  1. Beltran going deep from each side of the plate Saturday became the first MLer to do so since ... well, since Beltran himself not quite a year ago. It also adds to an odd Met record in that they now have had 17 such "switch" HRs in their history, more than any other NL team. Obviously part of why that's surprising is that they're younger than most NL squads. But the really weird part is that they had none for nearly 20 years - until Mazzilli did it in 1979 - and were in their 30th season before getting their second: HoJo in 1991. Since 1993 there's been a deluge which has included: Hundley (5 times), Bonilla (4), Beltran (2), Reyes (2), plus Tony Clark & Carl Everett once each.
  2. I don't think the #2 hitter has anything to do with it. I mentioned a while back that Reyes simply hasn't been driving the ball as consistantly since around the 1st of May compared to April and the 2nd half of last season.
  3. Delgado made what he was making in 2005 because that's the way the Marlins structured the contract; very low in the first year then way backloaded in the remaining three. But claiming that the Mets could have "signed" them for the same amount of money distorts reality. If I get a Mercedes for $2 down and finance the rest I'm not going to go around bragging that I got a luxury car for less than what you paid at Starbucks. P.S. When the Marlins traded him to NY they paid a chunk of money to make it happen specifically because they had to equalize the unbalanced contract, which, of course, means that they wound up paying about triple for Delgado that year than the Mets did for Mkwicz.
  4. ]even though the Mets signed Mientkewicz for the same money as Delgado ?!?!?!? No, the Mets traded for Meintkiewicz and assumed a one-year contract that was for ~1/3 of what Delgado was making on a per/year basis over 4 yrs.
  5. Might as well update this: ABHXBHRBIBAOBASLGWright96311316.323.411.583Reyes1063559.330.405.425Delgado104231512.221.255.462Gomez672037.299.351.404Valentin591634.271.283.407LoDuca972269.227.262.351Beltran10124814.238.267.436Green661255.182.229.318
  6. Sosa - 1.5 Beltran - 3.0 Wright - 1.3 Schoeneweis - 0.8 Heilman - 0.8 Feliciano - 1.0 LoDuca - 1.6
  7. If Rowland held on to that ball it's an out - and would be even if he tumbled into the pen afterward. What's NOT a catch would be if he jumped the fence and was already in the pen [u:60a5ceabc3]before ever getting to the ball[/u:60a5ceabc3].
  8. Maybe he hurt it pulling the ball-on-a-string trick he kept doing during Saturday's game. We need to fire the ball-on-a-string coach. P.S. Any word on who was sent down or DL'd for the Pelfrey move? Gotta take care of that one before dealing with Tuesday. I assumed it would be Sosa when I first heard this last night but if he's talking about not even missing a turn ...
  9. OMG Rowland almost got that one!!
  10. Schoeneweis keeps that road ERA pristine.
  11. This Dobbs guy in at least a generation too young to have his teammates nickname him 'Trooper'
  12. TransMonk wrote: Why is Aaron Sele on this team? For the occasional blow-out game or when you need someone early in the game to go multiple innings. Not in the 6th of a 2-run game vs an LHB like Howard.
  13. Let's fire the hamstring coach.
  14. He is the fastest in terms of games played, but not by a long shot in terms of youngest. That's because he didn't really get a full time job until he was 26. He'll turn 29 just after the season ends. The guy who might be challenging some "youngest to" records is Prince Fielder. He may have 250 by the time he's Howard's age.
  15. Phinally -- Beltran goes KABOOM !! I hate when we score a buncha runs in just the first few batters then don't score at all after that. This was starting to look like one of those. And you know, for all the shit Beltran takes about balls that drop in front of him, he catches a whole bunch going back.
  16. It's like the best way to get an Oscar: 1) Do a movie 2) Announce that you're dying. Unfortunately, it's a ploy that only works once.
  17. Hey, Hoffman's saved 22 of 24, with a 2.10 ERA and a 0.83 WHiP. Including him is no charity case.
  18. A quick stab at the pitching staffs. They're gonna take more relievers than what I'm showing, but I like rewarding the starters more. AL: Danny Haren - Oak Johan Santana - Minn John Lackey - LAA Josh Beckett - Bost Justin Verlander - Det CC Sabathia - Clev D. Matsuzaka - Bost James Shields - TB F. Rodriguez - LAA JJ Putz - Sea Jonathan Papelbon - Bos NL: Brad Penny - LAD Chris Young - SD Jake Peavy - SD John Maine - Mets John Smotlz - Atl Derrick Lowe - LAD Tim Hudson - Atl Ben Sheets - Milw Billy Wagner - Mets Takashi Saito - LAD Trevor Hoffman - SD
  19. Tough week for Colorado and for their closer Brian Fuentes. Fuentes blew a save in his 4th straight outing Friday night, including the last two via walk-off HRs. His last 4 appearances add up to 2.1 IPs with 11 runs given up (9 earned) on 11 hits. Those raised his season ERA from 1.89 to 3.79
  20. Maine - 5.0 Beltran - 3.0 Easley - 2.0
  21. Just your run of the mill walk. Wouldn't be too smart if he decided to bean him with his first pitch. Kind of asking for an ejection/suspension there.
  22. Beltran's was at the warning track. I thought he had it at first.
  23. OHernandez - 3.9 Delgado - 2.4 Wright - 0.6 Reyes - 1.4 Wagner - 1.1 Castro - 0.6
  24. Milton Bradley = Padre in exchange for a minor league pitcher
