.
  20. ]This is not how I remember it That was specifically how I remember it -- about Russo in particular --although either of our memories could be less than accurate at this point. And I don't really bring this up just to go M&MD bashing; more like me using the subject to point out an example about how when peeps start off w/a pre-conceived notion (Pedro hates Mike) it's easy to take the conclusion which existed in their head to begin with and declare it a fact based on scant evidence (in this case on only 3 or 4 starts). I do remember one or both of them recanting after the "fact" turned out to be not so factual.
  21. The Maddox/anti-Lopez thing (was it professional or a personal feud? ... man I'd like to hear the details of that one some day) was particularly costly because the gap between what Javy was hitting and the usual backup (whoever it was at the time) was pretty large in those days. Plus, they extended it into the playoffs and Cox usually carried a 3rd catcher in October because of the whole arrangement which weakened their bench considerably. The Posada vs Flaherty/Stinnett difference is big too but if you're going to sit an aging catcher like Posada approx every 5 days anyway there's some argument to be made that pairing the backup with the same guy each go 'round makes some sort of sense particularly if they seem to work well together. You do hate to have the prima donna pitcher dictate stuff like that though and the main guy should still be in there occasionally just so they're not strangers when they really do have to work together. All of which reminds me of last season when Castro was catching Pedro more often than not in the early going, and how M&MD picked up on that almost immediately and (with a nod to long-ago supposed bad feelings between MP and Pedro's brother Ramon) declared by about the 3rd time around the rotation that "it's obvious Pedro has gone to mgmt and told them he wants no part of Piazza". That declaration turned out to be ridiculously premature (and wrong) since the two were matched up plenty of times throughout the year.
  22. Wow! Whoda thunk it?
  23. I think the "impatient" label applies better to the Cameron deal but less so to the others. The Benson trade in particular was months in the making and apprently went back and forth over the inclusion of a prospect. In the Benson & Seo cases, I think Omar believes: - that Julio's "power arm" means he's going to be better than his recent record shows - that the 'odd men out' were those two to remain in the rotation: most likely Heilman and Zambrano; will do at least as good a job and for considerably less money - that there's sufficient backup even beyond the new back-end guys (Maine, Bannister, Soler, Iriki) so that the rotation won't be in danger - and that the imported bullpen guys (Julio, Bradford, Sanchez) are better bets and were neccessary over the in-house wannabes: Ring, Bell, Fortunato, etc. Time will tell how all these bets turn out.
  24. To you and I they are, yes. To Piazza they have another name: P-O-T-E-N-T-I-A-L E-M-P-L-O-Y-E-R The irony of this whole thing, is that this looks like it's coming down Piazza winding up taking (wherever he takes it) the backup/part-time role for short money that he initially rejected to become a FA in the first place.
  25. metirish wrote: I wonder what impact if any this will have on the 25 Mets games WB11 was going to air.. New TV Network Almost certainly none; the Met games are just an arrangement between the new network and the local ch 11 affiliate. Since that station was already connected with WB having a new corporate father isn't going to change this arrangement. btw, they've officially targeted March 16 as the launch date which'll include the Met ST game that night. What remains to be seen is how many systems will be cleared by that point. Even some of those who do clear it won't likely do so until closer to opening day - and some of the carriers ...
