  4. Note to self: Learn how to [u:26aab88b76]wach[/u:26aab88b76] while I'm waiting and anticipating
  5. Sanders not only soaked McCarver once, but kept leaving and re-loading to drench him a second and third (and maybe even fourth) time - attempting to get him back for the critisism while hiding behind the curtain of "just celebrating". McCarver eventually started to go after Deion although kind of admitted later that he didn't know what he was going to do if/when he found him. "I know what I would have done about it 20 years ago" said the then 50-some y/o announcer.
  6. Delgado extends his league lead in fist pumps on that DP
  7. In the meantime, you didn't give one to Jeremi Gonzalez, who actually did pitch briefly this season. Tell him it's in Adams' mailbox.
  8. I have no memory of Mike Adams

That a reasonably disciplined hitter like Jeter did go for an outside pitch there on a 3-0 count late in the game at least lends some credence to the theory that he was thinking about the hit streak there (self) more than the game situation (team).
  10. http://www.irisharts.org/Images/Seaver.jpgWe need one of our 4-in-the-bottom-of-first specials. Haven't had one of those in a while. Bury 'em early ... then slowly pull away.
  11. cooby wrote: It's personal stats that add up to team success To a point, yes; but the article is specifically about one instance where maybe it wasn't. And again, the main focus is not that this makes Jeter a rotten person, but rather about those who won't question his actions (even those who were just talking about that very topic as it happened) because it flies in the face of the established (and some might say carefully crafted) image.
  12. It's not like the actions of one pitch constitutes a big deal, but it does show what happens when these unremovable labels get attached. No one questioned Jeter there because doing so would bump up against the pre-written story about what he is -- or, at least, what his legend says he is. Jeter's one of those who has the Michael Jordan/Tiger Woods act down pat where they never avoid the press but rarely say anything even remotely off script when doing so. I mean it wouldn't or shouldn't shock anyone if he were to say that, yeah the batting title, the hitting streak, and the MVP race were important to him. But the fact that he repeats the standard lines over and over again all puts a George Washington/cherry tree style spin on the whole deal and makes it sound about as convincing. That the press continues to lap it all up is more their fault than his.
  13. Willets Point even has residents. Actually, one to be precise
  14. He's got a big butt and I can not lie
  15. Pittsburgh "young pitching" has seemed to be about a year away for about 5 years now.

TEAMRECORDPCTGBLast 10TIGERS89 - 60.597---4 - 6TWINS88 - 61.59118 - 2CHISOX84 - 65.56454 - 6 The Tiggers & Twinkies both coming off 2 of 3 weekends (Orioles & Indians) while the Chiox were getting swept by the A's as ex-Sock Frank Thomas went all vengeful on their butts. Tiggers and Sox hook up for 3 starting tonight on Chicago's south side. Detroit can pretty much bury the defending champs but have only won 8 of their last 23 and may need the WC to hang on as their huge early lead is virtually gone. Twins go to Fenway and then Camden Yards this week.
  17. Yeah, but they delayed the inevitable clinching (would have happened if the MFYs swept) and ended Jeter-boy's hitting streak.
  18. It's a bit of both. THe AL's kicking of the NL's butts raised the collective record of the AL as a whole while depressing the entire senior circuit. But since interleague ended (and the league records remain constant) the lower teams in the NL have been more competitive than the bottom-feeders in the AL which creates a log-jam towards the .500-range in the NL. None of those WC contenders is breaking away from the pack because they're essentially beating the heck out of each other and even taking it on the chin from the Pittsburghs ov the world. Bottom line: the AL has more good as well as bad teams. In the NL, only the Mets (this weekend aside) have left the others in the dust.
  19. Anyone see the Marlins blow their game today? The shoddy defense they showed against us the other night was nothing compared to this afternoon in Atlanta. First they take a 7-3 lead in the top of the 10th Then, in the bottom of the inning: - Willingham mis-plays a ball in LF - Abercrombie partially mis-plays a deep drive in CF for a 2B - then a hit falls in because Abercrombie gets a bad break on a bloop into shallow CF - then a possible DP/sure 1 out shot to 2nd gets muffed by Ramirez at SS and they get no one out (at this point there are 3 Atlanta runs in, one out, and runners on 1st & 2nd) - then a legit single into LF which should result in a possible play on the tying run at the plate ... which Willingham over-runs and the ball rolls behind him allowing both the tying AND winning runs to score. I think only 1 error was charged but they had a shot at at least 5 outs and turned only 1. They've now lost 4 of their last 5, at least 2 of which were winnable with better late-inning defense ... and that's the difference between 4 games out of the WC and 2 "Our worst loss of the year", said Joe Girardi
  20. Well there's a new leader in the WC race ... mainly because there's a new leader in the NLWest. The Pads have taken 2 of the first 3 from the Dodgers (1 game left) and have a half-game lead in the division. The WC standings as of Sunday night: . 23. This avoids the possible suckitude situation of Mets clinching via a Philly loss and then going out and losing tonight. The players would deserve to have a celebration after their own game tonight no matter what happens, but it would suck to do so after dropping two straight. A Philly loss/Met win wouldn't be as good as clinching it on their own - but it's a lot better than a loss/loss deal, even though they're far enough ahead that none of these situations deserves to have the "they backed in" charges start to be thrown around.
  24. You folks are neglecting to mention that Cole Hamels has a no-hitter going thru 6 Now 4-0 Phils, top 7
