  2. Wagner makes like a racist -- K K K
  3. Helms = K Barajas up
  4. Castro & Gotay both go warning track ... but have nothing to show for it. Wagner in to face 7 - 8 - 9 ... and it seems to me that Manual has already run through most of his bench. * Lenny, Lenny, Lenny !!!
  5. We just gotta jump on Joe Table here.
  6. Bourne's speed shows its supremacy. And, right about now, Feliciano should be being read the Bourne Ultimatum.
  7. OK, he gets Utley. Howard's going to be the last batter Pedro sees one way or the other. The pitcher's slot is up after that and Burrell is on the bench. Gotta bring Smith in for him.
  8. Feliciano in on the double switch (Gomez in for Green) and promptly decides to walk the light hitting lefty in front of the big boys.
  9. I have no clue who any of these Philly pen guys are. Meanwhile, our pen was the main pack o' culprits during the 3-game sweep they had at our place last time. We need more runs.
  10. Aaaah, he was just toying with them.
  11. Ducky walks two with two outs making for the first tightrope walking spot of the day for him. Rowland up, two on, two out.
  12. Willets Point wrote: It's not about giving up. It's about making the team stronger now and in the future as opposed to *maybe* backing into the playoffs this season and then wallowing for the next 5-10 seasons behind vastly improved Braves, Phillies and Marlins teams. Overhauling a team that is currently in first place and has been so for virtually every day for the last year and a half is a perfectly stupid thing to do based on nothing more than an arbitrary age cutoff. Especially so when a good chunk of the supposed senior citizens are contributing quite nicely at the moment (Glavine, Wagner, Hernandez, Valentin), could very well do so before the year is out (Alou, Martinez, Delgado), and ALL have contracts running out either at the end of this year or next.
  13. Not true Paul, we think you're a hot-head too.
  14. Biggio -- YES - 3,002 hits (and counting) 27th player to get there - .286/.365/.435 lifetime - 658 doubles (6th all time) - 286 HRs - 413 SBs (77% successful) - 283 HBPs (most all time) - 1,821 runs scored (14th) - 999 Extra Base Hits (27th) Plus played 3 defensively important positions (C, 2B, CF) while winning 4 gold gloves. Frank Thomas - Yes ... although I'm a little less sold on him, partly because he gets virtually no brownie points for the non-hitting parts of his game. And also due to the back half of his career has been so pedestrian and injury-filled compared to the outrageous stats of the first half. - .303/.423/.562 - That OBA is 16th highest all-time, which becomes top-10 when you eliminate pre-1900 players or shorter careers. Also 3rd best for a RH batter. SLG is 18th best. OPS = 11th - 500 HRs (21st to get there) - 1,617 RBIs (26th) - 979 Extra Base Hits - 1,596 BBs (12th) vs 1,294 Ks
  15. That was the old way of doing things (wiping out runs in a non-completed inning). I remember the Yanx losing a game like that to the Oreos a whole buncha years ago. After a deluge that delayed the game for a long while, it stopped raining but the umps were inspecting the field to see if it were playable. So Earl Weaver is following the umps around the field making sure to not only step in every puddle he could find but to really STOMP in them so as to create the biggest splash possible. He eventually got his way and the NYY top-inning runs were wiped out handing Balmer the win. Last night some of the Os players looked pissed. The game had already been stopped once, then restarted. It was during the restart that the Yanx took the lead and it was re-stopped right after Jeter's RBI single (he's so clutch) put them ahead. I'm not sure if they were mad that they stopped it too early or too late, but it was bad timing for them either way.
  16. Biggio 3K 'Stros came home, he got in the lineup, and promptly got 3 knocks. Good job for a nice Long Island boy.
  17. The rainout pushes everyone back one slot, so Friday's DH will see El Duque in the day game and Maine at night. And I guess that keeps the rotation intact until early next week without any immediate call-ups. Saturday = Sosa (last pitched Monday) Sunday = Perez (Tuesday) Monday = Glavine (Wed) Then Tuesday in Colorado looks like the first problem since it would be Ducky with only 3 days off. No days off thru the AS break.
  18. Surprisingly quick call for a last scheduled game between two teams. Tonight's radar doesn't look any worse than last night's. Maybe they were thinking about tomorrow's DH and the rotation.
  19. We're getting rain-delayed again. CARDINALS: Schumaker - CF Miles - SS Encarnacion - RF Duncan - 1B Rolen - 3B Ludwik - LF Molina - C (Grrrrrr) Kennedy - 2B Wainwright - P (Grrrrr) =blue]METS: Reyes - SS LoDuca - C Beltran - CF Wright - 3B Delgado - 1B Green - RF Gomez - 2B Gotay - 2B Hernandez - P
  20. #500 for Frank Thomas this afternoon (Jays lost anyway) Houston is sitting Biggio while he's on the road so his 3,000th hit will come at home (needs 3) Cox tied the ejection record last week but needs one more to have it all to hisself
  21. Klapisch was a pitcher in college (Columbia) around the same time that Darling was at Yale. He also has played in his post-college days (and still does I believe) in adult baseball leagues. All of which means that he'd be a much better pitcher than the usual sportswriter or fan off the street type, but that also puts him a long way from being a pro. Keith & Ron were talking about how he, back in their day, was constantly asking to face anyone who was willing. Keith's attitude was always; go away and stop bothering me. He then went on to claim that the only one who took him up on it was Dykstra who, in Keith's words, "wore him out!"
  22. Glavine - 5.0 Wright - 3.0 LoDuca - 1.0 Gomez - 1.0
  23. I wanted to go specifically with a Left, Center, and Right fielder. Not everyone did that and the voting process certainly doesn't require it, but I like to think of how I'd want a real All-Star OF to look and, while you can make an argument for each of them individually, a trio like Dunn, Carlos Lee, and Soriano would be one brutal OF.
  24. C - Russell Martin 1B - Prince Fielder 2B - Chase Utley SS - Jose Reyes 3B - Miguel Cabrera LF - Matt Holliday CF - Aaron Rowland RF - Ken Griffey C - Jorge Posada 1B - Kevin Youkilis 2B - Brian Roberts SS - Carlos Guillen 3B - Alex Rodriguez LF - Manny Ramirez CF - Torii Hunter RF - Magglio Ordonez
  25. GAME CALLED ... WE WIN !!!!
